With the Arena in Brooklyn tied up in red tape, the Nets are starting to talk with Newark about joining the Devils at the Rock.

I wouldn't call this the Nets having talks. Nothing different than Seattle investors trying to buy the Sonics before they can leave. I'll believe it when I see it.

That's about the size of it, and it has about as much chance of succeeding.

Newark had an opportunity to keep the Nets in Jersey. They decided not to.

Where there is smoke there is fire, and this will eventually happen, that Brooklyn Arena will never be built.

It's a bit different as there is a brand new arena that opened in October already in existance in Newark. No building of a new arena has to be done one already exist. This is trying to establish contact and a relationship with the Ratner group that when the time comes for Ratner to finally realize that the Brooklyn deal won't happen because of the lawsuits and rising cost and he goes to sell that Ratner sells the team to the Devils and Newark.

Brooklyn is not going to happen. For those who don't know the situation the current estimated cost of the Brooklyn Arena (which hasn't even broke ground yet) is 900 million. That is getting close to what the Yankee and Mets stadiums are costing and each of those stadium will hold about 50,000 people instead of 20,000. No 20,000 seat arena is going to be finical successful costing close to a billion dollars. Especially one in an area where currently 4 similar size arenas exist (and none would be closing), including 1 Brand new one (Prudential Center) and MSG. Once the realization the this project is doomed because of the high cost (not to mention the current lawsuits) Ratner will sell the team (as the Brooklyn project was the only reason why he bought the team. What Vanderbeek and the Devils hope is by establishing early contact that Ratner decides to just cut his losses and sells to them.

While I think it is all but assured that Brooklyn will fail and Ratner will end up selling the team it isn't guaranteed that Vanderbeek and the Devils would be able to buy them. It's obvious that Ratner does not care if the team stays in the area or not once he is out so he will put the team on the open market and just sell the team to the highest bidder. You can bet that cities like Seattle and Kansas City would come in with high bids that could price the Devils out. While they would certainly like to have the Nets in order to fill dates at 'The Rock' they probably would go chasing the price because as long as the Nets don't stay at the Izod Center and move out of area it still would be beneficial to the Devils and Prudential Center.

I think that sums it up well. I wont believe the Brooklyn Arena will happen until the steel is rising and that is way off now, its well behind schedule all ready and the more lawsuits the more red tape the closer the Nets get to doing the right thing and come to Newark.

Wrong, wrong, and wrong again.

LeBron will be a Cavalier for life.

Until he gets fed up and goes to a place with the capital to win. It's ok, the suffering is good for you.

So correct, in a nutshell, Ratner and his ownership group cannot get financing for the project. The subprime mortage mess has placed interest on municipal bonds to as much as 22%! Other large construction projects (hotels, casinos, and skyscrapers in major cities) are also in peril due to the high interest rates. Plus, here's the list of over $2 billion subsidies Ratner wants:

Subsidies Ratner Seeks for Brooklyn Move

He has no real choice but to talk to the city of Newark.

Also note that the plan for NYI was severly downscaled in late 2007 and they are having the same issues.

Well, once HE does, it'll be a story. Until then...there's no smoke, there's no fire, there's no story.

Once again wrong. He'll be a max free agent (Larry Bird rule). That means no other team in the NBA can offer LeBron more money then the Cavs can. As for capital research Cavs owner Dan Gilbert. He's got more then enough money to pay LeBron. He didn't buy the Cavs just to let LeBron walk away.
