2013 World Baseball Classic

Okay, the new British cap is better than the old one, but kind of reminds me of the Spanish cap (similar font, no?)

Here's my team-by-team rundown:

AUS: Awesome, of course. The class of the classic.

BRA: Disappointing. Considering all of the epic artwork that's come out of the nation, I figured they could do better.

CAN: Still great.

PRC: Get's some flack, but I like it.

ROC (Taiwan): I really like this. I feel it's kind of underrated.

COL: Not bad, but could be better.

CUB: Awful.

CZE: Didn't like it when it was first released, but it's grown on me.

DOM: Still fantastic.

FRA: My favorite of the new WBC teams' caps.

GER: Such a missed opportunity. Beyond disappointing.

GBR: Love it.

ISR: Second favorite of the new caps, just behind France.

ITA: Not great, but could be way worse. I like it.

JPN: Wished they didn't use the full wordmark on the cap.

KOR: Love it.

MEX: Love it.

NED: Love it.

NZE: Love it, though the font could be improved.

NIC: Meh. I'm a lot closer to not liking it than liking it, but I'm still rather indifferent.

PAN: Love it.

PHI: Not bad, but not great. Too similar to Panama.

PUR: Love it.

RSA: Love it. I always felt this was underappreciated. Maybe it's because the team is so bad.

ESP: Love it.

THA: Hate it. A more "modern" font would serve Thailand well.

USA: Love it.

VEN: Love it.

I like the France, Israel and Spain logos because they have something unique about them. All the other logos are bit too generic for me.

I don't quite understand why they just slap the country's initial on a hat. If they want to go for a classic feel, then why do they choose a modern font?

New Zealand should go with the silver fern, Great Britain could have incorporated the lion, etc.

Also, as a baseball fan, I'm sad to see that the US and Canada have the worst logos of all their national sports bodies. If you look at US Soccer, USA Hockey, USA Basketball, Canada Soccer, Hockey Canada and Canada Basketball, you have a series of very sharp logos that you can be proud of. The baseball ones are stuck in the 90s and are waaay overdue for an update.

I agree with everything except I think us soccer could use an update too. But I hate the us baseball identity. It's terrible. Just bad bad.

Has anyone made a "U *bacon* A" joke in this thread yet?

I mentioned upthread that I'd like to buy a Great Britain hat. But that was when they seemed to be using the interlocking initials. The later version of the hat is a big downgrade for me. I wouldn't buy that one.

Also, the Britain jersey is pretty bad. The two lines of text don't work at all; and the lack of arch or of tilt make the text look even weirder. Their jersey should have had the cap logo on the left breast. (Ideally, this should have been the interlocking GB, which would look great as a jersey logo.)

Anyway, it's nice that most of the British players are showing some sock, even though it's a shame that none seem to have gone all the way and used stirrups.

There's something I don't understand about the Canada jerseys. I just watched the Canada-Germany game and noticed that their jerseys are made by Under Armour, while their jackets are made by Mizuno. Germany, Great Britain and the Czech Republic all have Majestic apparel. So isn't Majestic the official apparel of World Baseball Classic? Did anybody else notice that?

I think the teams are available to take whatever uniform supplier they want (I think Korea and Cuba use non-majestic as well - possibly Japan too), but most teams probably get a good deal with Majestic, particularly for the nations where baseball isn't a huge sport.

Hopefully Korea goes with Nike again, at least it won't be cookie-cutter or something out of a MSWord template.

How's the fit on these? Are the the MLB polyester ones?

I just pulled out my 2012 MLB hats and my 2012 NE Sideline NFL hats. These WBC hats are the identical fit and material of the NFL hat. It is a slightly lower profile crown, but the brim is easier to manipulate like the MLB. My NFL brims are pretty solid. The WBC and NFL are 100% polyester. Same identical tags inside the hats.

_You can tell by the look I the pictures online that they were made in China, which sucks because the quality of the Chinese made caps is downright horrid in comparison to the US made poly 59Fiftys.

_

_I started working at Lids again and have found that the difference in quality of the MLB hats made in the USA and those made in China is so egregiously different that we can't even stock the same hat next to one another when the country of origin is different because they look so different. The US made caps are head and shoulders above the Chinese made knockoffs.

_

_What's even worse is that the NFL New Eras use an even cheaper poly material and are put together even more terribly. I've had more complaints about how awful the New Era NFL caps are than I ever had about the Reebok caps, and those were garbage.

_I called MLB Shop last week asking them where these WBC caps were made and they said they didn't even know, despite having the caps right in front of them. But now that I know they are from China, I hesitate to pick one up now. I find it so odd that even the sizing is wrong. For US caps, I wear 7 1/2, but for China caps, their sizing forces me to wear 7 3/8. You're right, the US quality is just so much better
