Discrim
from my high school at some point, Giants announcer/ex-big leaguer Duane Kuiper graduated from my high school in the late 60s, and Wizards forward Caron Butler got expelled from Case about 1 or 2 years before I got there, hence he never so much as dribbled up the court in green and gold. former Cincinnati point guard Taron Barker was on our 99 state champs, and that championship team also begat former Western Michigan PG Robby Collum, former Kent State PF Bryan Bedford, UIC guard Rocky Collum and IUPUI guard Maushae Byles (the whole lot of which I went to school with at some point). former Wisconsin punter Sam Veit and former Iowa linebacker Todd Simonsen (at least I think it's him) round it out for now.from Racine as a whole, former Wisconsin standout and local legend Brent Moss, Giants reliever Jack Taschner, Packers lineman Kevin Barry, former Markette center Jim McIlvane and Alex Scales who finally got on an NBA roster (I forget who at the moment)...plop, it seems like he's been tryin for a decade A strong mind gets high off success, a weak mind gets high off bull

spyboy1
Most notable from St. Paul are Dave Winfield, Paul Molitor and Jack Morris. Many NHL players have come from the Twin Cities, but the best known off the top of my head would be Phil Housley, who I saw play in high school. Kess
My high school - Willard High School - has produced two Olympic athletes, Lori Endicott (volleyball setter, '92) and Jason Pyrah (1500-meter runner, '96 and '00). Jason's youngest sister was a good frend of mine in high school.B.J. Flores just missed being the third athlete from Willard to qualify for the Olympics (an injury bumped him from the trials). He is now a professional boxer with a record of 12-0-1 (5 KO).Payne Stewart (golf) is from Springfield and was good friends with an uncle of mine in high school.Baseball scout Tom Greenwade (I know, not an athlete) is also from Willard. He signed Mickey Mantle for the Yankees. Was good friends with a descendent of his in high school and college. There might be a few more I'm forgetting. Nate15
Two Jets QB's (Jay Fiedler and Vinny Testaverde) grew up within about twenty minutes from me. So did legendary Knicks coach Red Holzman. Although born in Georgia, running back Jim Brown grew up right near me as well. Julis "Dr. J" Irving grew up fifteen minutes away. If I wanted to include Brooklyn, I could add another 100 names. What town are you from? Holtzman lived in Cedarhurst if I recall - I'm two towns over (Hewlett). Fiedler went to Oceanside High School and Testaverde is from Elmont, right? infrared41
Current players...Browns QB Charlie Frye, Orlando Pace, and Hugh Douglas from the immediate area. Ben Roethlisberger (sp?) grew up about 60 miles from here. Old timers...Former Browns safety Thom Darden. And a couple pretty big names were from my old hometown, Paul Brown and HOF Pitcher Lefty Grove. Actually Lefty Grove moved there after his playing career and died there does that count? I played little league baseball in the Lefty Grove League.
rockchalk
I live about 20 minutes from Webb City, MO, home of the Wistrom brothers, the most famous of course was Grant, and his brother Tracey was a decent TE for Nebraska about 6 years ago. Rod Smith and James Thrash both went to Missouri Southern, which backs up to the parking lot of the movie theater where I work. Pittsburg State, where I attend has produced Brian Moorman, Bills punter, and Kendall Gammon, Chiefs long snapper, who still lives in the area during the offseason. I've decided to give up hope for all sports teams I follow

Webb's a heck of a town. Both Grant and Tracy also played basketball for Webb and I got to heckle both of them during their high school hoops careers. Grant's trip to Willard was in his senior year and Tom Osborne came down to watch it. Homeboy looked even older in person.
