GhostOfNormMacdonald
The town I was born in packs a 2k stadium for townball in the summer. The MLB is disrespecting the fine prairiefolk that love the game smh. Give us the As!
GhostOfNormMacdonald
Ik it's a different situation but measuring ability to host and maintain an MLB team because you can pack a 4k stadium is kind of silly. I hope Oakland/the bay can get another team, but this is just pure copium
Dilbert
13 hours ago, WestCoastBias said: Would you rather see baseball get a lifeless dome with artificial grass or another beautiful outdoor ballpark on the bay? We already have both, so Id rather see the A's play somewhere that isnt crumbling, with backed up sewers, and in a city where the local government actually cares about their sports teams. Oakland has had nearly 20 years to get a new ballpark built, but instead the city has lost the Warriors, Raiders, and now the A's. Yes I get that Fischer passed on the Howard terminal park for Vegas, but what about the years before that when they tried San Jose, Fremont to keep the team in the Bay Area? Oakland was silent. Oakland had plenty of chances but Fischer and MLB gave up because the city of Oakland kept dragging their feet to the point that it was too late. Its the same reason the Warriors, and Raiders left too, because the city was silent. 5 1 Quote Signature intentionally left blank

Because professional sports is an entertainment business and Las Vegas happens to be the entertainment capital of the world. It's also one of the fastest growing cities in the country, having almost doubled its population in the past 20 years. The only reason it's taken this long for leagues to put teams there is because they spent decades in fear of the boogieman known as gambling.

For me it's more about "Las Vegas is getting 4 Major League teams way too fast" so much so that I don't think they can sustain all 4 Major League teams plus WNBA, National Lacrosse League, Pro Volleyball Federation, Indoor Football League, MLS team (which they will get) and eventually a Women's soccer team. The only sport I do worry about succeeding there is baseball. But, it's probably more of an A's issue than baseball issue. Well they've been able to sustain everything so far. Also, the city of Los Angeles got an NBA team, NHL team, and two MLB teams in less than 10 years from 1958-1967, so the idea of a city getting teams this quickly isn't unprecedented. I thought it was just bitter northern hockey fans who were upset about Vegas having a hockey team, but it seems like there's an odd group of sports fans who see teams in Vegas as some sort of affront to the integrity of competition or something.

My main issue is that I think that Las Vegas should taking things slowly with their major league teams. Give the new team in Vegas time to breathe for several years before another league goes there. Let them build local fanbases first. That is my main issue with the whole thing. Las Vegas getting MLB and NBA is inevitable, but their arrivals in the city should be spread out a few years rather than having them arrive in the same year. They won't sustain all both teams if they arrive in the same year.
WestCoastBias
I just don't like Las Vegas that's why I don't want them to get an MLB team. Of course I wanted the A's to stay in Oakland/Bay Area but I'd rather see them ultimately stay in Sacramento or end up in Portland or even Vancouver, places that are actual cities with PCL history rather than a gambling tourist attraction.
