Hopeful trade: A-Rod for Juan Uribe of the White Sox.

Seriously, Alex Gordon, Zach Grienke and David Dejesus for JJ Hardy and Corey Hart? Even tossing in LaPorte, that trade would be laughed at by the Royals. Get serious.

You are a disillusioned fan if you believe laporta, hart and hardy wouldnt get that package. Gordon and Dejesus are a step down from Hardy and Hart. You have to move Gordon anyway in a year or so and now you have Jacobs plus 3 other 1B. Guillen will be gone or run himself out of town.

I think it honestly helps both teams. We got CC for Laporta but it isnt enough for Grienke. Hell I would throw back Parra

If I was a Royals fan I would want players I know can produce. Too many ?? in the lineup with Aviles (is he the next Berroa), Butler, Gordon. Must be willing to give talent to get talent.

If on your relief pitcher you mean Jeremy Jeffress, I'd have to say that you'll be lucky to see him early this season, if at all in 2009. He just got called up to AA from Brevard (where I worked this past season) late in the 08 season. He seemed like he had the stuff, but I don't think the Brewers are going to rush him up quick. Someone I saw this past season to watch as a reliever would be Omar Aguilar.

Hopeful trade: A-Rod for Juan Uribe of the White Sox.

Remember Laporta got traded to the Indians in the Sabathia deal

I'll bite for the Angels

Position Players

C - Napoli, Mathis, Bobby Wilson

1B - Teixiera, Morales

2B - Kendrick, S. Rodriguez

SS - M. Izturis, E. Aybar

3B - Figgins, B. Wood, M. Brown

LF - G. Anderson, Matthews Jr.

CF - Hunter, Willits

RF - Guerrero

Rotation

Lackey

Santana

Saunders

Weaver

Adenhart

Bullpen

Arredondo

Shields

Speier

Escobar(upon return)

Bulger

Moseley

O'Day

Unfortunately, I don't see much happening other than Teixiera coming back. I'd love to see some more bullpen help and another starter to replace Garland, but Teixiera should be the top priority in Anaheim. I listed over the roster limit, obviously, but I'd expect a bunch of these guys to bounce around the minors and the show often.

Why not?

2009 Texas Rangers

C - Taylor Teagarden

1B - Chris Davis

2B - Ian Kinsler

3B - Adrian Beltre

SS - Michael Young

LF - Marlon Byrd

CF - Josh Hamilton

RF - Nelson Cruz

DH - Hank Blalock

Bench: German Duran, Travis Metcalf, Brandon Boggs, veteran backup catcher.

Starting Rotation:

Ben Sheets

Andy Sonnanstine

Homer Bailey

Matt Harrison

Eric Hurley

Brandon McCarthy

Bullpen:

C.J. Wilson

Frank Francisco

Joaquin Benoit

Josh Rupe

Damaso Marte

How you get there:

- Sign Ben Sheets. Being from Louisiana, with a new connection to the team through new pitching coach Mike Maddux I think puts the Rangers in the driver's seat for him.

- Sign Damaso Marte. Put together an incentive-based one-year deal.

- Trade David Murphy for Andy Sonnanstine. It was recently reported the Rays were interested in this deal, and I think you make it, even if you need to grease the wheels with a prospect or two.

- In a three-way deal, you move Kevin Millwood to a team that could use an innings-eater, which Millwood can very easily be, and move the prospects to the rebuilding Mariners in exchange for Beltre who provides power and gold-glove defense at third.

- Try to pry Homer Bailey from the Reds for Gerald Laird. The Reds have soured on him, calling him uncoachable and basically worthless, but his upside is enough to take a risk. Maybe letting Nolan Ryan mentor him would be the best thing for him.

- Deal Saltalamacchia for a pitcher who's not quite there yet. With this much younger pitching right on the verge of being major league players, you can take a guy who's still a year or two away.

- Move Frank Catalanatto in basically a salary relief move.

I think Texiera will be headed for the east coast possibly Baltimore or the Yankers. He and most of his family are from there and I think he will want long term big money contract this time around.

Who are the free agents? Someone provide me a list.....

The Braves should go after a power-hitter and a couple of dependable starting pitchers. Re-sign Hampton for cheap and only a year or two. Do what it takes to complete a trade for Jake Peavy. The team can use Matt Diaz and Brandon Jones platoon in left field and try their luck in the Matt Holliday sweepstakes next offseason, as the team likely isn't a legit World Series contender in 2009. I liked what I saw from Brian Anderson in the last month of the season, as he looks like he can handle leadoff duties, so let him be the starting CF. Francoeur can't have a worse season than he had in 2008. The infield seems pretty set, I don't think any of them are free agents.

