As someone pointed out, the "unimaginitive" red and black actually is perfect for a team called the Hurricanes, given the red and black nature of the storm flag they use as an alternate logo. I was at the game opening night and from where I was sitting, I had an upside-down view of the logo. I think it looks better that way, the center looks more like a puck.
