Shanahan is incredibly stupid and stubborn and it may have greatly cost the Redskins not only now, but in the future. You don't put your franchise QB in harm's way against doctor's orders, period. That should be a firing offense.

Agree 100%. Shanahan's behavior on this matter is a perfect example of why I always say that it takes a special type of idiot to be a football coach. The guy not only risked the future of the team and the player tonight, he went against the advice of the top physician in the field to do it. Genius.

CuJo, that wasn't a boatrace. It was still a two score game, and really it should have been a lot closer.

Boatrace = One team teakes the lead, keeps it the rest of the way, usually pulling away as it goes on. -- Exactly what Baltimore did today.

Do you even listen to Jim Rome (which is where the phrase was coined)?

Well, I guess that settles it. If Jim Rome says it was a "boatrace" then it was a "boatrace." B)

I've had some time to get over the Vikings loss...(OK, I had moved on by the end of the third quarter), and I've been wondering what the Vikings will do to improve over the offseason. They clearly need some help in the receiving corps and secondary, but my main point of concern is the coaching staff. It hasn't reached Norvcon 5 with these guys yet, but I feel like a bit of a change is needed to propel this team in the right direction next year. I'll be honest, I don't think that the Vikings can get 10+ wins next year as they stand now. A game plan centered around AP will only work for so long before teams start stopping him.

I think your main point of concern ought to be "can Percy Harvin stay healthy?" That offense with Harvin is completely different than the one the Packers stymied. I think the Vikes overachieved this year a bit, but I can see them flirting with the playoffs with a healthy Harvin, Rudolph as a red zone terror, an up-and-coming Jarius Wright and the Greatest Running Back of My Generation. Yes, even with Christian Steele behind center.

Percy won't be a Viking next season, so that's moot.

Cujo listens to Jim Rome. This is why you probably shouldn't listen to Cujo.

So Shanahan may have blown Griffin's knee out over this? He may never be mobile on that leg again.

Then again, people said the same thing about AP.

RGIII will undoubtedly be back under center for the Redskins someday, but will probably never be the same again. With his wreckless style of play, this sort of injury was bound to happen sooner or later.

I'm not sure how you can make the statement when you don't even know the extent of his injury. The comment is especially ridiculous when you consider the season Adrian Peterson just had coming off a very serious injury.

Lets not forgot that Griffin is responsible for his own health and had a major role in the decision for him to play. He wanted to play. Shannahan didn't force him to.

Every player is going to play. There's rarely, if ever, an NFL-caliber player that won't play hurt. It's up to trainers and coaches to fully assess whether it's worthwhile to keep trudging these guys out.

What pisses me off is that Cutler messes up knee in the '11 NFC title game and gets pulled, but because he's not in a body cast on the sideline, people decide to deem him a :censored: since the coaches/trainers didn't feel like it was worth risking the career of a franchise quarterback. "Der, he shudda gone out der and played til he was DEAD, herp!"

Screw that. If I was Washington, or ANY NFL team with a legit starting QB, I don't put him out there unless it's absolutely necessary, especially when it comes to their knees. What a powerfully stupid decision.

I'm not sure how you can make the statement when you don't even know the extent of his injury. The comment is especially ridiculous when you consider the season Adrian Peterson just had coming off a very serious injury.

Adrian Peterson is the exception, not the rule. That's why his story is so remarkable.

First, I find it hard to believe that Jim Rome was the guy that coined boatrace. I feel this is a wide term. Second, that's never what I've understood "boatrace" as. I always thought of it as another term for blowout, and I wouldn't consider Colts/Ravens as a blowout in the general sense.

The Colts should not have been in the playoffs.

The Colts won more games than 12 other AFC teams. Why exactly shouldn't they have been in the playoffs? They won 11 games. It's not like they were the 7-9 Seahawks or anything.

Actually, all four of those NFC #1 seeds that didn't reach the Super Bowl, ended up losing their first playoff game.

2007: Dallas (13-3) - lost Div. Round vs. New York

2008: New York (12-4) - lost Div. Round vs. Philadelphia

2010: Atlanta (13-3) - lost Div. Round vs. Packers

2011: Green Bay (15-1) - lost Div. Round vs. New York

Just for perspective's sake, the 2006 Bears and 2009 Saints reached the Super Bowl, and the Saints won.

And to think, no NFC #1 seed lost in the Divisional round in the first 17 years of the double-wildcard era (1990 playoff expansion), and it's happened four times since 2007. Watch out Atlanta.

Athletes will always want to play, even if they're about to die. It's the teams' responsibility to make sure the players don't jeopardize their health.

Man, the way Seattle played defense over the last three quarters of that game was phenomenal. Atlanta should be terrified.

The Redskins don't have much in the way of a receiving corps or a half-decent tight-end....certainly nowhere near what the Falcons possess. And the Redskins' QB was playing one-legged.

Wow, hope springs eternal in Atlanta, doesn't it? Let's see if they can even sell out the Georgia Dome (to Falcons fans I mean).

[/Falcon hatin']

It did strike me though as I watched Seattle yesterday that those big Seahawk corners match up well with Roddy and Julio. Should be an interesting game since Seattle's so hot and the Falcons are pretty underwhelming for as many wins as they have.
