:censored: Media.

Good thing A-Rod hit his 600

It's the media's fault Brett Farve does this same song and dance every off-season?

If anything you should love the media. They do nothing but praise him as the greatest football player in history.

Favre didn't bring anything on this time.

That's the thing.

I would debate that. He's done this consistently since 2003. Can you blame the media for picking up the Offseason Farve Watch when he seems to make it a point to tease his retirement every offseason?

And truth be told he SHOULD retire. Is he upset that last season ended with a pick in the NFC title game? Well guess what, the potentials for his last game are only going to get worse from here on out.

Everyone said that the way he ended the season with the Jets was as good as it could get for him, and that it would only get worse from then on out...

...whoops.

Well a few things....

Last season was easy on Brett, lets be honest. His Vikings steamrolled through a soft schedule, and surprise surprise, ran into trouble when they came up against real challenges. They even lost to the Matt Moore led Panthers and the Jay Cutler led Bears. An elite QB/team that was not.

Secondly, it's just a matter of playing the waiting game. Time is not on Farve's side. Sooner or later, if he continues to drag his sorry a$$ out there season after season, he'll find himself completely outmatched by the players around him. Despite what ESPN might tell you, he can't play forever, and eventually, if he doesn't retire before then, he'll either humiliate himself or end his career with a serious on-field injury. At that point he'll wish he would have stepped aside after throwing a pick in the NFC title game. It's only in the, to quote Bender from Futurama, "land of spells and fairies" that His Farveness is an ageless gunslinger playing for the love of the game.

Finally, last season proved, above anything else, that he hasn't learnt a damn thing. His pick in the NFC title game should prove that to you. In the Cardinals game he threw a fit when asked to sit out when it was clear things weren't going well for him that night. He's still a selfish player who cares more about his own personal quest for one more shot at glory then the performance of whatever team is "privileged" to have him as a quarterback.

It's been said time and time again, if you don't want to hear about Brett Favre, shut off the TV. Favre can and will get all the attention he wants and quite frankly doesn't give a rat's ass about what you people think.

I for one am not sick of it, my personal favorite Favre offseason was when he joined the Jets. I enjoy the coverage.

Mini-rant over.

Here's the problem with your "just turn off your tv" solution. It's just not the offseason coverage we're sick of. It gets repeated during every pre-game show, every post-game analysis, and even in every in-game broadcast. You can't follow the NFL and NOT be reminded about His Farveness' greatness. Considering he cost your Vikings a shot at the Super Bowl by making one of the stupidest passes imaginable I'm surprised to see you defend the guy.

First off, there are no NFL games being played right now, so it would be impossible for you to watch any pre-game shows, post-game analysis, or in-game broadcasts. Secondly, Favre was the main reason the Vikings had the most fun to watch season of any team I follow since I have been alive. I look at last year as a practice run, with virtually the same team returning this year + Favre, I can't wait.

What if I want to follow the offseason happenings? Now I can't unless I want to get a heaping helping of Farve. Once the season starts it'll get worse.

As for your Vikings, they lost every time they ran into a challenge. So I wouldn't be looking forward to as stellar as season as you are.

Unfortunately, we will all have to deal with Favre at some point. If you choose to turn off the TV, not only are you ridding yourselves of Spongebob and Shaq vs., you are just avoiding the imminent Favre-apalooza. During the season, when he surely returns, we will get even more of him. If you want to watch your team play on FOX or CBS or ESPN, you will have to deal with Favre during at least 20 minutes of the broadcast. That's just how te media is these days. Simply shutting off the TV won't stop it.

You're just sour about Favre, therefor will look for anything Vikings-related to hate on. I'm stopping this little back-and-forth before it escalates.

You're right, I am sour about Farve. The constant media fellatio fests, the teasing at retirement at the end of every season, the CONSTANT coverage, it's enough.

Sour about Favre ≠ sour about the Vikings.

I can't speak for Ice_Cap, but I was sick of the "Will Favre retire or won't he?" drama by 2004. It's beyond sickening now - but that's because of Favre, not the Packers, Jets, Vikings, or any other organization he will do the old "hit it then quit it" routine to in the future, so to speak.

My distaste for Farve came from the whole pain killer thing. He got addicted to pain killers, and the sports media painted him like a victim. If it had been any other athlete they would have crucified them. It was around then that I started to realize that the media loves this guy way to much.

Then he started teasing his retirement around 2003. Seven years of the same song and dance gets old. Plus the verbal fellatio sessions before, during, and after each Farve game. His interviews aren't even real interviews anymore. It's just network personalities fawning over him. Enough already.

If everyone is so upset about Brett Favre's antics then they should just buy ESPN and put all this talk to bed. The way some act so outraged by what a pay cable channel does absolutely blows my mind. It's to the point where it actually makes the people who bitch about What they see on TMZ or read in the Enqirer look sane. Just stop it already and enjoy that it's almost football season. It's like many fans have turned into wives....

Ignoring ESPN isn't nearly as effective as it should be when every other sports media outlet also breathlessly covers the story.

CNN spent a segment of one of their shows on Favre. It's freaking everywhere.
