I applaud David Wright, actually.

It would be very easy for him to skip this last month, seeing as how the Mets are well out of contention, and that he can use a legit injury excuse. He's showing his full mettle to his team, that he's a professional. Perhaps he's sending a message to his teammates, both injured as well as their replacements, that he's committed to the team 100%.

I don't care if the helmet looks awful...if it's helpful to limiting the number of concussions and skull fractures, I'm all for it.

Wright shouldve sat out the rest of the season, if only to save him the embarrassment of looking like the Great Gazoo from the Flintstones

Why do you have a picture of Harrold Reynolds? (You had to see MLB.net to get it as Harrold put on the new helmet and really looked like Gazoo.)

So Brad Penny, the Giants fifth starter who they're basically paying nothing for, just shut out the Phillies at home. Never thought I'd say this in a million years but, GO METS.

The Phils have scored only 11 runs in their past 6 games, and it's not likely to get any better tonight. Penny was great, but the Phils have also been in a pretty big slump. I still don't want to see SF in the first round, but don't feel as bad as a month ago.

huge win against Lincecum

The Phils took 2 of 3 in a series at CBP where they scored 1 run, 0 runs and 2 runs....

Atlanta and Florida split their 4-game series, so the Phils are now 10 up in the loss column, heading to Houston...

Pedro pitched his A$$ off tonight against his younger version. Wow!

The Giants did not need Brad Penny, they needed a bat(s). Bringing up Buster posey is meaningless.

You never can have enough good pitching. If you can get a Brad Penny at the back of your rotation. You take him.

But your right about them needing a bat. Hell, they need two...isn't Barry Bonds still available? :P

If the Giants don't make the playoffs this year I'll be pretty bummed, but considering they weren't even supposed to be here right now I'm proud. If they don't figure out a way to bring in a HUGE bat during the off season, then I'll be pissed. IMO the Giants are one, maybe two pieces away from being a serious World Series type team. But they absolutely need a huge hitter.

I don't know if anybody here saw the play at the Cardinals @ Pirates game a few weeks ago where a fan tumbled over the railing near 1B reaching for a foul ball cutting up his face and giving a scare as far as neck injuries go. The story is that Albert Pujols and the Pirates 1B coach Perry Hill rushed over to the scene immediately. Albert mostly helping the man, Hill comforting the man's son. That son was there for his 21st birthday all the way from Buffalo and has Down's Syndrome. His dad just wanted to get that ball for him. It was purely a coincidence (or more perhaps), but Pujols has an adopted Daughter (his wife's biological daughter) who has Down's and does lots of charity work in that area.

Anyways, that's the lead up, and here's the follow up story, and I thought it was very much worth sharing. It's a recommended read, but if you can do it without tearing up a little, you're stronger than I.

Just another reason why Big Albert is one of my favorite players.

Phillies take 2 of 3 vs Atlanta and Lidge might be regaining his 2008 form...

ROTFL. This is what he's done all year. He'll be shelled hard by Wednesday.

Only off by three days.

Lidge has now blown 10 games. His fastball has no movement, and if the slider isn't on, batters tee off on him. This time Kaz Matsui dealt the save-blowing and game-blowing base knock.

I was watching this game from For Pete's Sake on Front & Christian (first time there... cool local spot), and openly rooting against Lidge (which almost got me punched in the mouth.) Cholly is so loyal (which I've come to realize is a good thing... but not in September / October) that it will take Lidge getting repeatedly shelled for him to finally make a move (or for Amaro to force a move, which I honestly think he would do.) I don't think Myers was "on" tonight, but it's his first game back so that's OK. He remains the most logical candidate to replace Lidge, who should be placed on the "mentally unable to perform" list.

This might come as a shocker to a very very few.....

Brewers are WELL DONE! Time to start planning for next year. Once the post season is set, I will see who to pull for. Hoping it's the Rockies to keep it in the MillerCoors family. If not them then whoever is not the Cards, Sox, or Yankees!
