Bonds hits a homer this year.......

1. He is a selfish man who will refuse to change the way he hits, which is 2. A dead pull hitter. The man does not hit to left field unless he was fooled by a pitch, which, which is a rare occurance. Bonds has always had unparalleled eyesight. But Bonds has never been anything less than a pull hitter, even when he was the thin, steriod free, 30-30 Barry Bonds.

You must not watch too many Giants games then. Bonds hits a ton of opposite field shots. And BTW, how do you know hes a selfish guy who refuses to change the way he swings? Have you ever been Bond's batting coach?

The Homer was opposite field @ Coors. He basically hit a double in any other ballpark, but was able to lace one out by making solid contact. This is a good sign for all of the people who, like me, don't wish to see Bonds pass any other milestone in the history of the game, unless it is the most hated ballplayer ever stat. None the less, because of Bonds knee, he is unable to really turn his hips and step into pitches, alowing him to drive the ball to Right field. Pitchers have been working him low and away, and to much success, and if the ball he hit today was thrown any place else, it would have been a solid double, as the pitch was well placed low and away. Now people might mention that Bonds should just sit low and away, but that will never be the case because of two reasons.

The guy has hit 700 homeruns. Steroids or not, that is a very difficult task to accomplish. I think his batting style has been a little successful throughout his career....

Just. Pass. Babe.

Why just Babe?

Because he's next.

You said "just" Babe. Why not Aaron? It's obvious.

Are you implying that his comments have anything to do with race? <_<

Well, Barry himself did say a couple of years ago that the only mark he was truly interested in passing was Ruth's, because Ruth was white. Bonds' racism is well-established and deeply-rooted, stemming from his hardscrapple days as the priviliged child of a multimillionaire ballplayer in an elite California community. From that rough start, Barry grew up constantly under the thumb of the white man's oppression, most graphically demonstrated by his constant use of his prolific athletic talents to assure that rules which applied to others would never apply to him. And if they did, reaction to any perceived lack of preferential treatment would be swift and harsh.

If Barry does get a Hall of Fame nod, which he probably will as baseball continues to openly hem and haw about what to do with steroid-laced record books while making sure they don't actually do a thing, I'd like his plaque to be hung adjacent to that of Ty Cobb. For both of their sakes.

As to the poster who said that it doesn't matter if Barry Bonds did steroids, as long as he says he hasn't: Congratulations, you have just penned the dumbest post in the history of this board. By your profoundly illogical logic, every inmate who plead "Not Guilty" to his crimes and has yet to admit guilt should immediately be released. Oh, and by the way, Barry Bonds admitted to using steroids under sworn grand jury testimony. But, by all means, don't let trifling little things called "facts" get in the way of your errant hero worship.

Is it just because he's next, or is there more to this than just passing Ruth for second place?
You said "just" Babe. Why not Aaron? It's obvious.

I think it's funny that HedleyLamarr, recently exposed as a racist, thinks that my "Just pass Babe" comment has more to this than just passing Ruth for second place. The race thing is YOUR hang-up, not mine buddy.

And TCR, if you're looking for a fight, this ain't it, okay. I don't give a damn what color Ruth was, or Aaron is, for that matter. Bonds hit a home run, big damn deal, he's done that 708 times before last night. So what exactly is obvious?

When Bonds passes Ruth, I'll care about the record. Then he'll finally be "chasing" the record. It's not about race, it's about the coverage. He's not chasing Ruth's record. Ruth has no record, therefore there's no Ruth chase. Hank Aaron had to face true adversity (not Barry's self-inflicted) in chasing the homerun record of Ruth's but now the record belongs to the Hammer and he should be the one being chased. Ultimately, the 'race' to Ruth is more intriguing to the media (and racists too, I guess) because Bonds said he wants to surpass only Ruth.

Is race the issue for Bonds? If his goal is to just surpass Ruth, then hell yes it's an issue. He's pretty much said as much without actually saying it. However, Larry Bird, said that he was insulted when a White player tried to defend. White fans didn't say anything, he is still White Basketball God. To me that says that Bird felt White players were inferior. Isn't that racist?

My point? Everyone has selective conscience about racism, especially racists like Hedley Lamarr. The sooner you acknowledge it, the better off you'll be.

Wow. One home run. At Coors, which is a glorified launching pad for baseballs, anyone can hit a homerun, let alone Barry.

It could be possible that it might be his only homer of the year. Think about it. Between the steroids issue, sitting out on most days, and just about every pitcher afraid of pitching to him, you may not hear about him passing Babe for some time.

I think I'll just be glad when he retires. The Giants will still be able to field a team, and the sun will come up in the AM.

Geez, I lived in Cincinnati and we had the deal with Pete and also Marge for years.

"Hitler was good in the beginning, honey." Coincidentally, I happened to be on the phone with the Reds clubhouse mgr the moment she said that on, I think it was '60 Min,' and I said, "You won't BELIEVE what Marge just said."

Now this with Barry.

What's it LIKE in a city like, Milwaukee or Tampa or St Louis..where all they do is play ball?

(Whoops, forgot- St. Louis = McGwire = steroid issue. Never mind.)

Well that's no one's fault but Bonds'. He's the one who decided to cheat. Personally I hope he dosn't pass either Ruth or Aaron. Both those guys got their numbers through skill. Bonds cheated. Plain and simple.

I for one, acknowledge he took steroids and move on...but also wish to point out that said steroids weren't verbotten when he played.

Exactly what I was thinking, Barry Bonds barely hitting an opposite field line drive out of Coors Field is far from evidence that he has his swing back. After the Giants leave Denver today it will be back to reality and daily ESPN reports of Bonds' homerless performances.

At least the McGwire never cried like a little girl when the media asked him questions. Oh and he never had his own TV show to cry on either.

And besides McGwire doesn't matter anymore anyway, he's retired and the only record he had is now *owned* by that cheating self-pitying joke of a professional baseball player.

You know, if McGwire had actually punctuated his statement that way at the hearings, I might have some shred of respect left for him. As it is, though, I got nothin'.

FWIW, Bonds won't be next to Ty Cobb; the Hall of Fame, last I saw, hangs the plaques in order of induction.

That'd be fitting...put two racists beside each other for eternity.
