Red Sox special home jersey...

Did the Boston Red Sox wear a special home jersey today at Fenway? I saw a photo on the Red Sox official Facebook page that showed the home jersey with "BOSTON" across the chest instead of "RED SOX". Probably something special for the events this week.

I really want to see the Red Sox replace their Boston script on their road jerseys with Our F*****g City.

The road jerseys would look much better if BOSTON was in red.

Disagree. For the majority of the Red Sox history since 1936, the road uniform's lettering has been blue. Though I wouldn't mind them adding a red outline to the road jersey's lettering and numbering.

Can't get past the damned Yankee similarities, though, and if there's one thing the Red Sox (and, conversely, the Yankees) should want to avoid, it's looking like your rival in any way, shape, or form beyond the basics (like home and road jersey color).

The Red Sox roads that were worn up until 2009 were excellent, and had two World Series, two pennants, and multiple playoff trips during their short shelf life. Why did they ever ditch those?

I dislike this jersey as much as I dislike the Red Sox road uniforms.

Their tuscan font just looks really weak without the outline. Really needs it. I don't care if it's red outlined in blue or blue outlined in red (the former is my preference, though), but the outline needs to be there.

I definitely prefer this look over the straight blue. They won two (2!!!) World Series with this road look. Why change it out for a word mark associated with 80+ years of futility? Their history since 1936 has been pretty frustrating, with the exception of the time they won those two Series in the red letters.

I also hate to be the guy who points out that a team with the word "Red" in the name should prominently feature some red on their uniform (I'm looking at you too, Cardinals, but won't take it further for fear of making this thread like the abysmal all-Cardinals MLB main thread).

I dislike this jersey as much as I dislike the Red Sox road uniforms.

I like it without the blue outline for the special jersey. It looks simpler and more olde tymey. I thought maybe they could put a white outline around it, actually to separate it from the piping a little. It might even look good on a cream fauxback, but I can hear the haters already hating, so I won't suggest that...

What? Aside from blue lettering on a gray uniform, what's the similarity? Different font. And Yankees outline "New York" in white whereas Red Sox don't outline "Boston". If we're going to start calling same colors used as "similarities" then there are a hell of a lot of similar uniforms out there.

While I love the look of the lettering with an outline, and I agree in theory, every time I see it in one color, it looks so clean and fresh. I really like it.

Interesting. It's not that I think all lettering has to have outlines, I just think their font screams for it.

Ever since the Red Sox replaced the red lettering with the navy on the road uniforms, it has just looked way too lopsided to me. I think I'm just drawn to the middle panel of the jersey where the buttons are and the "T" has three letters on the left and only two on the right. I never really noticed it until they switched, but now it bugs me every time I see it.

The special jerseys that they wore last weekend really made it stand out with the piping since it framed the "T." I'm definitely not knocking them though, it was a great tribute to the city, and something that I'm sure was pulled off without a lot of time to plan. I definitely wouldn't want to see it as anything but a one-off though, nor would I want to see piping on the road jerseys for this reason.
