Gonna be honest,  who wins this tournament means very little to me.

 

Even if UConn walks to a title, this will always be the Florida Atlantic year in my mind, with a side of Fairleigh Dickinson and Princeton.

Last year's final four was fun, but that's the Saint Peter's year in my memory and it always will be.

 

Even UConn's previous titles were the VCU year and the Dayton year.

 

The journey is so much more fun than the destination, and that's not a bad thing. We're fed so much in the early rounds of the tournament that I'm too full to care if we stick the landing.

here's the different between UConn and schools like Kentucky and Duke. when Kentucky and Duke are winning, there was never any hope anyway. when UConn wins, it's always when they're surrounded by better options. they're essentially the Angels of college basketball - while UConn is actually successful, they share the same "ruining it for everybody at every opportunity" ethos.

There about are five total schools who if you pick them to win the tournament, you’re probably going to hit the majority of the time. UConn is absolutely one of those schools.

Speaking of UConn... they're  up by 25 on Gonzaga after winning their first three games by 24, 15, and 23.  Outside of one terrible month this season, they were probably the best team in college basketball.  Impressive run so far.

UConn is a great frontrunner. It's easy to look like a buzzsaw when you face 0 adversity and you haven't had to overcome anything.

 

The Huskies are great by 15+. But if they trail by 10..... they feel like a team that is not built to win from behind or close games.

This feels like the Florida title run when they had to face George Mason in the final four.

Plus you have to also remember Florida had never won a title prior to that (heck they had a run of first weekend flameouts from 2001-2005 prior to that title run)

 

UConn has already won 4 titles and as literally the only team that has won something when the elite 8 started, it would be quite the plot twist if in the year of parity a team that's won it before wins again.

I mean, not really. It’s not like we haven’t seen that similar thread before. Butler lost consecutive title games to Duke and UConn.

In the Butler/Duke case, that FF also had Michigan State (a proven commodity)

 

As for Butler/UConn, it was either the Huskies or Kentucky.

When Wichita State made the FF as a 9 seed (with 2 future NBA players), they gave Louisville hell.

The way I see it, we could still walk away with a pretty fun champion. In order of who I’d like to see win the most to least I’d say it goes: 

 

1). Miami. If only for the Lebatard Pipo goodness we’ll get out of that one. It would be hilariously dumb. And if their women’s team wins on top of that? Holy :censored:. 
 

2). Creighton. That would be very fun and dumb, too! 
 

3). San Diego State. Same as Creighton but just slightly less so. San Diego being one of the most beautiful beach cities in the country and Creighton playing in Omaha, Nebraska (Decidedly NOT one of the most beautiful beach cities in the country) gives Creighton the edge there. 
 

4). FAU. Ehh, I’m not sold on them being that fun. That’s almost too dumb. But an FAU Miami title game with FAU winning would be so funny. Talk about bragging rights. 
 

5). Texas. Not your traditional basketball school, but it’s still Texas. Would be kinda lame. 
 

6). UConn. Eww. Almost guaranteed right now too, so boring as boring could be.

It’s not the worst option left, but I can’t in good conscience hope for something good to happen to the Texas Longhorns. They have enough cool stuff. Texas ranks about as high as you can get on the snoot scale. Of the remaining six, they’re easily #5.

And yet they might be the legit best option left to stop the Husky express.

 

If the Longhorns lose to Miami, UConn basically has a cakewalk.

I hope UConn and Miami face off in the Final Four. I will root for whoever wins between those two.
