It is against the religion of baseball to swear your allegiance to both the Cubs and Sox..... Same with Yankees & Mets....

According to his profile his favourite mlb team is the mariners... try to figure that one out :)

Stanford's called the Cardinal. What's the difference?

Ya know, I think it's just because it sounds a bit odd. There's a few that are named after just their colors but they sound better (or we've heard them so much we're used to it). Even the few one syllable color names out there are pluralized - "Blues", "Reds" - but even that might sound odd with Gold.

Because at least it sounds like a real nickname. In fact, I think the average person probably thinks they have an "s" on the end.
