I'm happy to hear that he may leave Pittsburgh. Whereever he goes, I just hope it's out of the division. Him going to the Browns would put a lot of my Browns friends into the awkward position of rooting for the man they've hated since he was in college and that would be very funny for me, but I'm tired of my team playing the guy twice a year. I hope its the 49ers or the Raiders.

I'd probably have a heart attack if Big Ben goes to Seattle.

Hell, if he wanted to be as far away from the media as possible, then Seattle is your choice... Nobodys gives a rat's ass about the Seahawks unless they start winning. Plus, Hasselbeck is getting older and I don't exactly think Whitehurst is ready to be a starter (yet), so getting Big Ben would be beneficial to both sides.

Ohhh... I can only dream.

Make it 6 Games.

How are Steeler fans handling this news, haven't seen much of them around lately.

Im losing more interest in the NFL by the year, so this doesnt bother me as much as it may have a few years ago. Six games I think is a bit much, but dealing him for it is a bad move. I understand the Rooneys pride themselves on being an organization above the rest on stuff like this and thats cool, but I think this is going to set the team back years if they do this. Also, the problem now becomes if they dont deal him, and its out in public that they are trying to do just that, how committed to the organization is he going to be? Is he going to continue to do everything he can to win, or does it get dialed back?

This is Goodell applying the proverbial 2x4 to Big Ben's forehead. Hopefully it'll serve its purpose and get his attention so he knows such behavior will no longer be tolerated.

There seems to be a recent trend of NFL fans getting off on punishment (though I suppose being an NFL fan is itself a form of getting off on punishment). Like, I dunno, I would've been happy that cokehead Bob Probert was always getting suspended and banned from Canada, but it simply would've been because I wouldn't want to put up with Bob Probert. It wouldn't have been couched in some garble about teaching him a hard lesson for being a bad man.

♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫

Plus, you can get your jollies off of watching the idiot Ram fanbase flip out again.

If I'm the 49ers I try to do what I can to bring Big Ben to San Francisco. The talk with them is that they have the talent enough on offense to compete as long as they have a quarterback who's capable. He doesn't have to be flashy but can get the job done, and for added benefit should be a guy who can escape pressure and get the ball off. That's basically the definition of Ben Rothlesberger.

Since they are not in the top 10, then they would have to offer more than their 13th overall. If o deal is made, do not be surprised if Clausen is selected since that is where Jed York went to college.

Faneca signs 1 year deal with Cardinals.

I still think the Cardinals and maybe the Seahawks will finish ahead of the 49ers in 2010. Don't anoint them the new NFC West champions just yet.

If there's anything to this...

Suit against New Orleans Saints alleges Vicodin thefts

By Gwen Filosa, The Times-Picayune

April 30, 2010, 10:03PM

The New Orleans Saints former security director sued the team Friday, accusing the Super Bowl champions of covering up the theft of prescription painkillers from the team drug locker by two "senior staff members" in 2009.

===

...and that's a big if - Mickey Loomis may be the first NFL GM ever to need a prison furlough to attend a SB ring presentation.

To summarize, the Saints' former security chief alleges that Loomis, having knowledge of the drug thefts (with video of those responsible in the act), directed subordinates to alter records in an attempt to cover up the situation, violating several federal and state statutes in the process.

Full Story

I read the lawsuit and it doesn't really strike me as frivolous given the plaintiff's law enforcement background. If it all happened as described, this could end very badly for the Saints organization.

The lawsuit

It is also about Bryant as their punt returner. Both he and Hurd have pretty high salaries. Crayton's base for 2010 is $2M and will be $2.5M for 2011. Hurd signed a tender for $1.759M. Since they won't cut Roy, Crayton is now 4 or 5; Hurd is more like 6/7 since they really like Kevin Ogletree. That is just their depth chart. Witten is not factored in who gets the ball. Marty B could also be on the block too.

lmao, Crayton's acting like he's a superstar on that team. He isn't even their best WR, I'm pretty sure that the Cowboys aren't going to miss Crayton THAT much, especially considering that they've been making a little bit of an effort to get all of the "bad apples" out.

He and/or his agent realize that he may get cut, therefore he must try to see if a team will take on his salary, as opposed to trying to get the veterans minimum.

DeMaurice Smith said this (about veterans) nearly a year ago and it has basically occurred, "The biggest problem is no minimum spending. No salary cap is going to work against the players. It's going to allow teams to dump veterans and not worry about acceleration [of bonus money] against the salary cap. If there's no cap, you're going to see a blood bath of veterans getting released. It will be ugly. Guys who are protected by big acceleration are no longer going to have that protection. Without a salary cap there will be no more ramifications for cutting a veteran. Teams will be able to dump everyone they want with no consequences to their salary cap."

Well, the unnamed "senior staff members" have now been named...Sean Payton and LB coach Joe Vitt. Supposedly Vitt has a medical condition requiring painkillers but Payton doesn't. Payton denies the allegations and this may be what the Saints say it is, nothing but a shakedown attempt. Since all the info was ultimately turned over to the U.S. Attorney and the DEA and nothing has come of it, maybe they're right.

I hope so.
