It looks like there will finally be a Washington Wizards alternate jersey

I'm waiting until I see in in actual photo before I cme to a conclusion. Part of me sees it as promising, another part of me thinks it's ugly. I dunno.

The part of me that thinks it's ugly is my eyes.

Wow, I remember a time when people tried to create nice looking jerseys to be envied and not garbage to be laughed at and worn a few times.

The two-tone reminds me too much of 1992 Virginia Commonwealth or 1981 Kansas State. The jerseys are supposed to be unveiled on one of the local DC morning shows today.

I posted this in the 2K thread; I'll add it here as well.

And, here's a pic of an actual replica of the Wizards jersey:

The real jerseys will be unveiled later today.

I must say: I don't like the wordmark they used (basically, the Wizards' primary wordmark, put on a slant). I prefer the curvier Wizards wordmark on their primary jerseys, with the larger "Wu-Tang" W, and the basketball/crescent moon as an accent for the "I." To me, if they were set on using the primary wordmark, they should have kept it horizontal.

A few other discrepancies:

-the replica has a v-neck (which I prefer to the standard neck shown in the NBA 2K pic)

-the replica is missing accent stars on the shoulders and above the name plate.

Overall, I like the jersey, but I agree with most that I'd prefer to see it paired with gold shorts, instead of black.

One question. Why does everyone seem to love this jersey, yet hate the Kings gold alt?

The Kings alt looks re-freakin-tarded with the one sleeve stipes and mismatched font. At least this has some kind of symmetry to it.

Well, for one, the black and white accents look far better with the vegas gold than the washed out purple used on the Kings' alt.

Besides, the Wizards' jersey may look a lot worse when we see an authentic jersey being worn by an actual player. I'm sure the Mavs' silver jerseys looked good on paper. :therock:

I guess some teams look to an older uniform for inspiration and some look to pattern themselves off of the Harlem Globetrotters. If it has the different colored shorts, all I can think of is a practice uniform or HS girls basketball for some reason. I think the reason people dump on the Kings is because their basic colors were purple, black and silver and then gold came out of nowhere.

Um, where did the gold come from for these Wizards jerseys? The team colors are black, blue and bronze. Old Bullets' colors were red, white and blue. No gold, from what I've seen.

Both Washington and Sacramento are guilty of adding a color nowhere in the scheme for an alt uniform.

I love the design and the concept of these jerseys. I just hate the color. If they were in the old Bullets' colors, or even something more comarable to the Wizards' normal scheme, I think they'd be a hit.

But black and gold make no sense.

So are Dallas and Denver then. I know the Mavs used to wear green but their current set doesn't have a hint of green in it, and their alt is green. And the Nuggets have a navy blue alt, with no trace of navy blue in their regular sets.

So, change for change's sake, I suppose.

Might that be because navy was/is the "trendy" color? I mean, after all, at the time they made the switch, so was columbia (or baby blue or powder blue or Carolina blue or whatever shade of blue anyone wants to call it). SO popular, in fact, one team basically jacked the Nuggets' color palette (ahem--GRIZZLIES!), and then another team picked up two of said colors (ahem--JAZZ!). So let's see...that's three NBA teams and one NFL team (Titans) in the trendy Tar Heel color scheme. And now with the Thrashers going "full-time true blue", that trend has even spread to hockey. I'm telling you, the next switch the Toronto Blue Jays make (which, based on their history of re-branding efforts, should be in about another three years or so) better not be columbia/navy. (Just had to throw that out there for some reason...no disrespect intended)...

So what team might be the first to put purple and orange together, or teal and maroon, or sky blue and red-orange and orange-yellow, or cobalt, brick red, and tan together, or brown and yellow-gold (oh wait--the Denver Broncos and San Diego Padres already did that), or something crazy like aqua and lemon yellow or purple and green (wait, the Bucks did that already too), or ash gray and tan?

I don't know about you all, but I'm ready for some more color variety in pro sports...
