Imagine leaving a market like the Bay Area to play third (probably soon to be fourth once the NBA expands) fiddle in a desert wasteland filled with transients and no water. Good :censored:in luck, you clowns.

Even if that's true you're comparing fan support in a 9 game sample size versus Rays' fan support over an 81 game sample size. The fans of popular teams don't have "no problem" coming out, they just have far fewer games to choose from. If the Rays fans only had 9 games to choose from in a season it would also look like they have no problem coming out. You know that, though, because you removed that point from my post.

I'm with those who aren't sure a new ballpark would help attendance if a team is still irrelevant. The Pirates are irrelevant and play in a widely-lauded downtown ballpark. Nobody still comes to games. Hell, if PNC wasn't part of a package deal with Heinz back in the late 90's, they'd likely have gone to DC years before the Expos did. And after that first year when the "new ballpark" novelty wore off... right back to crappy attendance.

A good stadium doesn't necessarily draw crowds when your team is irrelevant, it just keeps the team around a while longer, whether people care or not.

Unlike the Rays and A's, who never go more than a few years between playoff berths, Pirates fans have good reason to be pissed off and disengaged. Save for 3 and a half random seasons last decade, nobody under the age of 35 remembers that franchise being anything other than a willing and consenting cumdumpster for the rest of baseball.

But noooooo you can't just stealth merge them with the Rays and give them actual scouts and a player development program, teams for nobody that are really good at winning 88 games a year with no money and no fans are sacred and must be preserved!

Truly a shame.

We should start taking bets for which Vegas team will be the first to relocate?

They probably would be fifth if Vegas got an MLS franchise. Hell, sixth if you take UFC into equation, which in Vegas is more or less equivalent to a major league team.

With the very likely possibility of the team racking up their second 100 loss season in a row,  why would any baseball fans in Vegas give a damn for the A's coming to their hometown? They've seen the same cheap as f*** owners sandbag since Manfred gave permission for them to explore relocation, and no guarantee that the owners aren't going to run the A's as cheaply in Vegas as they did in the East Bay.

Bryce Harper (Vegas native) said recently that Vegas would embrace an MLB expansion team instead of a relocated A's.

This. Right here. People seem to think the A’s are going to miraculously start putting more money towards the on field product if they get this sweetheart deal in Vegas. They absolutely will not. This ownership group will just pocket any of the extra revenue like they’re doing now. The only thing that’s actually going to fix this is if the owners sell the team or they’re just contracted.

Hard to say. The A's (if they go there) would appear to be the obvious answer, but if Vegas builds them a new baseball-specific airplane hangar it will become a Marlins situation and we/they will be stuck with them.

A nine-game slate of Rays games at the Trop would still be a desert if you kept opposing fans from attending. I'll let you try and figure out why. Put on your thinking scarf.

(Or just continue spamming "math, sweetie" like an incurious twitteroid, in which case I'll get more memes ready.)

Maybe I shouldn't have posted it, but only because it clearly distracted anyone from finishing the cumdumpster/Bob Nutting alley-oop that I offered up.

I, for one, chuckled at the visual of the Pirate Parrot being surrounded by a circle of all the other team mascots right on the pitcher's mound.

To stay on topic - regarding first team to move, I know it sounds ridiculous right now, but wouldn't it be the Golden Knights?  I know they have good support, and the one game I saw on TV looked like a great atmosphere, but 1) there's no way the Raiders are leaving for 20-30 years after that stadium was built, 2) if the A's get a stadium, they'll be locked in regardless that they won't get good attendance, and 3) the NBA (IMO) would thrive there.

Not saying the VGK are likely to move, but of the four, they're by default the most likely.

Twists the argument again, resorts to condescension.

We're not changing the point - You said "it doesn't seem like fans of popular teams have any problems coming out". The reason it appears like there's a lot of Red Sox fans at any one Red Sox game at the Trop is because they have fewer games at the trop. Your population of fans have fewer games to fill. You're not spread as thin. That's so obvious I can't believe I'm still explaining it.

It is math, sweetie. Basic math. It's not my fault you don't get it.

You're projecting HARD. Hit me with a meme because memes are always a sign of a curious, not extremely online person. All the healthiest online minds use memes. Find a good one. Like something that's really reductive and dumb. Bonus points if it's anime again.

Yeah it’s probably the Knights, or the A’s way into the future.

I think if Vegas gets an MLS team it’d be a complete disaster.

I would disagree, personally; if anything, they're the least likely to move of the teams.

From everything I've ever seen, locals absolutely adore the Knights, since they're not a relocation, they're entirely Vegas-born and have made great efforts to tie themselves into the community. They've already built a very strong and loyal fanbase; they're basically Nashville West at this point. The NBA is both extremely popular and looking into an expansion team as well, so as long as they don't :censored: it up they're pretty likely set with a Vegas team as well.

The Raiders don't get nearly as much love because the locals don't really consider them a Vegas franchise since they were relocated from Oakland because ownership wanted more money, and I can't imagine them picking up too much traction if they don't go and start doing the "winning big games" thing again. Besides, the whole Allegiant plan wasn't exactly very popular to begin with, they've already started on the wrong foot.

The A's? The team that is an exact copy of the Raiders' situation, absolutely notorious for cutting payroll and will likely be undergoing extremely bad seasons when they move to Vegas because of how cheap ownership is and almost definitely will have another publically-funded stadium? Good :censored:ing luck getting people to tie themselves to that ship.

The Raiders and A's have a history of moving if their city doesn't bend over backwards or if they smell greener pastures of money somewhere else. By default, they're the most likely franchises to relocate in the Vegas market, since the other two will very likely take to the locals far more.

Vegas also wants an NBA team, and a lot of people are saying that when the NBA expands again (and it won't be until they get a new CBA and a new Broadcasting contract) it's them and Seattle with some scuttlebutt about Mexico City.  LeBron has expressed interest in owning the Las Vegas NBA team alongside Fenway Sports Group (owners of the Boston Red Sox and Pittsburgh Penguins and Liverpool FC).

As for MLS?  I don't want Vegas in MLS.  I want the next teams, 30-32 to be: Indy and San Diego at 30 and 31 and one of New Mexico or Louisville at 32.  I want to see cities brand new to major league sports, and Albuquerque (New Mexico) and Louisville fit that mode.  I didn't like how Austin landed Austin FC, but I liked that Austin finally got a major league sports team.  I liked Vegas getting the Golden Knights and I would be cool with Las Vegas in the major league sports scene if all they had was the Golden Knights and the WNBA's Aces, but instead, they got an NFL team and have expressed interest in MLB, MLS and NBA.

I don't get why Mexico City is the only place in Mexico people talk about when it  comes to the big four. 2 weeks from everywhere and the elevation is ridiculous. There's other cities with huge populations that are a lot closer to the border. Also all of them are in Mexico which is a big problem too
