First of all let me say that I'm pretty much exactly as invested in this place as I want to be. No more, no less. I like having the ability to fade out without having anyone notice or pump my posts to 2-3 a day if I choose. If people are really that interested in who I am and what I do, I'm more than happy to answer any questions people may have for me in PM's, but I'm not going to just lay out everything I do and every opinion I have on the internet for all to see. Unlike some that do I do not believe I am expert on everything.

Its also never been a goal of mine to be the most frequent or most influential poster on this board and it never will be.

My goal right now in terms of internet sports talk is to have my own website started by the end of 2016. I want to do it right though and have a enough time to actually make it something people would want to see and visit which is why I haven't just gone ahead and done it. I know plenty of people that tried and within a month had completely given up, mainly because they had no clue about how much time you needed to invest in order to actually make it work. After a picking out a good domain name, coming up with a web design, making the right connections so that it would get a decent amount of attention out of the gate and building up content, I think I'm further ahead to having something solid than I was nine months ago.

I'm also aware of the seriousness or lack thereof with this board, which is why you only see a glimpse the research I do in the time when I'm not on this board. I've given talks that were attended by college professors. The fantasy baseball league I'm in has been featured on the MLB Network. I've been paid to pen my opinion to paper on more than one occasion. When I say I'm not worried at all about how I'm viewed here, that's why.

Anything I have that I think is really impressive hasn't seen the light of day here. This place is basically my test kitchen. I like to throw ideas out there and see how well they play. If I make a post and one of the sentences or paragraphs seems a little off from the others, that's probably what it is. If I get feedback from it great, if not I simply try to get opinions through another outlet. The work I do is constantly being revaluated and revised and posts made on this board by both myself and others have played a role in that process.

I think my main goal here is to push that type of interest in research because its dying. I hate walking into a room and being the youngest person there by over 20 years, but what I hate even more is being told that if I had shown up 30 years ago, the room would have been less crowded, but the median age would have been a lot closer to mine. If I can even get one or two solid people from that turn out to be solid researchers who otherwise wouldn't have done it at all, I will think of it as time being very well spent.

I'm not worried about it dying off completely just yet. There's still enough people out there like myself to ensure that it won't happen, but its definitely in danger.

People still care about sports and researching stats, but its all for fantasy now. If all people want to do with their knowledge is make some side money and talk smack to friends, I'm not going stop them. I just wish more people had bigger and better things in mind than spending six plus hours a week in an effort to win $300 and bragging rights. I'm sure the man running this site would agree and its not to say that nobody here doesn't try to go further than being the best fantasy player in their league. Tank started his own website, Infra has his own podcast, I still like checking out what people do in the concept thread from time to time. I just wish there were more people my own age with that same kind of passion instead of just trying to figure out how to make a quick buck, so I can stop feeling so lonely at these research talks if nothing else.

If I can keynote a conference based on that one time I ate a bag of gumdrops and puked, I'll be set.

I was gonna say "well, I'm gonna give a TED Talk on having nothing important to say," but then I realized that's what most TED Talks already are.

♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫

I'm just glad you are here Pmoehrin. You have awesome insight on everything baseball to me. I know you want to downplay that, but I really enjoy reading what you have to say. Your analysis on the Brewers is spot on. I appreciate you taking the time out of your day to provide that report..

Kazmir to the Dodgers on a 3 year, $48 million deal. Two thoughts on this:

1. Disappointed the Orioles couldn't snag him - he was the best lefty on the market besides Chen. Oh well, just have to hope they snag Gallardo now.

2. The deal contains an opt-out clause after one year. Is it just me, or is that incredibly stupid?

So, i got an alert on my iPad last night. The first part of it was good news: the O's are holding at 7 years, $154 million for Chris Davis. Great news: they shouldn't go any higher.

The next part of the alert ruined my night. It said that Peter Angelos isn't letting the front office pursue any other free agents.

THEY WERE GOING TO DO IT. THEY HAD SCOTT BORAS IN A CORNER. HE HAD NOWHERE TO TURN. THEY HAD THE LEVERAGE.

And then, Angelos took the leverage from right under Dan Duquette's noise and handed it to Scott Boras.

What's especially frustrating about this is that Justin Upton can probably be had for 6 years $120 million right now, but no, Angelos is making is focus on just Davis. If we lose out on either Upton, Gordon, Cespedes, Gallardo, etc. and are forced to give Davis $25 million a year for 7 years, I will lose my mind.

EDIT: Aaaaaaand Gordon back to Royals on a 4 year deal for $72 million. So done - we could've easily got him. I'm done with Peter Angelos.

Denard Span to the Giants, 3 years, $31 million.

Pretty solid off season for the Giants. Three guys who are risky but have a HUGE upside if healthy.

Scott Boras is an evil genius.

Toronto sends outfielder Ben Revere to Washington for closer Drew Storen.

That's a nice solid deal, for both clubs I guess. It also means good news that Aaron Sanchez should probably be ready for the starting rotation, & also giving Roberto Osuna either a prime set up man, or himself becoming one.

Word is R.A. Dickey's name is on a casual trade block. Nothing crazy amazing there, yet still something I suppose.

I'm ready for baseball. Now.

So there have been some Cespedes-Orioles rumors before now, but they were just that: rumors. Well, that change yesterday when it came out that the O's actually offered Cespedes a contract. I don't think this is just leverage in the Davis situation - if it was, they wouldn't have offered him an actual contract. I'm really excited about this - they need an outfielder who can anchor the lineup. Cespedes checks all the boxes, even the "no draft pick compensation" one. The contract is for 5 years and $75-$90 million. That's a little long for a 30 year old, but we were going to offer the 29 year old Davis a 7 year deal.

Plus, his uniform number fits in with Baltimore: http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/c/cespeyo01.shtml

So apparently Davis will receive all of that $161 million, just over the course of 21 years... According to Buster Olney, Davis will receive $17MM per year through the life of the contract, then $3.5MM a year from 2023 through 2032, then $1.4MM a year from 2033 through 2037. I want to think it's a good idea, but I'm not too sure.

At least the damage is relatively minimal after the 7 years. Still, though that is a long time.

I'll post more thoughts later when there's no football on and I'm off of mobile.

Ian Kennedy goes to the Royals. $70 million over 5 years with an opt-out after 2.

That's one of those sneaky deals that may produce big dividends and if not you cut ties quickly and move on. I like that, Giovanny Gallardo might be getting a similar deal.
