CS85
This guy: ...who was featured in Roll Tide/War Eagle, a 30 for 30 ESPN doc, was finally sentenced to 3 years in jail, but looks like he won't serve more than 6 months. Kramerica Industries
Who else had completely forgotten about this guy and figured due justice had already taken its course? And, of course, whack-jobs like this have gotten to celebrate two championships in the past two years. Another case of Life Isn't Fair.
CS85
It's certainly NOT news by any means, but it shows how much priority the legal system gave to this stupidity, which is arguably justified. dfwabel
This would have been much larger national news but Finebaum elected to leave his Cumulus deal in January and still has a 90-day no-complete clause.
pmoehrin
I would imagine Auburn will be filing a civil suit for damages which I don't think he's going to get off lightly on. Auburn will probably want every the dollar this guy is worth in restitution. His life is effectively over. He has to go through the rest of his life as a pariah, will probably be bankrupt within a year or so if he isn't already and has to do six months in the slammer on top of it. And probation isn't exactly a picnic either. Can't do much of anything outside of going to work and sitting at home. Hope all of that it was worth it to him. rams80
I wouldn't call him a pariah in certain circles of the Alabama fandom. chuckymack
I don't know about all this. Six months for killing somebody else's trees seems excessive. Three years is borderline insane. Yes, Auburn fans REALLY LIKED those trees, but they were still just trees. Just make him pay for the cost for replacing the trees, throw in some probation as a slap on the wrist and call it a day. Sigs are for sissies.
njmeadowlanders
Yeah, I think leaving him to live his ruined life is enough of a punishment than leaving him to live his ruined life AND putting him away for six months at the expense of the taxpayers. rams80
as a bama fan, i don't know a single bama fan that doesn't think he's scum...A guy in his financial situation found his way to the BCS National Championship Game in New Orleans back in 2012. Somebody approved of his actions. On 8/1/2010 at 4:01 PM, winters in buffalo said: You manage to balance agitation with just enough salient points to keep things interesting. Island_Style
I think 6 months in jail for property damage of that caliber is more than fair. They also weren't "just trees". A lot of meaning in those trees.
chuckymack
Yes, they were just trees. They were no more of a tree than any other tree. Sentimental or not, they're just trees, man. Sigs are for sissies.
FiddySicks
I really don't get the feeling that his life is going to be all that ruined for doing this. He's basically a household name now, and you just know there is some yokel Alabama fan out there who owns a construction company or runs a resturant who will employ this guy just because of his "legendary" status. Plus, he's just some dumb hick who poisoned some trees. Those who are calling for his head because of the whole "BUT DA TREEZ HAD MEENING!!1!" line look just as ridiculous as he does.Hell, George Washington cut down a Cherry tree and he became the first king of America. Gothamite
Yes, they were just trees. They were no more of a tree than any other tree. Sentimental or not, they're just trees, man. They were somebody else's property. Property that has great value to the owner (actual promotional and thus financial value, in addition to whatever sentimental value). He willfully destroyed that property, property which is irreplaceable. So no, they were not "just trees." And I have very little regard for Auburn or their stupid trees. chuckymack
They were very well-liked trees, as stated above. They were incredibly old trees that still bloomed; I get it. People who like Auburn like these trees. A misguided fool poisoned these extremely rare trees. I understand this.I just don't understand how killing trees is worth six months of freedom. Killing people, yes. Torturing animals, sure. But trees? Trees get used and harvested all the time.Like I said, make him pay for the best replacement trees possible. Make him pay restitution. Ban him from forests. But six months in the slammer surrounded by murderers, rapists, thieves, and psychopaths?Seems a bit excessive for killing trees. Sigs are for sissies.
