actually I know for a fact that some of this is NOT his work, that's why he took it down.

no what i'm saying is that some of the stuff he had up there was not done by him, so he removed that stuff when the original creator contacted him. The "Buffaslug" logo was not created by him, he may have had a hand in the direction of the logo but it was not created by him, as well as some of the sketches he had on his coroflot page. He may have been in charge of the items you listed but it does not mean he designed them, look at the uniform page, it clearly has Reebok text and logos on it.

Ok, thanks for clearing that up...who designed the 2006 logo? According to the Sabres there were about 80 to choose from before that thing was given the green light to infamy. I still can't believe someone didn't chime in and list all the unwanted associations that logo could bring before it found it's way on a hockey jersey.

What "unwanted associations"? Sure, it's very ugly, but what associations did it bring?

A slug, Donald Trump's toupee... the list goes on.

Which make colorful web graphics, but are all something of a stretch.

Again, I think it's a terrible design, but I don't think those are really natural associations they should have foreseen.

I did... I didn't want to go crazy with this and blowing things out of proportion. I have several rounds of work where you can see how the "Buffaslug" took shape, so when I was given a heads up (What up, MEANS) about the original post and saw the work online, I felt the need to speak up. I spoke to Mr. Cravotta and stated how the postings of some images could be misleading, due to the fact that the re-brand was a collaborative effort, and I thank him for removing those images in such a timely manner. It's funny, I never really thought I'd be speaking on behalf of this project, especially since they've all but abandoned the mark, but since I'm on the subject, I guess I'll let it rip! I guess the thing that frustrates me the most is a lot of people on these forums have no idea of the amount of work that goes into these projects, yet fire off at the mouth (or keyboard) like they are seasoned veterans at this stuff. Seriously, I would click on some of these cats' profiles, and some of the biggest smack talkers were still working up concepts in MS Paint... GTFOOH!!! The truth of the matter is there was months of work that came from our team before this logo was decided upon. It's common for designers to work up a ton of sketches and options to please a client, but when the client has their own idea of how things should look, it's kinda out of your hands. Honestly, I'm thankful because I've grown thick skin by reading people's bashings and critiques. I don't believe I'm a bad designer, despite people calling for me (or should I say, "the designer") to be castrated, among other things... by the way, does anyone remember www.fixthelogo.com, an online petition to have the Sabres logo scrapped immediately after the unveiling? I sure as hell do! That sucked, because I was a young designer just trying to do my job and service a client, and happy for the opportunity to be able to accomplish a childhood dream. In the end, I've learned to chalk it up as a learning experience and move on. I am happy to report that since that catastrophe, I've worked on other sports identities and luckily, response has been rather positive. I won't go into detail on that stuff, but I just figured I'd clear the air on that... Drama's squashed... It's all good!

To be honest, the first sketch is the best of the bunch. I also think the final product would have looked better if the buffalo wasn't rotated at an extreme angle. That kind of made the logo look a bit imbalanced/"off" to me.

That's cool... To each, their own. As a matter fact, a good friend of mine worked that up too!

This whole process will not reflect on your talents as a designer but rather the RBK and the Sabres orgainization's 'deciders' to use the logo was a complete disregard for the team's already iconic logo, tradition, and tribal loyalty of the fans. They did it before in 1996 when they switched to the red and black identity. Then they did it again in 2006 when the team promised a vague return to the 'blue and gold' and mistakenly chose a logo that does not reflect anything mentioned ubove and I believe RBK is just as much to blame for that as well with its whole form fitting Edge Uniform System agenda. You likely are not a WNY native, and not likely sensitive to that and were working very hard trying to satisfy your client's vision and cannot blamed for that end result. Certainly your early drafts of the 2006 logo were very nice and if you also did the work on the 40th anniversary jersey since, that was also an excellent job.

Thanks for speaking on this, Das... BTW, got your email, and I'd like to chat with you sometime!

I just think it's ironic that Sabres fans love to hate on the Buffaslug but praise this mess:

Seriously? It looks like an 8-year-old tried to draw a buffalo, and failed miserably. This logo is ten times worse than the Slug in my book.

Best. Logo. Ever.

This is one of the worst NHL (maybe even "the big four") logos ever.

And they managed to update an already :censored: ty logo by making it :censored: tier.

Just because it's old, doesn't mean it's a classic.

Also, just because your favorite team uses it, doesn't mean it's a classic.

This logo is proof that ANYTHING can be considered a classic if its been around long enough. This logo is a trainwreck for the following reasons...

01) The Buffalo looks like its cut out of a stencil. Theres no depth or dimension whatsoever. Just flat, static and lifeless.

02) Logically the Buffalo should be leaping through the sabres. Instead it looks a few seconds away from being sliced in half by the left one.

03) The motion lines only add to this confusion as they are going in completely different directions.

04) The Buffalo isn't even centered on crest and its very noticeable

05) The Blades of Sabres have no dimension or depth either.

06) Theres no barely any contrast when this logo is applied to the blue jersey as its primarily blue as well. Reversing the colours (think Whalers/Nordiques) would go a long way to fixing this.

Honestly this is the most overated logo on these boards.

While that logo is good, it's certainly not the best hockey logo of all-time, and slightly overrated in my book. But it's a lot better than this...

I mean, you guys do know what a basketball is supposed to look like, right?

Or this one:

The designer has obviously never actually seen a hockey stick.

Yeah the tape on the blade is pretty bad but I miss this logo. Looks alot better than the one used now.

Can't agree. The modern one is superior in every way to my eye. The only thing better would have been to use the full-body shark:

And at least the designer familiarized himself with the sport's basic equipment between the first and second incarnations of the logo. More or less.

still has a strange wood-colored knob at the end of the stick, rather than a taped one.

That's what I meant by "more or less". At least he fixed the Tape to Nowhere.

Maybe I am biased because it's my hometown team. Maybe.

I could keep arguing but I'm sure you won't see it in any other way than the view you've already formed, so thanks for sharing.
