This is a miserable start for the offense. Considering the opponent, might me the worst 1st half this year. Seriously, didn't Tampa trample these guys earlier this year? Hell even a Kirk Cousins led team was pretty good on offense last week.

9/9/2001, an OT victory for the Niners.

Jose Cortez kicked the winning FG, hahahaha. Haven't heard that name in years. I may be mixing kickers, but wasn't he one of the barefoot kickers, and wasn't he also freaking terrible as well?

Here's a full list of Falcons/Niners games.

EDIT: Well, apparently not on the first one, but I do remember that guy missing so many <30 yard field goal tries back in the day.

Hey, that's the XFL Championship Game MVP you're talking about. Show a little respect.

Was that a penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct, or for the hit? Cause that looked like shoulder to chest to me.

The referees really hate Donte (W)hitner.

Yeah they do and it's because he went to Ohio State. We all know how much the media hates Ohio State. It's why anyone who calls a Buckeyes game is so obviously rooting for the Buckeyes to lose. My God, did anyone hear how bad it was in the Big Ten title game? Or the Michigan game? The announcers couldn't have been more biased in those games. It was like they were on the Michigan and Michigan State payroll for Pete's sake. It's ridiculous how much anti-Ohio State bias there is. It's no surprise that Ohio State hate extends all the way to NFL officials. I'm sure Mark May is behind it.

No, I am not at all serious. But I guarantee there are Buckeyes fans watching this game who are having that exact conversation. B)

Jose Cortez is the WORST kicker I've ever seen. I went to a game vs Oakland where he missed four field goals and the Niners still found a way to pull out the win.

And just like that the game turns around.

The swing of emotions from 49ers fans and Cardinals fans there had to be off the charts.

Shockingly, Arizona could've controlled their own fate if Atlanta pulled that off. Now, the Bucs need to win at New Orleans for the Cards to have a chance.

Frankly, if I had my druthers, it would be the Cardinals and Niners. I would kill for the Bucs to pull a shock win on the Saints.

Oh well, for one of Arizona and New Orleans, the following will be true next week. Hell, the Bears too if the Packers win.

Wow. What an incredible way to put The Stick to rest. It couldn't have been scripted any better than that. I've had a lot of great memories there, from my first ever NFL game vs the Raiders, to seeing the Niners have the biggest come from behind win in the history of the NFC playoffs (03 vs the Giants), to tonight. The place was a dump and it was time to move on, but it sure as hell will be missed.

Yeah, like I said last night it's too bad they couldn't find a way to remain in the great city someway. Maybe they could change their name to the San Jose 49ers since they're much closer to there now. :P A lot of great memories and great players for both teams, too bad the Giants never won it all there. The 49ers went like 15 straight seasons with 10 wins, and became the gold standard among NFL franchises and won 5 rings. Hopefully they can get one more this year.

To clear up the playoff mess:

New Orleans clinches the NFC South and the #2 seed with a WIN + Carolina LOSS, or clinches a wildcard with a WIN or Arizona LOSS
The winner of PHI/DAL clinches the NFC East (Philadelphia would get #3; Dallas would get #3 with a Green Bay WIN or #4 with a Chicago WIN)
The winner of GB/CHI clinches the NFC North (Green Bay would get #4; Chicago would get #3 with a Dallas WIN or #4 with a Philadelphia WIN)
Arizona clinches the #6 seed with a WIN + New Orleans LOSS

Denver clinches the #1 seed with a WIN or New England LOSS
New England clinches a 1st-rd bye with a WIN or {Cincinnati LOSS + Indianapolis LOSS} (and with a WIN + Denver LOSS, they get the #1 seed)
Cincinnati clinches a 1st-rd bye with a WIN + New England LOSS
Indianapolis clinches a 1st-rd bye with a WIN + New England LOSS + Cincinnati LOSS
Kansas City is locked into the #5 seed
Miami clinches the #6 seed with a WIN + {Baltimore LOSS or San Diego WIN}
Baltimore clinches the #6 seed with a {WIN + {Miami LOSS or San Diego LOSS}} OR if Miami, Baltimore, San Diego and Pittsburgh ALL LOSE
San Diego clinches the #6 seed with a WIN + Miami LOSS + Baltimore LOSS
