Baseball Managerial comings and goings

I really would like to see a "player's manager" in Arlington, but I think that the financial constraints are binding the Rangers to Showalter. And it's a shame. He's lost this team, his handling of the pitching staff has been horrible, and he's alienated our star players, with Michael Young saying as much a few days ago.

Ugh.

No players' manager quite like Dusty Baker!

I think he'd do well there. Dallas isn't a baseball town like Chicago is, so the pressure won't be as intense as it is up here, and it's really hot there, so his dark skin makes him better suited to his job than that pasty Showalter.

♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫

As long as you fill up the team with Latin players over 35, Dusty's in business!

Last of the great Dusty Cubs quotes: On deciding before a game that ultra-shaky closer Ryan Dempster (the poor man's Mel Rojas) wouldn't see any action, Baker said putting Dempster on the mound would be like "beating a dead horse to death."

Dude, everybody horribly mismanages pitching staffs. That's just society! I've been getting racist letters. Darren, sit on my lap and tell the media about your Hot Wheels.

A year ago the Pirates had the chance to sign Jim Leyland. They went with Jim Tracy instead.

95 losses later, Tracy should be shown the door. The Pirates need to hire someone with a legitimate track record... a name... if for no other reason than to stop snickering of their fans when their ownership says, "We're trying."

The problem is that their ownership is not trying.

True, but they claim to be - which just draws said snickers from the fans.

But come on really, the Pirates just don't have the talent. There is only so far a manager can take you with such mediocre talent.

And half of Chicago just said "Hello Joe."

You'll be saying "Not again Joe!" a few months into the season.

Why would I be saying that?

He will make the same blatant boneheaded in game decisions over, and over, and over, and over, and over.

Girardi's in game management is absolutely terrible.

One example, he kept putting Alfredo Amezaga in the line-up against lefties, despite the fact Alfredo hit .074 against lefties.

Another, earlier in the year the Mets came down here, the night before Josh Willingham hit a walk off homer, both nights Wagner was clearly out of whack, they guy couldn't find the strikezone. So it's the bottom of the 9th, the first to runners reach as a result of Wagner's wildness. Hanley Ramirez comes up, Girardi tells him to bunt, despite the fact that Hanley is one of the worst bunters on the team and was hitting in the mid 300s during the last 7-10 games. Hanley fouls off the first two attempts, and Girardi KEEPS THE BUNT SIGN ON with two strikes. Hanley Ks and Wagner shuts us down. After that AB a new Wagner was out on the mound.

Now yes, Hanley Ramirez should know how to bunt BUT it was common knowledge that he sucked at it. A manager should know a player's strengths and weaknesses and factor that into his in game decision making. He failed to do that countless times this season.

There was a line circulating throughout opposing clubhouses regarding his in game management, it was called "pulling a Joe."

Dusty Baker back in San Fran(hey he lead them to the World Series, and lost).

If that were to happen, I would cease to be Giants fan. There would be a riot in the streets if he were to set foot back in ATT Park in Orange and Black. Id rather see ICS and Puckguy manage the Giants.:P

Oh, I didn't say they had talent... but they still need a 'name' manager, if for no other reason than to give an appearance other than "we don't give a :censored: if we win or lose."
