They just need to install electronic signs at the park, like those GetGo gas stations that have LED signs for gas prices. That way they could change all the signs from a computer.

Man, I didn't expect myself laughing out loud while I read your post.

Remember when AT&T was forced to split up? It basically just put itself back together.

If I'm not mistaken, AT&T is owned by cingular. So it could change again!

I think that's only AT&T's former wireless division.

Correct. Which is why I am now a happy Cingular customer instead of a :cursing: Sprint customer.

In order for the Mets' run of 12 losses in 17 games to mean something, the Phillies still had to win 13 of 17.

I thought that SunCom was AT&T's former wireless division, and that Cingular was BellSouth's.

BellSouth and SW Bell (and I think one or two others) merged into Cingular a few years ago.

I've decided to give up hope for all sports teams I follow

I'd like to see Ralph Lauren buy the naming rights for the Giants' ballpark. Then they could call it the Polo Grounds. :D

Cingular was born from the merger of Pacific Bell Wireless and BellSouth's wireless division. AT&T sold off their wireless division (their biggest money maker) to Cingular.

God I love Wrigley Field.   :P

You do realize that is a corporate name (sort of) too, right?

Albeit a stable name that probably won't change again.

It's named for Wrigley the person, not Wrigley the company. If they're not paying naming rights, it's not a corporate name. And I don't see any logos incorporating the gum people. I hate when people claim it's a corporate name.

As for the name of the park, just call it Willie Mays Park or McCovey Park or something. It's not like AT&T needs to get its name out there.

The Polo Grounds name should only stay in NYC. The Giants ran and abandoned the city just like the Dodgers abandoned Brooklyn. They shouldn't get anything. They shouldn't even have the Giants name. Scumbag organization. Just like the Dodgers.

Yup. Cingular is still trying to sell out their stock of a few hundred thousand AT&T cell phones they got when they got the rights to AT&T

So when and who will use those names? The NYC market has Yankees and Mets. No place for more teams there.

This isn't like Baltimore that preserved the nickname of the Orioles or the NFL Browns in Cleveland because those cities knew that they could bring back home new teams.

Doesn't matter if anyone else uses it. It should not leave the city.

I don't see why companies even buy the rights to the names of stadiums. How does it benefit them? It's not like people are going to change their phone service or the bank they go to or the type of juice they drink just because the name of their favorite team's stadium.

Yeah, it's kind of sad. Imagine what baseball would be like now if the Mets, Yankees, Giants, AND Dodgers were all in NYC. It'd be sick.

Well the Mets would not exist had the Giants and Dodgers left, of course. The expansion franchise would've been granted to Los Angeles.

As for the Polo Grounds, no, you can't call the SF Giants' park that. You can take the team across the country, but to call it the Polo Grounds is a joke. AT&T Park is pretty bad too, but the Polo Grounds are Manhattan, not SF.

I can tolerate other arenas and stadia having corporate nomenclature, but I like ballparks being named for their tenant, city, or a relevant person. Now there are some that sound good: The Great American Ballpark rolls off the tongue well and sounds great for the oldest team in the game. Miller Park is perfect. Naming Atlanta's park after Ted Turner is appropriate. But PETCO Park, Ameriquest Field, SBC/AT&T Park, those are terrible.

What would you like the park to be called? AT&T should Do The Right Thing like Edison did and withdraw from the naming rights deal. Pacific Coast Park might be good as it accurately describes where it is, and reminds us of the old PCL. McCovey Park works well too. Giants Stadium, of course, is a no go.

wrong.

the old Pacific Coast League would have become the third major league, with teams like the San Francisco Seals, Oakland Oaks, the original Los Angeles Angels, the original San Diego Padres, Sacramento Solons, and the Seattle Rainiers.

probably other teams Im forgetting about too
