If I controlled the NFL

If I ran the NFL:

All NFL teams would have to get a majority approval from members of this message board before changing uniforms.

All NFL teams must have an annual meeting with Pantone to discuss any possible violations in use of color, and failure to do so will result in a fine that will be donated to a charity that helps under privlaged fans buy authentic jerseys.

All NFL head coaches must wear suits and ties on the sideline for every game. The addition of appropriate headwear will gain that team extra draft picks.

EA Sports has to hire one member on this board for each NFL team to make sure the uniforms and throwback uniform options on all futre Madden games are correct. And then provide us with free games.

The Super Bowl winner from the previous season gets wear a Super Bowl patch the whole damn year the following season.

Super Bowl celebrations and trophy presentation will take place at the nearest sports bar to the Super Bowl stadium.

Season ticket holders of Super Bowl winning teams get free lap dances for one year at any participating gentlemen's club.

I have to respectfully disagree here on all counts. Though the sleeves would make my work easier (odds are players wouldn't be taping their jerseys down- that's a pain in the butt to get on/off!), I like uniforms as they are now. I also like the small sponsor logo. Speaking from a fan standpoint as opposed to professional, the celebration has to stay now. The best part of my spontaneous drive from Ann Arbor to Pittsburgh for the AFC Title Game last year was seeing the Pats celebrate on Heinz Field (and getting an AFC Champs hat from the team!). It was awesome to see. Same with getting to see the Pistons presented with the Eastern Conference trophy in person, and the Wings winning the cup in person. Those are things I'll get to tell everyone I saw. As a jersey freak, I like patches, too. Gives me something else to buy. I'm glad the Pats started the trend of putting Champs patches on the jerseys for the opening game.

So you're a big fan of insidious logo and patch creep, huh? You're what's wrong with sports. BTW, NE celebrating in dead silent/half empty Heinz Field was an abomination, not unlike screwing at a funeral.

1. Reintroduce real sleeves. All sleeves must extend at least halfway between your shoulder pad and your elbow. QB's are exempt.

2. No Reebok trademark logos on the outside of the unis.

3. No NFL logo at the base of the jersey collar or on the pants.

4. No team names sewn on the away jerseys. We know who the teams are for Christ's sake.

5. Super Bowl victors will celebrate in the locker room where they belong, not on a platform at midfield. Why football and baseball changed this I have no idea. It sucks, and it's a slap in the face to tradition.

Do you even like sports? Or how about this, do you even like the time we live in? Sorry to say but the 70's came and past, we live in a time that has cars sleaker and smooth, and everything has become hi-tech. Honestly, I like where we have gone, and if we have stuck to tradition the whole world would be dull and boring, just like many peoples grandparents. To put it simple, different time/ different style, get use to it! :cursing:

I love sports, but I hate cluttered uniforms. You don't need all that extraneous :censored: to play the game. If the Yankees can ban trademark logos, so can the NFL. Put your dumbass logo on the field or the gameday program, not the uniform.

Don't knock it until you've tried it :P

Calling somebody "what's wrong with sports" just because they don't agree with you? Why don't you do us all a favor and quit while you're ahead. You've stated your viewpoint, we all know your rationale, and people have either agreed or disagreed with you. More have disagreed with you (myself included), so deal with it.

I have to disagree with you on the celebration thing. 1 have seen the Stanley Cup presented live on the ice twice and it was great. Granted my team the Devils won it both times however in 2003 had the Ducks won game 7 I would have stayed to seen it presented. I think it is great that all of the other sports have taken hockey's lead on that.

As for the Super Bowl, sure it was fine in the 70's to present it in the locker room but back then the top ticket was like $30. Now the worst seat in the house is at least $500 dollars. If I paid $500 for a ticket I would like to see everything including the trophy presentation. I don't know how it hurts your viewing experience at home the camera is still right there up close to the presentation.

Also, you need to learn how to pick up sarcasm.

If I ran the NFL, I would ban advertising on uniforms except for small manufacturer logos and the NFL-related logos.

The only other new thing different than what they have now deals with tributes. There are specific rules in place when it comes to flying a flag at half-staff. Any team disrespecting federal rules would be fined in some capacity.

Fans who attend the game shouldn't speak for all fans. Besides, the true fans were squeezed out of the Super Bowl long ago. It's now a haven for the corporate types. Grown men should not be giving speeches holding their daughters with confetti raining down on them. Put it back in the lockerroom where it belongs.

Well I do, slats7, it makes for great TV.

Call it a slap on the face to tradition, I don't give a crap. I like it.

