Bleujayone
Well, as Thanksgiving Day Stateside comes around so too comes the tradition of the Thanksgiving high school football game. Over here in Massachusetts it is usually the final game of the regular season for most of us and it also usually the biggest rivalries playing. By this time most spots in the playoffs are already decided so everyone is just playing for pride. The stadium stands usually boast the largrest crowds of the year as everyone is home and off from work, and everyone is in a good mood even if their team is having a bad season. Kickoff isaroun 10AM so that we can go to the games and still have time to be home for the NFL games and dinner. Hot dogs are still served at the games, although in many cases they're turkey dogs.As far as I know, many states are finished with football at this point and are already practicing for the winter sports. Besides Mass, I know some high schools in New Hampshire, Maine, New York, western Penn, and northern California still have this holiday tradition. Does anyone else still have football games on Thanksgiving in their neck of the woods, and if so what's usually involved? We all have our little faults. Mine's in California. DGivens87
we have alot of rivalry games here in RI on Thanksgiving...my high school (East Providence) faces off versus La Salle Academy every Thanksgiving, and usually, a playoff berth is on the line. Unfortunately, EP is not very competitive this year, so we're really just playing for pride. The all-time series is 35-35-1, so needless to say, it's a pretty big rivalry. My buddy Jorge running hard vs. La Salle a couple of years ago! A large cheese pizza, just for me.New England's source for soccer newsAnd hey, I made it to ESPN!

MisterE
In Illinois Thankgiving weekend is state championship game weekend at Memorial Stadium in Champaign. 1A-4A on Friday, 5A-8A on Satuday. They go from 10 AM to 6 PM. Bloomington will end its three years of being the top public school in Illinois after they lost two weeks ago. They lost to a Catholic school every time so that's why I say top public school. Get Ron Santo in the Hall of Fame.
no97
The Friday after Thanksgiving is the "Prep Bowl" in Minnesota. Six state championship games in one day at the Metrodome, starting at 8 a.m. for the 9-Man title, and the Class 5A wraps up with a 9:15 p.m. start time. FYI, the State Semi's are this weekend, also at the Metrodome Fri. and Sat., and the last weekend of outdoor HS football was the state quarterfinals, last weekend...Moose

VitaminD
New Jersey actually interrupts their playoffs for one week so that Thanksgiving games can be played. WM, since this is down your way a little bit: wasn't the Millville/Vineland Thanksgiving Day series interrupted a couple years ago because of a brawl? If so, then their consecutive years streak ended - and Haddonfield/Haddon Heights is the longest running Turkey Day game in NJ (at least South Jersey), and something like the 3rd or 4th longest-running Thanksgiving rivalry game in the US - and I played in a couple of the HMHS/HHHS games way back when. Trying to find answers, but I seem to remember the Millville/Vineland streak was in jeopardy. "Start spreading the news... They're leavin' today... Won't get to be a part of it... In old New York..."In order for the Mets' run of 12 losses in 17 games to mean something, the Phillies still had to win 13 of 17.
slapshot
I'm also in Massachusetts. All it means to me is i'm stuck freezing my @$$ of because i'm obligated to be there for band. Been there.I was in band in high school, and pageantry aside, it sucked to site there in the cold metal stands attempting to be positive for a team that absolutely sucked all 4 years. Now I get to ref those games, and make $84. Much better. Back-to-Back Fatal Forty Champion 2015 & 2016
WJMorris3
Millville/Vineland still goes on, never interrupted. That said, I wouldn't want to go there, too much cops.In any case, I'm considering going to the St. Joe's / Hammonton game, traditionally played the Friday or Saturday after Thanksgiving (since both teams are usually still in the playoffs). FiddySicks
Our season is finished by Halloween every year. But thats usually because we suck and never have any prayer of making the playoffs, but even so, the Nevada State Championship is almost always Mid November. Didn't you guys lose to Normal Community this year?As much as I love downstate football (Alum myself) there are quite a few public school teams in chicago that are much better than anything downstate. I'm sure Maine South, Either Downers Grove, or Naperville Central for example in class 8A.I'll be in Champaign at the State Championship game the day after Thanksgiving to watch the 3A state championship game.
