I think if MLB's gonna start playing the "won't someone think of the children" card they should start by making it so that a playoff game can finish before 11:30 at night.

Agreed.

But I do agree with Bucfan...A team could have give champagne celebrations.

  1. Clinching playoffs
  2. Winning Wild Card Game
  3. Winning LDS
  4. Winning LCS
  5. Winning World Series

Or

  1. Clinching playoffs
  2. Clinching division (The 2006 Twins did this...they clinched at least the WC and had champagne then a few days later clinched the division and this was the days before the WC had to play a play-in so they were going to a best-of-five either way...I thought it was overkill)
  3. Winning LDS
  4. Winning LCS
  5. Winning World Series

It makes it seem less-than organic. They should be able to only have one celebration prior to going to the World Series. In either of the above scenarios, I'd like to see #2 and #3 done away with.

Disclaimer: If this comment is about an NBA uniform from 2017-2018 or later, do not constitute a lack of acknowledgement of the corporate logo to mean anything other than "the corporate logo is terrible and makes the uniform significantly worse."

Celebrating after clinching a playoff spot is fine with me. You bust your ass all season and you should be able to celebrate and let your hair down a bit after that. Winning the Pennant and the World Series (obviously) is acceptable too. That's three times. Three is enough.

*Wood was the centerpiece of the Latos deal.

*Kemp had his average drop and he yielded an all-star catcher in return. Plus in Molly Knight's book Kemp was revealed to be a clubhouse cancer.

*If you have a multi-billion dollar TV deal you can eat salary.

That's an awful high price to pay for Alex Wood (no matter his upside) and a catcher who had all of three hits in the month of September, all star or not.

I also wonder how long the TV deal is going to be enough to excuse bad deals. I mean, that deal can't stay abnormally high (in comparison to the rest of the league) forever. Other teams in other markets are going to catch up to that eventually.

Look, I dislike the Dodgers and voice that pretty regularly here. But despite that, I do want to see them as competitive as possible because I really do think it's good for the league when the Dodgers are as good as possible, and it really does spark so much into the rivalry that it makes it worth having to worry about them throughout the course of the year.

But the fact that they're paying more to guys in dead money than 5-10 teams (depending on the source) are paying for their entire roster is actually pretty alarming. That can't be sustainable, even for them.

Taking on bad contracts and dead money seems to be the new poker chip on the table.

The Braves were involved in three different deals where bad contracts or dead money this season:

-The Padres agreed to take BJ Upton's entire contract if Kimbrel was tossed in the deal.

-The Braves traded a utility infielder to Arizona for Bronson Arroyo's bad contract as long as this stud pitching prospect was included in the deal. (Arizona wanted to shed $10 million that badly.)

-The Braves let the Dodgers take on Arroyo's contract if Wood was in the deal, if Olivera was part of the return package....and the Dodgers pay the signing bonus portion of his contract.

And yeah, I'll second the notion of wanting the Jays to dress properly. The alts are nice, but come on.

I dunno, I think they're in the zone with the blues. I was thinking about who has the majority hand in that decision; if it's the players then let it roll.

Same with the Mets. If they meet, would MLB allow them both?

I read somewhere a while back that their equipment manager basically said "Well, we win in blue, so let's keep wearing it!". It's not unlike the switch to the solid-blue caps at home in '93, but at least that was an upgrade.

Anyways, sucks to see the Cubbies get swept -- I was cheering for them to at least end their pennant drought. At the very least, the Mets are a likeable team with a fairly-long drought.

I'm starting to wonder if these past two post seasons are gonna hurt Price's free agent contract offers.

That's the second time in these playoffs I've seen a guy score from first....on a single. And I don't think either runner had a running start (as in stealing or a hit-and-run). I think the first time was a bases-loaded-clearing, 3-RBI single.

That was one of those Derek Jeter Lore plays where his hustle and baseball IQ was hailed.

Most on this board HATE Joe Buck, but he just did the moment its due as Joe just shut up after that run scored and let the moment live.

You know for as much as I hate Joe Buck I'd rather have him and his clone do the games than have to listen to Harold Reynolds.

Edit: Oooh somebody's getting their heartbroken tonight and I don't know who.

My God. What a game!

Jays: Good job guys. You went a lot further than I expected you to, and you have a bright future. Also, I'm slightly relieved that I won't have to watch a pennant be unraveled and rings handed out on Opening Day next year against the Sox :P

Royals: Congrats, but prepare to lose to the Mets!
