I was at the Phillies game last night. Standing room only ticket. But that was the most fun i've ever had at a sporting event. The atmosphere there and the noise was incredible.

I didn't know they were offering those for post season! Gameday sale only, right? Goddammit - i'd have been at every game!

Right now all I have is e-mails in the inbox of every bogus e-mail account I set up to enter the post-season non-season-ticket-holder lottery informing me that I didn't win.

We bought them from one of my mom's co-workers because they couldn't go. But they had them during the week so it wasnt just gameday sales.

You know what impresses me about the Rays? They fall down to the Sox early today 2-0. Kasmir looks bad, REALLY bad, and this one could've been over before it began. But no, they don't let the fact that they are down a game and two runs in the second bother them. They regain composure and now have a 5-3 lead over the Sox and Beckett, who is one of the best post season pitchers in the game today (Albeit a bit off today). Every time the Rays face a challenge they do something i've never seen a young team do before. They make it look like they've been there before. I still believe that overall playoff experience is overrated, but to be on a team that has NEVER even had a glance at the playoffs before now and to be battling a team that has proven to be winners is really something.

EDIT: Pfft, nevermind.

I really wish Francona would learn how to manage a bullpen. I'd be interested in knowing what he saw out of Beckett that would suggest he should've gone out there for the 5th inning. The postseason isn't a time to send your guy out so he can qualify for the win.

Sadly for Rays fans, Maddon hasn't been any better tonight.

At least the Rays better relievers have already been chased from the game.

Can anybody tell me how it's possible for Varitek to be late on a 78 MPH pitch?

If you're going to take 0 for Ellsbury out of the game in the bottom half of the inning anyway, why not pinch hit Sean Casey for him?

Francona's inability to manage a game is astounding, sometimes..

How does Timlin even make the ALCS roster? He must have dirt on somebody...

The rookie Price gets that strike three on Kotsay but the 18 year veteran Timlin can't buy a call.

edit: That's a heartbreaker... that game was gift wrapped. Whatever... is what it is.

I didn't watch the game because I had work, but why should an 18 year veteran get a call that a rookie shouldn't?

Well, you're absolutely right -- and it's an argument made out of frustration with the umpiring in that final frame -- but the point was that if Price is getting that strike 6 inches off of the plate, Timlin should get it too -- just if one's getting the call, you'd think the established veteran would be the one since that's, unfortunately, a big part of the game of baseball, but he was the one getting squeezed. Hell, at least Timlin's was framed nicely. ^_^

Timlin was perfectly capable of losing that game for the Sox without getting squeezed by the ump. ^_^

But... game should've never been in that position. Sox bullpen pitched well enough to win this game in 9 if Francona had a clue what he was doing when it comes to in-game managing. Beckett pitching the fifth was beyond stupid.

And hopefully Ellsbury finds his ass firmly planted on the bench for the remainder of this series.

At this point, my point of contention is hardly with the umpire -- it's that Tito's managed this into a 1-1 series when it could very easily be 2-0 heading home.

I don't think they're gameday only sales. I'm honestly not even sure how he got the tickets. If I'm not mistaken, playoff tickets are given out in some sort of lottery.

Philliesphan, is it still $30 for Standing Room in the NLCS, or did it jump?

So as I was sitting late last night/early this morning watching the end of the game I noticed something that has not a shred of relevance to anything: Papelbon makes some goofy looking faces. I cannot be the only one who sees this, can I? It looks like the guy has been eating lemons in the bullpen with that puckered face.

And the relevant part of this post; baseball games take too long.

I have a friend I go to school with out here who is from Philly and she was picked in the lottery for the NLCS and gave the tickets to her dad, so yeah, a lottery is how they do it. I think all teams do it that way because thats how I got A's World Series tickets back in 06 ( )

The question was about the SRO tickets, which during the regular season are usually available on gameday. I put in >20 entries in the lotteries for the NLDS/NLCS and WS. Now I have 20 GMail accounts that I'll never use. Oh well.

Bit of a brush back war going on (no one hit though). My question is where was the retaliation when Torre was Yankees manager and Pedro and Schilling were throwing at Jeter? Still nice to see happen. And that is a a situation when you do fire back when you are up by a comfortable margin.
