Argonauts... new logo to come?

I'm just noticing that the current "boatman" logo is disappearing rapidly from the CFL universe. Although we didn't get a great look yet at the new jerseys, it appears that the boatman has been removed from the shoulders and replaced with the "A shield".

The CFL website has recently changed Toronto's logo on their top navigation banner. They are now showing the "A shield" as the Argos logo.

On the Toronto Argonauts website, they have also seemingly given the boatman the boot, most notably in the wordmark. All signs of teal-blue as a color have also seemingly been vanquished from the wordmark, which used to have a teal wave running across the background. This would be in concordance with the new jerseys, which are lacking of teal.

Hopefully the "A shield" is only transitional. Regardless, this all seems to point to the boatman drowning.

(I really hope they bring back the football boat from the 1980s!)

The "Argonaut Warrior" (aka "boatman") logo was - and is - brilliant. So was the new "ship" secondary logo that SME designed for the Argonauts in conjunction with the "Argonaut Warrior" primary.

I'm all for the Teal being dumped in favor of a more traditional Powder Blue, but the abandonment of the "boatman" is a HUGE mistake IMHO. Thank God that I purchased a pair of Authentic Personalised Adidas Argos jerseys a few years back... one home, one away.

I totally agree with Brian. The 'Warrior' logo and crest used recently has been the best design I've seen in the CFL, and no, I'm not biased at all.....

I really cannot stand the design of the Football/Boat logo. It looks much to silly to be taken seriously and makes no sense to me for them to loss the modern looking warrior and shield look. If it all comes to a total logo change to the boat concept, I shall be buying a total of ZERO new jerseys for my collection.

Boat/Football= Stupid looking lazy hybrid of two different images.

Warrior w/ Shield= Crisp and clean modern design with well defined imagery.

sadly, it appears that's the case. I guess we're gonna have to agree to disagree, that Argos uniform was one of the best in football. If they'd simply changed the teal on those to powder blue, there's your change right there. Reebok had to give em this homogenized plop though :cursing:

The Argos are changing their logo, a story appeared in the Toronto Star today.

They are adding that A circle logo to the helmets (WHY?!) and the old boat logo from the 70s is coming back.

Teal has been removed from the colour scheme.

Sorry Brian.

I actually don't mind the A logo. I would much rather see the boat logo, and I am hoping that it will appear on the jerseys somehow (those Texans-style stripes look awful). My biggest hope, however, is that blue pants will return to be worn with the white jerseys.

Hey, Chris, for your article you might want to add the Rams to the list of teams that won a championship, changed their logo and uniforms the following season and then went on to post-season disappointment. In 2000, the Rams adopted the charging ram's head logo, adoped a millenium blue and metallic gold color scheme and completely re-did their uniforms. They started the season 6-0 but subseqently fell back to earth, yielding the division title to the Saints and losing to New Orleans in the first round of the playoffs.

I dropped the whole champion curse thing after someone pointed out to me that the Rockets didn't lose to an underdog.

I don't mind at all having the 'A' shield design as a secondary logo perhaps on the Helmets and Shoulders, but I do draw the line at dropping the Warrior image as a primary or corporate logo.

This is the newer "boat" secondary that I was referring to. I never understood why the Argos didn't make more use of this logo in conjunction with the Argonaut/Warrior primary.

I think that the Argonaut/Warrior logo as the primary, with this boat logo as the secondary is a damned fine identity package.

I like the football ship logo--but this one is nice as well--I prefer profile logos on football helmats--so I'm not sure on the helmet--but it would make a great endzone logo!
