The Jets acquired Santonio Holmes and his baggage from the Steelers for a 5th rounder

Does Steinbrenner own the Jets now or something??

Whatever is going on with Gang Green, I like it! B)

Santonio Holmes will be suspended for the first 4 games, though.

Also, Big Ben will not be charged in his case. That being said, I think he should be suspended. This isn't his first time being in a situation like this, & it's not like he's been staying out of trouble. I'd say that's a violation of the conduct policy that Goodell's been pushing like crazy. That's just me though.

It's not just you. I think he should, and will, be suspended. As for how long, I'm not sure. The guy is a huge D-bag and I think Goodell would love to show the rest of the league that he has no patience for this kind of stuff damaging the NFL's image anymore. 3 games? For a top 5 QB thats pretty major. I think the Rooneys would be totally on board. I'm guessing that it wouldn't go many more than that, but I wouldn't care if it did.

Based on what? To play devil's advocate, maybe the guy has done absolutely nothing at all.

Didn't Ben Roethlisberger learn from Tiger Woods that it's not exactly convincing when you read an apology? He certainly looked like a drunken frat boy at the "presser."

Aside from buying underage girls alcohol and having sex with them in bar bathrooms? Everybody in Pittsburgh knows a Ben story. See him down on the South Side (80+ bars and clubs on a 20 block stretch) doing the same type of things. He is basically a castmember of Jersey Shore with less product in his hair. He has a reputation of being aggresive with women.

This is the part that's kinda difficult for me to understand. If you're a two time Super Bowl winning quarterback with the home town team, why would you even need to be aggressive with women? It sounds like Pittsburgh has a pretty huge party scene, and I'd assume that the majority of people in that area could probably spot Ben Rothlesberger in a a crowd pretty easily. The guy could probably damn near have his pick of women anyway, why does he even need to be so aggressive?

Actually after some more thought, that may be what caused the problem in the first place...

That is exactly what caused the problem in the first place...well that and Pittsburgh tends to idolize its sports figures as if they were Greek gods sometimes. So--oh, and dude made it known right after that first SB win he could have his pick of the (kitty) litter...which either says something about him or something about Pittsburgh girls...you decide. :P

Does the place have a huge party scene? You betcha...and Carson Street is but a piece of it (the South Side stretch alluded to earlier). Same thing with Oakland a.k.a. "College Town"...being that Carlow, UPitt, Carnegie Mellon, and Chatham are pretty much all right next to each other (with a campus of Robert Morris as well as Duquesne not even a good ten minutes back towards downtown). I haven't even mentioned the Strip District on the back side of downtown (though it's nowhere near what it used to be back in the day). Your boy Ben's been spotted in all these places...and like Zaps said, err'ybody done either heard or told a story or two about Big Ben. (To be fair, he's far from the only Steeler who partakes in this type of activity...but those other Steelers aren't the franchise QB, either.)

EDIT: about Holmes...a friend of mine back in Pittsburgh had an interesting way of putting it...he says Santonio got Plaxico'd.

Goodell is really between a rock and a hard place here. In some ways, his life would be easier if Ben had been charged and even convicted. Now you have a guy that, while there is not compelling evidence committed sexual assault (twice), but is behaving in an embarrassing way.

But the rock and hard place come in with race. It's the elephant in the room. No suspension = favoring whites. Big suspension = "over-compensation" or "PC". If he hits it right in the middle, he'll probably get it in smaller doses from both sides.

I'd say this is somewhat analogous to the Vikings sex boat scandal. Considering I'm a Viking fan, I payed very little attention to that story. But the punishments were not huge. However, I think that was pre Goodell.

EDIT: I just read more about it (I'd been tuning it out) and the giving booze to underagers, etc. is a bit apples and oranges from the Vikes. I'm definitely leaning toward some kind of suspension.

Funny that you bring that up, because I've been getting hit up all morning (as well as half of yesterday) from all my people back in the 'Burgh...and apparently, there's a lot of grumbings going on in Pittsburgh right now along those same lines--except the target of a lot of those grumblings is not Goodell, but rather, the Rooneys, now that they've dealt Holmes (and rekindled memories of the Plax situation several years ago in the process), which also doesn't help Goodell at at all (in conjunction with the announcement of Holmes' suspension). And how here he is, about to have this meeting with Roethlisberger, while mulling what to do with him, if anything at all. Now, of note here, Ben was accused but not charged; Holmes was charged, which is where that "personal conduct policy" violation comes into play I believe, but not convicted.

Either way...best believe the team, the city, and a whole lot of other people are going to be watching what Goodell does with this situation here...like a hawk.

I think Ben Roethlisberger is the epitome of the term "dumb jock." I mean he is truly devoid of intellect and he clearly doesn't "get it" at all. HOWEVER, even if everyone believes he did something, Roger Goodell should not be so heavy handed as to suspend Big Dumb Ben. Suspend him for what? Being a moron? Embarrasing the league? Give me a freaking break. This isn't the NCAA here. Plus, Big Dumb Ben wasn't arrested or charged for rape, sexual abuse, or even providing booze to underage women. This isn't even Love Boat level. 1) There were charges (and eventual convictions on misdemeanor disorderly conduct) in the Love Boat scandal. 2) The Love Boat players were not even suspended for their transgressions. They were fined, but not suspended by The Shield. IIRC, Goodell had just been commish for about 15 minutes when those fines were handed down, so he hadn't yet become Lord High Commander of Morals and Goodness yet.