I'd love if we could sign Cesar Izturis -- If he wouldn't mind platooning with Lugo/Lowrie, or just being the next Alex Cora. His defense is outstanding. Get rid of Timlin (done already I think) and at least try for Sabathia or Teixeira or Peavy -- if it doesn't work it's alright. I'm iffy on Burnett but there's no doubt about his ability. Truthfully I want to see Crisp hand around another year as a 4th outfielder but he may not want to, so see what you can get. I heard Scott Olsen rumors. I think that would be a fantastic deal, however I'm not sold on Ellsbury in center -- but I think he could handle it. Oh and Varitek would be serviceable for a year or two more, but as a backup/mentor. I drool over Teagarden, not as much over salty. However I'm not expecting to get either. Hey Rangers, there's this great player you would love. His name is Julio Lugo... :P

BRING BACK SEAN CASEY!!!!!!

Here is my ideal, pie-in-the-sky lineup for the Sox:

1. CF Ellsbury

2. 2B Pedroia

3. LF Bay

4. 1B Teixeira

5. 1B Youkilis

6. DH Ortiz

7. RF Drew

8. 3B Lowell

9. SS Lowrie

10. C R. Martin

(Yep, that's 2 first basemen and this is Little League! :D)

Bench: 1B Casey, SS Izturis, 3B Varitek, CF Crisp

Rotation:

1. Beckett

2. Sabathia

3. Matsuzaka

4. Lester

5. Wakefield

Bullpen: Delcarmen, Masterson, Papelbon, Lopez, Aardsma, Torres!

Slightly More Realistic:

1. CF Ellsbury

2. 2B Pedroia

3. LF Bay

4. 1B Youkilis

5. DH Ortiz

6. RF Drew

7. 3B Lowell

8. SS Lowrie

9. C Dusty Brown

Bench: 1B Casey, C Varitek, SS/IF Izturis, SS Lugo, OF Baldelli/Kotsay(?)

Rotation:

1. Beckett

2. Lester

3. Matsuzaka

4. Olsen (Burnett?)

5: Wakefield

Bullpen: Delcarmen, Lopez, Aardsma, Masterson, Papelbon, Buchholz

Whew. I can't wait.

Also: Sign Manny and Nomar and Pedro!!!!!!

Lets see your moves!!

My hopeful trade: Mike Cameron for Nate McLouth. I am surprised/upset that the Brewers resigned him (very happy Gagne is a free agent, though). But with the Pirates eliminating everything they have to contenders last season, Nate McLouth, a great franchise player, might not want to play for such a hopeless team.

Also, I can see the Brewers getting Jake Peavy... he's listed seven teams for whom he'd accept a trade, and while the Brewers weren't on it, they'll deal if the price is right. Peavy should want to play for a contender, and he already listed the Astros, Cardinals, and Cubs as possibilities. He obviously likes the NL Central... so I hope we keep Sabathia, but I predict we'll get Peavy and no Sabathia or Sheets. (Sabathia to the Dodgers, Sheets to the Blue Jays are my predictions.)

OK, I'll give it a shot with the Jays.

Needs:

Aaron Hill to fully recover from post-concussion syndrome

A.J. Burnett or Replacement

Designated Hitter

Shortstop

Better production at the corners

What I would semi-realistically do:

Re-sign Burnett (although the likelihood of that happening is slim in my opinion)

Sign LF Raul Ibanez and move Adam Lind to 1B/DH with Travis Snider

Sign SS Orlando Cabrera & 3B Casey Blake to take over the left infield

Trade Lyle Overbay & Scott Rolen for nothing to dump salary

Here's what the lineup would be:

1. SS Orlando Cabrera

2. 2B Aaron Hill

3. RF Alex Rios

4. CF Vernon Wells

5. DH Adam Lind

6. LF Raul Ibanez

7. 3B Casey Blake

8. 1B Travis Snider

9. C Rod Barajas

SP Halladay

SP Burnett

SP McGowan

SP Litsch

SP Purcey (I feel he's ready)

RP Janssen

RP Downs

RP League

CL Ryan

I think that's a playoff team.

I was hoping the Cards would go after a guy like FURCAL. Think he would fit well atop their order. They could use teh speed too

The '09 Jays, in my dream world.

>> Trade BJ Ryan for Andy Sonnanstine

Just saw an article today that the Rays have Sonnanstine and Edwin Jackson on the block to make room for David Price. Gives the the Rays a legitimate closer, and the Jays a reliable 3-4 starter and dumps the last 2 years of Ryan's contract.

>> Trade Adam Lind and David Purcey for Chone Figgins

Lind has been passed by Snider as the LF/1B/DH of the future, but still has trade value. Angels have Brandon Wood waiting in the wings at 3B, and could get Lind to take over at first if they don't resign Tex. Figgins gives the Jays a legit leadoff hitter and stolen base threat.

>>Sign a 2-3 starter, like Brad Penny, Derek Lowe, or Ben Sheets

and the big splash...

>>Sign Manny Ramirez or Adam Dunn

They've been rumoured to be interested. Throw 3 years, $70-80M at Manny, obviously less at Dunn.

1. 3B Figgins

2. RF Alex Rios

3. CF Vernon Wells

4. DH Ramirez/Dunn

5. LF Travis Snider

6. 1B Lyle Overbay

CL Brandon League - Annointed the new closer. Was dynamite late last year.

You really think the Rays are gonna trade within the division right after they actually won it? No way they make a deal that adds another AL East threat into the mix.