If I ran the NFL the only major thing I would change would be a weight limit of 275 pounds for any player. Linemen have become way too big to live healthy lives after their NFL career is done. Stringer & Herrion's deaths should have never happened, and I hope that's one way to solve that problem.

As for uniforms... leave the sleeves be. On the Thanksgiving week, give every team an option if they want to wear throwbacks. Teams can only wear an alternate jersey for ONE week per season.

I'd force reebok to make suits & ties for the coaches, to give them an option to wear them if they choose.

Just some ideas of mine.

SwisherHOU for NFL Commissioner!

On-field celebrations are more fan-friendly and interesting than watching the dudes in the locker room half-nekkid and drowning each other with champagne. Then they're asked stupid questions by sportscasters like "How does this feel?"

Seriously, the Steelers need to bring back those standard block numbers. That Bradshaw jersey is the balls.

One of the things I love about the Stanley Cup playoffs is the on ice presentation of the Cup and the players skating around with it--now football players can't skate around--but still they can come close to that atmosphere--

Now--if I ran the NFL?

1-3 downs--if you need 4 downs--then get off the field.

2-110 yard field, and make it wider

3- Add one player per team--on defense this could be an extra DB, and on offense--an extra receiver.

4-Dump the fair catch rule--it's wimpy

5-Add the rouge.

6-18 regular season games.

Of course my tongue is partially in my cheek--I prefer the CFL to the NFL based on the rules--I find it more entertaining--but there's no reason I can't enjoy both.

Still I wouldn't complain if the NFL made any of the changes I listed...

I think all the Super Bowl changes discussed are BS. Keep the logos on the jerseys every year. Its not cluttered. It adds to the atmosphere. Also, this might be because the only Super Bowl that I watched that had the celebration in the locker room was XXIX, but I think they should keep it on the field. I would've been so pissed off last year if I wasn't able to see the celebration, and had to watch it on the jumbotron. Also, that argument that it is now all about the suits is BS. The suits are gone before the end of the game. Every suit I talked to left midway through the 4th quarter. Most everyone stayed till the end, and all the Patriot/football fans stayed for the celebration. Think about how it would be for you if you are a season ticket holder or devoted fan who went to the Super Bowl and your team won, and celebrated in front of you instead of their locker room. Celebrating in front of everyone includes the team's entire community (the fans, players, coaches, management, media, etc.), not just the core group. Also, while we're at dumbing down the Super Bowl back to the 70's, lets just remove all the banners from around the stadium and play in it as is. Its all about atmosphere, and all of the current traits create that atmosphere and the spectatcle that it is.

Imagine walking up to the Super Bowl and seeing the first image. (The second one is one of mine). Also, I'm not sure if anyone saw how they put the team logos in the main light fixtures, but that was a nice touch.

Wow. That was a rather defensive response. I though I laid everything out there pretty respectfully. Regardless, I know we disagree here, but these are interesting topics. Especially since I consider myself a "traditionalist" of sorts. While I love and respect the history and pageantry of the games I love, I understand change is neccessary, and some changes are for the better. For instance, uniforms. Today's uniforms blow away the uniforms of the past in technological terms- the material is streamlined for performance, and the colors are more vibrant (IMO). I'm a big fan of the patches and such because if I wear my Brady SBXXXIX jersey, people will instantly know what game that jersey represents, and 9 times out of 10, I'll get a solid football discussion out of it.

Pertaining to celebrations on the field, it lets the fans see with their own eyes something they never got to before. Watching the Pats celebrate in Heinz Field with a handful of other Patriot fans who made the trip was awesome. The Pats beat their opponent on their turf, and now we had "taken over" Heinz Field. I'll never forget that. I also was at the Rose Bowl 2 years ago watching my alma mater lose to USC. I stuck around and took pictures of USC celebrating the national title, because it's not a sight you see everyday. Celebration still occurs in the lockerroom, the presentation is just on the field. Best of both worlds.

what's the difference if the team gets the trophy on the field or in the locker room. If your watching on TV you still see the same thing, if your watching at the game well then you get to see the trophy presentation happen. How good would John Elway's first super bowl presentation have been if it had happened in the locker room? As for getting the trophy on another team's field well that is the other team's fault. The winning team can't help that they won the deciding game on the road. What are they gonna do, fly back home and then get the trophy? I see in no way on an on field presentation is worse than the locker room presentation, just because that's what they did for for thirty years doesn't mean it's better. They probably used to present it in the locker room because back then they would let fans run on the field, you don't want your star athlete to get knifed by some drunk guy while getting the trophy. But now the fans are kept off the field so an on field presentation works.
