MLB 2023 Uniform/Logo Changes

I will say, seeing them in in-game action, the Cardinals ad patch doesn’t stand out nearly as bad as I thought it would.  And it’s 1000x better than any other one I’ve seen for the other teams.  I still don’t like it, but at least it seems to blend well.

Ok, you're literally just talking to yourself. I don't think you're gonna find anybody who agrees with you. At least not to the extent your taking this.

I agree with him. The Dodgers selling a Jackie Robinson city connect jersey that "salutes the team’s connection with its Latino fanbase" and "nods to the City’s street art culture and the murals which add color to buildings throughout Los Angeles" is kind of ridiculous for someone who didn't even play for the Dodgers in LA.

The Pirates one though seems to be based off the bridges in Pittsburgh? One of which is named after Clemente, who did play in Pittsburgh unlike Robinson and LA. That feels fine to me.

I can't believe it.  The Cardinals ended their homestand the 19th and two days later in Seattle the Sutter memorial patches were gone.  Then they come home and suddenly have the new patches.  They've been planning this and tried to slip it by.

They have two sleeves.  How can they do this?  Were they trying to avoid complaints about the memorial patch flipping sleeves?  Were they worried about the aesthetic issue of flipping patches for their uniform?  The correct answer to either of these was absolutely not completely dropping the patch.  This is despicable.

What kind of dismissive disrespectful crap is this?   He's Henry Aaron, the symbol of the Braves, now in 2023, and for all time.

Someone who spits on Hank Aaron — and then cannot even spell his name — is no Braves fan, nor any kind of baseball fan.  Educate yourself.

(What kind of damn fools do we have running around here?)

So the embarrassing ignorance is not limited to baseball history, then.  That's the first time I have seen two apostrophes in "ain't"!

Oh no, spelling errors?

The humanity!

Guess i better be heading out on my paper route to earn more money for my education!

Well, one good thing about the Cardinals sponsor patch is at least they’re matching the background to the uniform. I don’t think any other team has done that yet.

Honestly couldn't even tell it was outlined in navy until the picture of the patches FiddySicks posted. Last night, watching the game, I genuinely thought it was just one-color red lettering.

I truly fooled myself into believing the Cardinals weren't doing one anytime soon, especially with the Bruce Sutter memorial patch on the same sleeve for everybody. But if they're gonna do one, this is about as best as you can hope for... I guess.

The team has been pretty up front about its intent to sell that space. A year ago, the team president, Bill DeWitt III, said he viewed the jersey sponsorship as being akin to a stadium naming rights deal, in terms of importance and the value in brand exposure. And this February, he said they had had conversations with several brands and were  hoping to have a deal done by opening day.

I can say this from meeting him, DeWitt is a logo and uniform guy.  He's the one who, about four years ago, spearheaded the process for revising the STL primary logo because he noticed there were imperfections and inconsistencies in how the logo was applied.

I say all this, because DeWitt was almost certainly the one who made sure the logo would fit seamlessly into the aesthetic of the uniform rather than being an eyesore.

The ad on its own is about as good as it can get.  I also didn't notice the outline, thinking it was just definition because thestitching stuck out.  The thing that makes this an abomination is not the patch itself or the sponsor (although there seemed to be some complaint from locals about Stifel), but the way they steamrolled Sutter's memorial patch for it.  The mention of DeWitt being a uniform guy seems to support it was done for aesthetic reasons.

You could even keep a black stripe on the same sleeve as the patch.  Or, given how small the sponsor is, just put the memorial patch on the same sleeve and flip the sponsor as needed.  It should fit easily.

And the Yankees 2024 Babe Ruth jersey!

At least the identity is the same, so it's not that bad.

So the point of the ad placement for the batter is to be on the sleeve that faces the camera. Yet the ads for every pitcher is on their non-pitching sleeve… which faces away from the camera.🤨

I was watching the Cubs and Marlins the other day, and that ugly ADT patch was on the Miami pitcher's visible sleeve. Evidently, teams are starting to pick up on this discrepancy, and the ad-free grace period we've seen on the mound so far will likely meet its end fairly soon.

Strange coincidence that the latest two City Connect jersey are very "retro"

Even stranger is that these jerseys are available with retired and even dead player name on them!

.

Now why the hell would you spend $500 on a 2023 jersey that these players never wore or will  ever wear in a game??

-

Hank Aaron is dead for Gods sake!

Why would you wear a  current jersey with his name,  go to Michell and Ness instead and buy the real throwback jersey, that's "only" $300!

Talk about jersey foul! This is common sense foul!

Can't believe Nike actually made them ....  + people are stupid enough to buy them.

-

End of rant.

Nostalgia for a player is more important for some fans than is historical context. That's going to be a big push for college jerseys as well.
