2011-12 NBA Season

2,300 posts in this topic

The shortened season is right around the corner, with camps starting in a week, and opening night on December 25th. Reports have a 5 game Christmas Day schedule, featuring the Bulls visiting Staples Center to meet the Lakers, and opening day wraping up with the Clippers going to Oracle to face the Warriors.

Until the season starts, this is the place to post predictions. Can't wait for the season to get started

I'll go ahead and predict an 18-48 regular season record for my Wizards. I think I'm being optimistic.

The Timberwolves are going to be much improved this year. With the star-studded lineup of Ricky Rubio, Kevin Love, Michael Beasley, and Derrick Williams, they should finish 4th in the Northwest Division and 13th in the Western Conference.

Between this & the Christmas Day Quintuple-Header...OMG.

Should be a tough year to root for the hometown team in the Bobcats this year... yeesh....

I'm sure, however, the C's will do well. Green may not be such a big key, but staying healthy will be...

Looks like the rest of the schedule has been released. At least, it looks that way on the Hawks' site.

My quick predictions (assuming no huge trades happen):

Lakers will only be the 3rd best team in the West.

Clippers will make the playoffs.

The Miami Heat will be in Finals against the Thunder with the Heat winning it all.

Looks like Oakland is in danger of now losing all 3 of their pro teams...

The Warriors are in talks with San Francisco exploring moving their operations to a new arena to open by 2017 just south of ATT Park on the SF waterfront. This of course adds to the A's having one foot out the door for San Jose and the Raiders looking at possibly moving to Santa Clara or LA.

I would then presume then they will officially be the San Francisco Warriors at that point, or would they keep the Golden State tag?

Oakland is a pit. That town is dead (except for the nice homes up in the hills of course - Montclair, Piedmont). San Francisco Warriors always had a cool ring to it. If they do move back to the city I'm sure we will see a re-brand again. Having the Oakland side of the bay bridge in the logo won't do if they move back to SF. "The City" and cable car could make their long awaited return. But it's still a wait and see proposition especially when dealing with San Francisco politics.

That would be great for the Warriors, I hate the Golden State moniker; sounds like a team in the Horizon Conference.

Christmas is on a Sunday this year... so Jesus will be too busy scoring touchdowns... (i.e. tending to Tebow)

Knew the Warriors were headed back to San Francisco. Maybe they'll bring the Sharks with them. HP Pavilion looks kinda dumpy.

Have you ever been to the HP Pavilion? It's a very nice arena, the opposite of "dumpy". Plus the Sharks wouldn't leave. They have a sweatheart deal at the Pavilion where they get a cut of all event revenues and full control of the place (that and they're owned by Silicon Valley interests anyway). But a new arena for the Warriors in SF would be a great idea. SF hasn't had it's own arena... well ever. The Cow Palace is actually in Daly City.

And while it's big news, it's not a huge shock as you say. I mean they didn't make this their alternate logo on a whim...

It's not really dumpy. It's just bright white and industrial as :censored:

And that 1980's sounding steampipe organ that plays the same three notes every break in the action

Other than that it looks like a pretty nice arena. I can see why the Warriors would rather have a new arena in San Francisco than move down to San Jose, though
