MLB Playoffs

I was at the Phillies game last night. Standing room only ticket. But that was the most fun i've ever had at a sporting event. The atmosphere there and the noise was incredible.

I didn't know they were offering those for post season! Gameday sale only, right? Goddammit - i'd have been at every game!

Right now all I have is e-mails in the inbox of every bogus e-mail account I set up to enter the post-season non-season-ticket-holder lottery informing me that I didn't win.

I don't think they're gameday only sales. I'm honestly not even sure how he got the tickets. If I'm not mistaken, playoff tickets are given out in some sort of lottery.

Philliesphan, is it still $30 for Standing Room in the NLCS, or did it jump?

I have a friend I go to school with out here who is from Philly and she was picked in the lottery for the NLCS and gave the tickets to her dad, so yeah, a lottery is how they do it. I think all teams do it that way because thats how I got A's World Series tickets back in 06 ( )

The question was about the SRO tickets, which during the regular season are usually available on gameday. I put in >20 entries in the lotteries for the NLDS/NLCS and WS. Now I have 20 GMail accounts that I'll never use. Oh well.

This doesn't relate to the SRO query, but to the lottery portion, instead... I'm fairly certain the Rockies didn't do a lottery for World Series tickets last year. I know a girl who managed to get tickets to game three and invited me to the game, which I would have done if it didn't mean quitting my job and flying out to Colorado on short notice. But I asked her how she got them, considering the demand, she said she had her whole family online trying to get through and buy them for her.

I also saw a guy on the Sox message board I frequent that did the create 20 e-mail addresses thing and put a random physical address for each of them. Ended up winning the opportunity to purchase tickets, but was told the tickets would only be sent to the physical address -- tried to screw the system and ended up getting screwed. ^_^

Honestly, would the Rockies have the need for a lottery? I never thought of them as a team that would have a large season ticket base (or a large fan base at all.)

Well, the Rockies hold the record for attendance in a season, and are one of only a very small amount of teams to sell out an entire season -- I think in the strike shortened season they were on pace to break their own record. Their fanbase isn't overly large at this point and they're something of an afterthought here in Colorado, but that's a result of their lack of success. Even in their bad years they've been middle of the league in attendance. If they were consistently good they'd probably be a top 5 team in attendance every year/

That said, they sold all of their World Series tickets out in three hours (54,000 per game) and according to an article I found really quickly, were bombarded with 8.5 million hits in 90 minutes, which overwhelmed their system and caused it to collapse.

The standing room was $40 and I think for the 400 level it was $50.

Seriously? That's cheaper than what I remember cheap seats being at the Vet in '93! FWIW - I entered the playoff lottery that year too... by actually buying and mailing post cards. Of course, that was pre-internet.

5-0 Rays.

ITE88, You're placing all the blame on Varitek?

Well, two runs are on him in this one, with the past ball and his inability to even put the ball in play when the Rays were willing concede a run. 4-1 is a lot more manageable than 5-0.

That said, I'm not putting the blame for this one on him, they're getting great hacks on Lester.

But the guy is awful -- he's a liability. a .182 OBP in the playoffs so far. Can't hit with RISP, can't do anything. Same can be said for Ellsbury...

edit: I really don't understand how Francona can actually believe he's fielding the best team possible. There needs to be some lineup changes if the Sox want to have a chance in this series. Ortiz moved down, Ellsbury taken out, Lowrie starting over Cora...

For me, it's over. During all the season the Rays could manage the Red Sox. Now in the time of truth, they also manage the Red Sox.

The Rays are getting the World Series ticket this time, they are reediting the 1969 fair tale of the Mets.

Personally I feel that winning this game is just as big for the Rays as last game was. They've had issues winning at Fenway all year but have managed pretty well at home. I think if they can grab two games in Boston this series is over, and being up 5-0 in the 6th is a big step in the right direction.

BUT. Don't count out Boston just yet, they're Boston.

The Rays are 6 outs away from guaranteeing to at least go back to Tampa with a 2-2 series. 8-1, bottom of the 8th.

Wow.

Three games in Boston. So it could still be 3-2 Boston at that point.

Oh, this is the 2-3-2 format? Wow, I thought that wasn't until the WS.

But yeah, they've got to be feeling good about themselves right now. They just put up an 8-spot in a game where Lester was starting.

EDIT: Make that 9. Wow.

It's nice to learn it from you... I'm a diehard Red Sox fan since 1993 and each loss always hurts me.

But I'm not just pessimistic when I said it was over. Despite that during 2008, the Rays won the season series against the Red Sox 10-8 and in those 18 games, the visiting team won only three times (it's from Wikipedia), last September, the series against the Rays was awful for the Sox: the Red Sox could take the first place and the Rays responded very well: beat them accordingly. And they could keep their momentum until now.

Francona must do now a major surgery in the next lineup.
