Nats Uniform Changes Coming Nov. 18

I saw posted on another board a while ago that they are going to have a third jersey that's all red with DC on one breast and a number on the other. The hat will be red with the DC logo.

I'm sure Frank Robinson will love it. It will give him flashbacks of this:

Wow. A thread involving political symbolism that hasn't descended into partisan bickering. I'm really impressed by this board and its residents.

Tank hasn't weighed in yet... :P

My hope is that they stay as far away from any political machinations as they possibly can. Everything in this damn area is politics, is baseball not sacred? :D

Btw this is old hat for Notre Dame. Knits Rockne made up George Tip's death bed speech.

But has everyone forgotten, the British wore red, its incorrect for a team representing America to wear red. Please keep the Patriots in blue.

Oops... wrong thread.

Have you forgotten that the United States colors are RED, white, and blue?

Sounds like their BP jersey with a color change and a number added. How half-assed. And as usual, keep up the excellent work BallWonk!

First, this board comes up with the idea for the Nats to use a Gnat as their mascot (I think it was Roger Clemete who originally posted that idea, but don't quote me on that).

Now, we get this idea:

My preference has been that they wear red at home, blue on the road when a Republican is in the White House, the reverse when/if there is a Democrat in the White House. It would be a great local tradition that would completely mystify non-Nats fans.

It's as if this board would be better at running the Nationals than their ownership group is. We come up with classy and original ideas that would really give the franchise a unique and enduring flair.

Oh, believe me, I'd love to have the chance to run this franchise. There'd be a lot more effort expended toward tying in Washington's baseball past (e.g. the shameful way they've treated the DC Hall of Stars) and toward community involvement (e.g. MLB's RBI initiative).

Of course now that I write that I realize that the new ballpark will be heavily skewed to luxe boxes for law firms and lobbyists than to the workaday GS-7/8/9 looking for a fun and relaxing after-work outing.

Ditch the blue. The blue is absolutely nasty, one of the worst jerseys in baseball. Move the red over to the away jersey, add an alternate, and don't change again.

What would you have them wear at home then? Gold?

funny you mention that...I'd read somethin about an incident with a girl who had a homemade necklace confiscated cus it was red, white and blue beads, and said beads were apparently seen as gang symbolism (her reason for wearing it was cus her uncle was/is stationed in Iraq)

not only did the school's powers that be ignore the quoted fact, they also overlooked one other ironic tidbit: their sports nickname is Patriots...guess what colors they wear ;)

Seeing as how Rafael Palmeiro lives an hour up the road?

No. :D

LIVED...up the road. The Orioles sent him home to Texas, and are NOT taking his calls. He won't be calling Camden Yards his home field in 2006.

What about mixing up the red and blue instead of ALL red at home and ALL blue on the road? I proposed this and people thought it was a bad idea. I don't like teams looking completely different between uniform sets.

♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫
