2009-10 NHL Season Part 2

I swear the NHL doesn't want the Wings to miss.

Obviously the NHL wants the Wings in the playoffs. Would the MLB want the Yankees to miss the postseason or the NFL hope the Cowboys miss the wildcard? However, whatever does that have to do with scoring 2 goals in consecutive games as time expires?

In the NBA, they not only want the Lakers to make the playoffs, but to win it all(see 2002)

After 8 minutes, the Sharks are down 2-0 to the Oilers. THE 2009/10 OILERS.

Yeah, the Coyotes are gonna catch them.

The Coyotes are going into OT with the Stars and that would mean a point that would tie with the Sharks with 96 each.

C'mon Coyotes and Oilers. :D

Edit: Shootout for Coyotes and Stars. Too bad OT in the playoffs is sudden death. :(

lol, they're getting a head start on the choking. Honestly, the Sharks deserve to be in second place right now. This has been an awful road trip for them, they've gotten wiped out by the struggling Alberta teams, & they honestly haven't looked good since before the Olympic break. If any team had the least to benefit form the break, it was San Jose. 8 guys (including their starting goalie & 1st line) go to the Olympics. The team is now in a huge funk. Coincidence?

Sharks are tanking just at the right time.

As for the Flames they need to pray to the Penguin Hockey Gods tomorrow for them to win in REGULATION, none of this scoring with 0.2 on the clock BS. :P

A point will put the Flames back three and as most of you already know the Wings have a far easier schedule they see the Blue Jackets three times in April. Sorry about this SOB story but do to dumb General Managing the Flames have nothing to gain from missing the playoffs.

Teemu600_630(3).jpg

Video of the goal and his post-game on-ice interview

(Man, I'm gonna miss that guy. One of the greatest.)

34 seconds into the 2nd period of the Ducks 5-2 win over Colorado tonight, Lubomir Visnovsky fired a shot from the point on the power play, Corey Perry tried to put home the rebound but was stuffed, the puck was tapped by Scott Niedermayer to a wide open Teemu Selanne who put it into the gaping net for his 600th career goal and the 3-0 lead.

The Pond exploded. Loudest in a non-playoff game in a long time for that moment. The entire team came off the bench to congratulate him. As he skated back there was still more and more cheering and applause. He tried to get onto the bench, but Todd Marchant pushed him back onto the ice to receive his congratulations. Even when he was on the bench he had to stand up one more time to acknowledge the crowd and get us all to shut up. It wasn't that effective.

Throughout the rest of the game there were numerous breakdowns and stats of the 600 goals. Most interesting of which he has scored in 52 NHL arenas and 29 active arenas (New Jersey's new arena is the one withstanding) and has scored on 132 different goaltenders for his 600 goals.

Teemu is just the 18th player to hit the 600 mark and the 3rd European to do so, along with Jaromir Jagr and Jarri Kurri. Teemu needs one goal to tie his boyhood idol, Kurri, and two to ultimately pass him.

Teemu also got his 648th assist of his career, and is two assists behind Brett Hull for 56th all-time. Interestingly enough, Brett Hull was one of two other players to score their 600th goals in game against Anaheim (Hull scored his as a Star in 1999, and Luc Robataille scored his as a Red Wing in Anaheim in 2001)

And the Ducks did win 5-2, puts them at 11th in the West. 7 pts out with 11 games to play. The Ducks are finally getting it going, but sadly a little too late it is starting to look like. If the Wings could just slip up here for a quick second then the Ducks might have a chance. Huge game for the Ducks in Calgary on Tuesday. A ton on the line for both teams.

And I'd like to congratulate the Phoenix Coyotes on tying the Blackhawks for 1st in the West and overtaking the sinking, failing, falling San Jose Sharks... HA!

The Jackets have been playing at least halfway decent right about now. There's nothing I'd like to see more than to knock the Wings out of the playoffs.

Thrashers sweep Philadelphia and stay within 1 point of Boston, which has a game-in-hand on the Thrashers. Both teams just happen to meet on Tuesday in a very pivotal game for the Thrashers.

Wow, can the Thrashers really pull this one off? I sure hope so.

There's gonna be a pretty big game on Tuesday as the Thrashers & Bruins will play in Atlanta for what essentially is the #8 seed.

Kinda shocked that the Thrashers have clawed their way back into the playoff picture, especially considering that they were dead in the water (IMO) a couple of weeks ago. But yeah, good to see that the Thrashers are still fighting. They did a great job sweeping the Flyers in the weekend home-&-home.

The NHL Schedulers were onto something. In a possible Quaterfinal preview, effort to determine which team wants the eight seed more, they have scheduled the Thrashers and Bruins to take on the Eastern Conference leading Capitals twice in April:

1st: Atlanta at Washington;

5th: Boston at Washington;

9th: Atlanta at Washington;

11th: Boston at Washington.
