Maybe the Islanders could use Brooklyn as a stopgap between the Nassau Coliseum and a new arena in Nassau or Suffolk (someone on HFtards uncharacteristically has a great proposal for a Deer Park location). I don't think Barclays, 14,000-seater that it is, is a long-term solution. However, a location that isn't Long Island isn't a very good solution either.

I blame the Nets.

It's really a whole confluence of forces that led Brooklyn and the Nets to build something less than a full-service hockey/basketball facility. I think they had to go through three redesigns to get it approved.

The Nets suck for building the arena how they did in the first place. They suck for moving, but if they're going to build a damn arena in NYC, not making it multipurpose seems ridiculous and shortsighted.

But that's RATner for you.

Could you post a link to that here? I have no idea where to look for it, and would be interested in reading the idea.

If nothing else (they'd obviously remain the New York Islanders), cleaning up the word "Islanders" with what appears to be Agency is actually a nice use of Agency.

Another concept to consider would be including Manhattan, Randall's, and Staten Islands in a bid for pan-New York acceptance. "Today, we are all Islanders. Except the Bronx."

Tattoo Lou's has been designated to become the official tattoo shop of the Islanders, the first time a professional sports franchise has ever designated an official tattoo shop.

A Tattoo Lou's tattooing and body-piercing station will be set up on the concourse at 10 Islanders games at Nassau Coliseum during the 2011-12 season.

Oy...are they THAT desperate to get people in the building? Also, do they think that'd even work? If I'm getting a tattoo, why would I get it at the Mausoleum?

Crap, I have to write a Billy Joel song parody about the Islanders now. reserve this space.

Charlie Wang asks for an Islanders rink

Wasting his millions on Yashin

All of the NIMBYs were raising a stink

They said "you'd better proceed with caution"

Oh, but real estate schemes can catch a lot of flak-ak-ak-ak-ak-ak

You oughta know by now

Who needs a lighthouse in Hempstead?

You're not even using your money.

And it seems like a waste of cash,

but that's what it's all about,

if you don't build me things,

then I'm movin' out!

Rick DiPietro is workin' the crease

when healthy, he is their goaltender

He said "we really gotta find a way to update this lease"

then went to the medical center

It's a shame we couldn't trade him out to get Halak-ak-ak-ak-ak-ak

You oughta know by now

You can't win much till your goalie's back

and then you still won't win much either.

And it seems like a waste of cash,

but that's what it's all about,

if you don't build me things,

then I'm movin' out!

And you should never trust your team to crazy Mike-ike-ike-ike-ike

You oughta know by now

You can make Uncle Sam pay for everything

"It'll do so much for the community"

And if that's something you don't like,

then I guess you're just out of luck.

Hope you liked '82,

'cause we're movin' out!

I think this can really persuade people.
