Sportsnet.ca's Hockey Hearsay section is reporting a possible pending blockbuster:
A report in the Montreal Gazette says rumours are flying about a deal brewing between Montreal and Florida which would see the teams switch goaltenders.

The rumoured deal would send Montreal native Roberto Luongo to (the Habs) for former Hart Trophy and Vezina Trophy winner Jose Theodore.

Florida's insistence of the inclusion of Calder Trophy finalist Michael Ryder is the sticking point for the deal.

Ahhhhhh Wha????

I think Florida would be absolutewly nuts to part with Luongo. But they are both 2 great tenders, just whaaaaaa. I doubt this will go through.

LaCroix's making some weird moves. Sauve was supposed to the "next Roy" - especially when the Avs drafted him - and certainly was a servicable backup to Abby.

Smart is believing half of what you hear. Genius is knowing which half.

What would be the point of this trade? Is one's contract significantly larger than the other?

Both are RFAs, and I can only imagine that they'd make about the same. Maybe Theodore would make a bit more because of the hardware in his trophy case.

Hum...TSN now says that Burke was signed by Tampa Bay...contridictory to earlier reports that he signed with Pittsburgh... And now the Tampa Bay site also says he was signed by them... how did it get out earlier that he signed with Pitts when it now turns out he didnt? I guess it makes sense TSN didnt announce it on their site... must have started on the net somewhere...

Pittsburgh can acquire all the talent they want.

Until they get a proven 'tender (MA Fluery isn't the real deal) and unitl the LEARN how to win...they won't.

I stand by my statement.

Burke would have been a nice addition though :P

easy answer: pittsburgh dosn't deserve a team more then kc, winnipeg, qc, or hartford.

Certainly they do. In the modern era, Pittsburgh has stayed put (however tenuously). The other four have not. La.

lets take a look at your home town team. minnesota had the stars, then lost them. by your logic minnesota wouldn't disereve a new team because they failed ot hang on to the stars team. yet the nhl saw that minnesota was a hockey gold mind and that they deserved as team. nhl hockey came back to minnesota in the form of the wild. the wild are doing great in terms of fan support, and it looks like the decision to give minnesota a second chance was a smart one.

so if giving minnestoa a second chance worked out, then why not give a second chance to markets like qc and winnipeg (where the support for hockey equalls or supasses that of the twin cities)? if minnesota worked, then winnipeg will work just as well, if not better.

Because Minnesota is a bigger market than Winnipeg and Quebec City aren't. Let's face the facts when it comes to trying to market the game to sponsors and television networks that might carry the league it looks better to have team in Minnesota than Winnipeg and QC. Hate to break it to you no team is moving to Winnipeg or Quebec mainly due to the fact those markets don't factor into ratings, and it's not a huge market like Toronto to where it would make up for losses in league revenue. Maybe years and years down the road if the league expands but not a team moving.

Uhh, Winnipeg can't even sell out the MTS Centre on a consistent basis where as the state of Minnesota packs out the Xcel Energy Center for high school hockey and has standing room only crowds for Gopher hockey. In fact, Manitoba was the 4th highest attended team in the AHL in a supposedly hockey-mad town. And if the support is so great in Quebec City, why haven't they once sold out a QMJHL game there?

pollux, in these uncertain times we need sources, man!

Usually type in www.tsn.ca or www.nhl.com and you'll have your answer.

Otherwise I would have stated it as a rumor.

And thanks OMMF.
