drivethru1986
Well scrap the Islander plans.Kovalchuk on the verge of resigning with the Devils.Deal is reportedly 60 Million over 7 years.Well, Jay Grossman (Kovalchuk's agent) said via Twitter that nothing will be announced tonight. I personally, am not really surprised. Contracts at the NHL level, especially those involving star players for a long-term deal are not exactly "OK we will pay you 70 million dollars for six years..sign here". There is usually lots of stuff to go over...just like any other contract. Sure there is standard stuff, but each one is quite different. Also, you have to consider the Devils cap situation. There is going to have to be some changes to the team, and these aren't going to be forth-line enforcers (very rare these days..just go with this point) heading out of town. Lou is going to need to make some tough choices that will effect the franchise for years to come. It's not some simple signing. The question is if tomorrow the news will come down that Kovalchuk has actually signed the deal. I for one, am still a tad skeptical. We will see.... ElwoodCuse
Sabres sign D Jordan Leopold to 3-yr dealW. T. F.? We lose two of our top 4 defenseman. We need a PP quarterback. Solution: Let's go get one D-man that may be a little injury prone and only scored 1 PP goal last season!...AND give him $3 Mil a year!I got nothing against Leopold, he's a good guy and a relatively solid D-man...but really, Sabres? This is the best you could do? We got over $12 mil in cap space and this is your best idea?!?!?! WTF...WTF...WTF...WTF...

charger77
Eklund is reporting that Nabokov is in the process of signing a 4 year deal in Russia. This leads me to believe that he will sign an NHL contract in the next 2-3 days. The_Admiral
I wouldn't be surprised if Nabokov goes back to Russia, actually. He's not good enough to win the real championship abroad, he's getting up there, might as well go home and be really good in an inferior league. I'm gonna miss making Vladimir Nabokov jokes during Sharks games, though. I shouted "Your mother is dead!" in my best James Mason when Byfuglien scored the overtime winner in Game 3. ♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫

FiddySicks
Nabokov to Russia for 6 years. After his performance in last season's playoffs I really hoped that he would not only be off the Sharks, but would get deported back to Russia before the start of the next season. I never thought that would actually happen though...Just proves that how I felt about the guy was right. He doesn't have what it takes to be a winner, he's too scared. The_Admiral
Nabokov's not worthless, he's just in the big blob of good-but-not-elite goaltenders. There's no appreciable difference between Nabokov and, say, Ty Conklin, Marc-Andre Fleury, Roberto Luongo, Craig Anderson, Jose Theodore, or a handful of other pretty good goalies that can reliably get you to the second round. ♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫
