Here we go again.....

It's been awhile since I dabbled with the Thunder's look. I'm starting off slow this time with a concept board. It shows several different configurations of bison/cloud looks. The key ideas/thoughts/buzz words here are; power - maleficent - foreboding. Let me know what you think.

i probably like C and E the most. I really hate how every NBA logo has to have a basketball in it, so it's nice to see some concepts without that crutch.

that said, i think B, with a giant wordmark under the chin, would be the most likely logo to ever be adopted by the team, given the rumored "rules" of nba design.

OKC definitely needs to revamp their logos -- lightning and/or a buffalo seemed like the obvious route in terms of imagery when they first became a franchise, but alas they ended up with a cartoon basketball shield instead. Go figure.

I really like some of what you've created here going along with the logical imagery of lightning and/or a buffalo. I tend to separate your drafts into two groups: one comprised of A/D/E, the other comprised of B/C/F. I think the first group - A/D/E - works in theory, but while the imagery fits together rather well it still feels cluttered. A is certainly my favorite because it is free from the basketball and shield backdrops in D and E, respectively. The second group - B/C/F - is free of clutter, yet still rather intriguing. I especially like F, which is far and away my favorite of the entire set, because of its arrowhead-ish background shield. That's a very strong, yet somewhat subtle detail that really enhances the identity for me.

Very nice sketches here....I'll keep an eye out for where you take this!

I agree. I actually put B together thinking that it was the NBA-est and by default the most vanilla looking. Thanks for the input!

I agree with these completely. You found the dividing line in the concepts. I created ADE first and saw how cluttered they were, so I stripped it down to BCF. The arrowhead shield is a hold over from my last OKC concept (as well as my recent Sioux Falls concept). Thanks for the input!

All of these concepts are great!!  I really like A and D. I like F too, but I'm not a big fan of the shield logo being used for basketball(unless it's a secondary logo).

I can agree with this, however if given a choice between shield and roundel.... I'd take shield. Thanks for the input!

I'm a fan of A. I think you could work well with that and it would fit well with a wordmark.

Thanks for the input!

I really like F, but then again, I really like simple logos without too much going on. Adding an arched THUNDER above it and you would be good to go.

Yeah adding a wordmark to the most promising look is net up. Thanks for the input!

Great comments everyone! I'd like to get some more input though. So lets get some input from those of you who are lurking and adding to the "views" but not adding your views!

So I took E to work out color schemes (doesn't mean that it's the best shape) and as stated I used several different ideas. I tried to stay away from color combos already in use in the league, RWB, and navy/dark blue(NBA's color-crack). Black/Yellow and Black/Orange were 2 combos that I knew were not very utilized so I tried them with a cream color as well as white. While working with colors I ended up eliminating the outline at one point and it looked pretty strong so I altered a few things and ran with it. I did not do each scheme with each concept logo, so you'll have to use your imagination as to how the colors look on the different shapes. Let me know which is strongest. (Or just look at them, not say anything, wait for a choice to be made, then chime in after everything is done and say that it should've been one of the others <_<)

I'm not thrilled by any of the black-based color schemes for A, D, E, and F.

My issue with A and D seems to be that the blue and yellow compete too hard with the black to fit well together. When I think of black-based color schemes I consider to be very good - the Bulls, Heat, Nets, Spurs, and Trailblazers, to name a few - one common denominator is that each incorporates just a single non-neutral color (with the exception of the Heat's fitting touch of yellow). While I can appreciate the uniqueness, I don't think this is the best option.

As much as I like the simplicity of E in regards to what I just mentioned about A and D, I think I associate black and yellow too much with Pittsburgh professional sports teams to realistically consider it. That's not to say it doesn't look good or potentially fit with what would be their new identity -- more than anything, it's probably just my own personal roadblock.

F, and most every color scheme incorporating black and orange, screams Halloween to me for whatever reason. Also, I'm not sure how the addition of cream fits into this color scheme.

I'm neutral on C and perplexed by the Phoenix Suns-ish color scheme of H, but both look good enough.

That leaves both B and G, both of which I really like. Maybe I'm just conditioned to associate the Thunder with that light blue/navy blue/orange/yellow color scheme, but it's unique and balances well together. The navy blue/orange/cream also has similar qualities or uniqueness and balance, while also retaining some semblance of their current color scheme. To me, both of these are more than viable options -- nicely done.

I'm drawn to the color combos with the white or cream colored buffalo, not only because it contrasts the backdrop of the logo the best, but also because of the spiritual significance of a white bison to the plains Indian tribes.

That being said, I think B is my favorite. I might add a dark gray too, to use as an outline, maybe, and for the nose. I like the black and orange combo too.

I'm a big fan of cream or off-white, so B, F, and H all look great in my books!  It especially helps that the shade of cream that you chose matches very well with the shade of orange.  My only concerns are that B uses navy (which I know you're trying to avoid, and rightfully so), F reminds me too much of Oklahoma State (don't know if you want that similarity), and the purple on H isn't quite speaking to me (plus, that's a little too close to what the Suns use currently).  I'd put my top 4 at B, F, E, and H, although truthfully most of these would actually work.  Great work as always, though!

I'd say B or G.

For B, I really like the thunder coming out the bottom of the T and R, but the T sort of looks like a J.

For G, I think the text should be white. At least at this size, the dark text looks unnoticeable.

Great concepts so far!
