TFoA
LinkAmong the (possible) punishment:-2 year bowl ban-Loss of 20+ football scholarships-limited recruiting contacts-forfeiture of victories during the Reggie Bush era-probationAll this because:Bush, now with the NFL's New Orleans Saints, and Mayo, who plays for the NBA's Memphis Grizzlies, have maintained that they did nothing wrong while attending USC. The NCAA investigation began in March 2006, when reports surfaced that Bush's mother, brother and stepfather had lived in a San Diego-area home that was owned by a would-be marketer who planned to be part of a group that represented Bush when he turned pro.Pete Carroll got out at just the right time. rams80
I see a "lack of institutional control" penalty being invoked. TrueYankee26
USC is in deep ...... wait, that's an understatement.Pete Carroll left, now this.Looks like Oregon has overtaken USC as the top dog in the Pac 10. trueyankee26.wordpress.com
Still MIGHTY
So I'm guessing that I'm the only one that thinks this is a tad harsh?Especially considering no one that was involved in this thing is even at USC anymore?Matt Barkley is going to bolt next season. You can count on that. | ANA | LAA | LAR | LAL | ASU | CSULB | USMNT | USWNT | LAFC | OCSC | MAN UTD |

And look out for Cal, Arizona, ASU.Also, just as a hypothetical, say USC bounces back this season and wins the Pac-10, who goes to the Rose Bowl? The 2nd place team or a BCS at-large? | ANA | LAA | LAR | LAL | ASU | CSULB | USMNT | USWNT | LAFC | OCSC | MAN UTD |

RyanB06
Almost as severe as the SMU penalties in the 80''s!!!Not severe enough, IMO. This was a clear instance where the death penalty was deserved and the NCAA didn't pull the trigger. TrueYankee26
Woah, I remembered, NCAA banned SMU's games from being on TV in the death penalty, kinda shocked that they didn't do the same this time. trueyankee26.wordpress.com

Now that's a punishment. TrueYankee26
YupI was born in 1991 so I wasn't alive for SMU's death penalty, but wow, the NCAA seemed stern back then. trueyankee26.wordpress.com
Burmy
The reason the NCAA didn't do the death penalty is because they couldn't...the death penalty is only for repeat offenders.
FiddySicks
Yeah, I have to say this is bizarrely harsh. Keeping one of the nation's most popular football schools out of bowl games for two seasons, stripping them of bowl wins/national championships, and cutting their scholarships just before a possibly huge conference realignment seems to be WAY over the top and IMO pretty damn stupid. JayJaxon
Let's get one thing straight here. USC is NOT one of the nation's most popular teams. They do have a ton of fair-weather fans. But nobody cared about them until they suddenly got pushed while better teams got the shaft. That team got forced down the throat of college football fans because LA is a huge market. They play in a joke conference and the out of conference schedule was weak. They got the booty push up the rankings more than I care to count. So I am very happy to hear about this because it couldn't happen to a better school in my opinion. I know my words may seem harsh but I'm just saying what most people are thinking.
