MattF
Alright so, if the Crew win 1-0, they force penalty kicks? Is that right? And otherwise they'd have to win by 2 goals to qualify since Colorado would win the tiebreaker of road goals scored, correct? Just trying to get this right IIRC, no away goals rule. So, if it finishes tied (no matter what the score of this game), it'll go to extra time, then penalties.

The lower seeded team in the Conference Semifinal hosts the first game. The winners of those four series advance to single-game Conference Championships that will determine the MLS Cup finalists. The team that scores the most goals in the home-and-home series advances to the single elimination Conference Championship. If the teams are tied after 180 minutes in the Conference Semifinal series, a 30-minute extra time period (divided into two 15-minute periods) will be played followed by kicks from the penalty mark, if necessary. The team with the higher seed between the two Conference finalists will host the Conference Championship game.In the case of ties after 90 minutes of regulation in the Eastern and Western Conference Championship games and MLS Cup, 30 minutes of extratime (divided into two 15-minute periods) is played followed by kicks from the penalty mark, if necessary, to determine the winners.-------Also, in my previous post I incorrectly labeled the Semifinals the Quaterfinals. BrySmalls
So what's more out of this world than San Jose advancing past New York in the MLS Playoffs? How about Mexico's Women's National Team, who were 0-24-1 against the US Women's National Team, are finally successful in defeating the Americans 2-1 in the CONCACAF Semifinals to qualify for the 2011 Women's World Cup!In order for the US Women's National Team to advance to the Women's World Cup, they will need to defeat Costa Rica in the CONCACAF third-place match Monday (6 p.m. ET) in Cancun -- they routed the Ticos, 4-0, in group play -- then prepare for a two-game playoff with Europe's fifth-place team, Italy. The first leg would be Nov. 20 in Italy, the return Nov. 27 at Toyota Park in Bridgeview, Ill. In 13 all-time meetings with the Italians, the United States has an 8-4-1 record. Italy won the first three meetings in the 1980s. (Source)
TFoA
Yeah I heard about that. Grant Wahl likened Mexico's win as being the 'Miracle on Ice' of Women's soccer. Good for them. Now, if only the U.S. men could beat El Tri in Mexico...(which, if the new qualifying system goes through, probably won't happen anytime soon.) MattF
The MLS Eastern Conference Final is set. San Jose vs. Colorado? Yeah...me thinks a single table might be needed. Or at least don't use the conferences for seeding.
TFoA
There will be a new champ this season, as FC Dallas just knocked off RSL. Â Â

WJMorris3
You know, since they've already said no single table, why not three conferences of six, take the top two of each conference and the next two best teams in the league, and seed by record (but allow for a conference champ to have hosting privileges against a non-conference champ regardless of seeding). Pharos04
They might have to go to three conferences next year with Portland and Vancouver joining and overloading the Western Conference. Bring back the Central Conference!!!

Just wondering.
TFoA
The new system for 2014 is this: The six-team Hex would be eliminated, & in it's place would be two groups of four, with the group winners qualifying for the World Cup. The two runners-up would then face each other in a playoff to determine CONCACAF's third spot in the World Cup. Now, unless the USMNT or El Tri just barely made it into this part of qualifying, we would probably never see a USA/Mexico match under this system, which would basically take away any chance of the US beating Mexico in Azteca since US/Mexico friendlies in Mexico are rarer than finding Boardwalk in the McDonald's Monopoly game. Yeah, they'd probably meet up in the Gold Cup, but I don't see the Gold Cup being held in Mexico (or, for that matter, anywhere outside of the US) anytime soon.So yeah, say goodbye to those US/Mexico qualifiers in Azteca. Maybe that's for the best since the US' road to qualifying may actually get tougher due to the importance of those final matches & they will be better prepared for the World Cup, but it'll suck to see that rivalry go dormant for a while. Jer15
FC Dallas knocks of RSL....yeah....MLS is pretty awesome. In all fairness FC Dallas only lost 4 games all season, granted they tied 14, but they are not a bad team at all.
