I can live with that.

Me too. Anything to make sure that the Nats don't break the '03 Tigers or (who else but?) the '62 Mets record.

Speaking of the team with the worse record in the majors (not the Mets, contrary to popular belief, though I wouldn't mind), the Post is reporting that the Nationals won't be able to sign Stephen Stratsburg by the deadline. I'm not happy about this by any means, but if he goes back into the draft, the Nats get a pick equivalent to the position he was drafted in, which is supposed to be the second overall pick. If the Nats finish with the worst record in the league(which would take a comeback of epic proportions for them not to), they'll have the first two picks in next years draft.

No Cap Nats need to sign him or they lose all credibility as a franchise

All credibility is a bit of a stretch. I can easily point to my sig to demonstrate my opinion about the current status of the team, but we're slowly turning things around and will finish with more wins than the 1962 Mets.

How does that rule work? They'd get a pick in the same draft in which he was drafted in? How could it be an equivalent pick if he was chosen with that pick? Wouldn't the compensation pick have to be in the following draft?

Sorry if I worded it wrong. Yes, the pick would be in the following draft. If the Nationals don't sign him, they'll probably have the top two picks in 2010.

If he gets drafted in 2010, wouldn't the comp. pick be in 2011 then?

So when (if) the Mets sweep the Nationals, I hope they don't see this as their road to recovery and march to the playoffs

Say what!? ^_^

The only playoffs anyone in the NL East not named the Phillies will see is what airs on television.

I'm glad it was a jinx :D

Why is everyone so convinced the Phillies are a lock for the NL East crown? Sure they're a great team, and sure they're 5.5 ahead, but it's not even August yet and both Atlanta and Florida are fighters, and match up pretty well with the Phils.

Because only the Mets would choke away a lead like that.

FAILcouer Returns!

And Atlanta fans hated to see this guy leave.

Speak for yourself, the internet portion of Braves Nation threw a parade. :P

There's been some really whacky rumors going back and forth in St. Louis.

Right now Chris Duncan has been sent down to Memphis. That's hardly news here. To most he's just an automatic out who once showed a lot of power.

But we're now being told (and this was one of the rumors that has been awkwardly being tossed around and denied, rinse and repeat), that he will be traded to the Red Sox for Julio Lugo.

We'll see...

Hey Justin, what's the rumor mill scuttlebutt with this Holliday (not Halladay) trade? Is it going down? I think he'd be a fantastic fit for our Cardinals.

Any deal would have to include prize prospect Brett Wallace, which I could deal with IF Holliday was coming over long term. If he's just gonna be a late season rental and leave when he becomes a free agent after the season, then it won't be worth it. Wallace is definately a top notch power and clutch hitter who will do some damage when he gets to the bigs. But he's not much defensively, which would definately make him attractive to an AL team like the A's. But again, unless you're getting something in return that'll be around for awhile, he's not worth giving up.

Mark Buerhle just threw a perfect game in Chicago against the Rays.

Wise made a HELL of a catch for the first out in the 9th to rob a HR. Rivals the catch that Rowand made to save Sanchez's no-hitter in San Francisco, except it saved a FRIGGIN PERFECT GAME.

A no-hitter AND a perfect game for Buerhle. And yet, the Cardinals didn't want to pay him what he wanted to come to his hometown team, which he had stated numerous times he would love to do. Glad we dodged that bullet.

Anyway, I hate the Sox, love the Rays, but I also gotta give some love to my fellow Missourian. Congrats.
