Hmmm...well, Western CT isn't exactly known for their contributions to the athletic world , but we do have a few....

Only one from my hometown of Woodbury is Rico Brogna, who played with the Tigers, Mets, Phils, BoSox, and Braves over his career.

In the region:

Ryan Gomes (Waterbury)

Carl Pavano (Southington)

Rob Dibble (Southington)

Chris Drury (Trumbull)

Dan Orlovsky (Shelton)

Brad Ausmus (Cheshire)

Brian Leetch (Cheshire....yah, he was born in Corpus Christi, TX, but he grew up here in CT...therefore, we have a more solid claim :P )

Eric Boguniecki (West Haven)

Scott LaChance (Bristol)

Kristine Lilly (Wilton)

Steve Blass (Falls Village)

Two Jets QB's (Jay Fiedler and Vinny Testaverde) grew up within about twenty minutes from me.  So did legendary Knicks coach Red Holzman.  Although born in Georgia, running back Jim Brown grew up right near me as well.  Julis "Dr. J" Irving grew up fifteen minutes away.  If I wanted to include Brooklyn, I could add another 100 names.

What town are you from? Holtzman lived in Cedarhurst if I recall - I'm two towns over (Hewlett). Fiedler went to Oceanside High School and Testaverde is from Elmont, right?

I'm from the Lynbrook side of East Rockaway...

By the way, in Oceanside High School, they show their yearly awards on the wall when you first walk in. Jay Fiedler's name is there for none other than the annual Physical Education Achievement award. :P

Raiders kick and punt returner Chris Carr went to McQueen High School in Reno, Nevada. I remember watching him run over all the other high school teams in the area, including my own.

Gary Bettman the NHL Commisioner went to the other high school in my school district.  I think I remember hearing about a lineman from the Cleveland Browns that went to my high school a few years ago.

Which High School?

From my high school we have a former Cleveland Browns lineman, who now plays for the Minnesota Vikings (Melvin Fowler).

From just down the street from me, theres Penn State FB Matt Hahn.

Also from my high school was pro wrestler Big Dick Dudley (Alex Rizzo).

From nearby Commack is Pete Harnisch.

Then, uh, who are you?

Man, how could I forget Craig Biggio. He was a decent high school football player at Kings Park if my memory of what I read is correct.

lets see, ill try to go in then out

jerramy stevens (seahawks TE) went to river ridge high school, who we beat up on every year in football

i think its mike sellars (?redskins TE/H-B type) that went to north thurston, another lacey school like river ridge

marcus trufant (seahawks CB) went to curtis high school in tacoma, so its like 20 min. away

corey dillon (pats RB) i forgot where he went to school, I think it was Franklin in the seattle area. Funny story, he played where my dad coaches, Tumwater high school, when he was all big and bad all state, and tumwater tore them up and corey dillon flipped the crowd the bird and was ejected.

Ya, Thats about the only ones I know from close to me, but there is Jonathon Stewart(Oregon frosh RB) who I watched/played against for his 4 years at Timberline high school in lacey, and he is a BEAST

The World Basketball Championship, the Davis Cup, Ryder Cup, Iraq: Every day there's further proof that we, as a nation, are not very good at international competition.
