This would be the typical American response at football games ending in a tie:

"Ugh...this game's boring...this is socialism...ugh...(struggles to breathe)...it's those liberals...Obama...(struggles to breathe)...this wouldn't happen under Reagan...this is socialism...(struggles to breathe)...(takes huge bite of Big Mac with large fries)...this isn't soccer...those damn Mexicans...illegal aliens...(struggles to breathe)...Obama...he wants to take my gun away...liberals...(struggles to breathe)...that Martin guy from the Dolphins is a liberal...Obama...(struggles to breathe)...I hate tie games...I want my Big Mac and fries now!"

But meh, I'll take the belt, still.

Well no matter how we get to a tie, the diehard NFL fan (i.e. the macho, stereotypical, overweight, blue-collar American) will always hate the idea of such a tie.

My point.

It's really fun making a nice long drive through the nothing desert immediately after watching your team in-person for the only time this season in a never-in-question road blowout...

Sigh, Colts... This is EXACTLY what I was afraid of coming in.

Some of the worst :censored: ing tackling I've ever seen. Some of the worst secondary coverage. Some of the worst attempts at running the football. And outside of TY Hilton, I have NO idea who I trust to catch the football. Fleener showed up today, I guess, but that hasn't shown to be a consistent thing. All the issues they were able to overcome and survive as Andrew Luck led those late comebacks are really showing now. They just can't do this anymore. I wanted to throw out the Rams game and they covered it up again with the Titans game, but this team is on a very disturbing trend of play. Despite what we wanted to say after beating Seattle and Denver, this is not a championship team. Far from it. At 100% health and effort, maybe they could be, but it's not something to expect from this group at this moment.

Andrew Luck is still going to be one very damn good quarterback, but he isn't what Peyton was for this team. He can't cover up all this team's deficiencies all the time. It's not realistic to expect.

They're still 7-4 and in the 3rd seed, but with another game against the strangely surging Titans next week and a trip to Cincinnati waiting after that, this has a chance to turn fast. Houston and Jacksonville at home soften it for them, but there's also a trip to Kansas City in there as well. I don't know if the running game can be fixed, but I think it can be used more effectively. (Everytime they ran the ball, I called it before the play. There wasn't any hiding the game plan.) And the defense... idk. Tackling should be something fundamental, but I don't know. They need to figure out how to start games.

---

And despite all the knocking down of my own team :P , major props to the Cardinals. I didn't think Carson Palmer had that in him any more, but the Cards o-line gave him plenty of time to survey the Colts porous secondary and find Fitzgerald and Floyd more than their share of times. And that Cards defense is what's held them together over the last few years, and this one is no different. Great secondary coverage with Peterson and Matthieu. Great presence in their front seven. Good stuff from them.

As mad as I am about the Colts performance, I'm happy for the Cardinals and their playoff push. Good job.

Let's see: a Thursday night game in Atlanta, next Monday's showdown in Seattle and now the Sunday night game in two weeks. That's three straight "prime time" games for the Saints. When was the last time a team did that?

Don't forget SF @ NO was the Fox "Game of the Week" or whatever and went out to most of the country. I love it since I don't live down there anymore and won't tolerate DirecTV's horrible service for the sake of having Sunday Ticket.

Did anybody see Cam Newton's drama flop? A Dolphin defender touched his shoulder pads at the sideline and Cam flailed his way to the ground and drew a 15-yard penalty. Fox showed him laughing on his way back to the huddle. A bit ironic since one of his teammates called Brees "soft" and (ridiculously) suggested he flopped to draw the Brooks penalty.

Interesting. In 12 years as a Directv subscriber, I've never had a single problem and their service has been great. I wonder if it's a regional thing.

As soon as I posted that I knew someone would chime in to that effect. I'm glad your experience has been night-and-day different from mine. Not sure what the region would have to do with anything.

Installation, maintenance, and repair are all sub-contracted. There's a better than average chance that the people who have the contract for those services here might be better than the people where you are. Any service calls, while routed through DTV, are not handled by DTV. That's what the region "has to do with anything."

What leads you to believe that?

Turning back to the topic, who watched Panthers-Dolphins? I didn't have a dog in that fight but if anything, would have welcomed a Miami win 'cause it would have been better for the Saints. Though the Panthers won, they got absolutely screwed a couple of times. On one, a Dolphin receiver caught the ball but lost it on the ground. They called that complete. Then a Dolphin caught a ball on the sideline and was called out of bounds. Despite the replay, which was inconclusive on his feet being inbounds and actually revealed he bobbled the ball on the way to the ground, the call was reversed and ruled a catch.

It's disturbing enough when bad calls are made but could have gone either way. When it's that flagrant, something is very wrong.

You asked what the region had to do with anything. Well...you didn't ask so much as pull out the old subtle put down of "not sure what", but I digress...

My point was simply that your experience with bad service may have been due to the sub-contractors that handle your area. For example, the sub-contractors in say Nevada may be better than the ones in Rhode Island. Hell, the sub-contractors in a different part of Georgia may be better. It wasn't a knock on the south or whatever you might have thought I was saying. I worded it poorly. You've had bad experiences with DTV and I haven't. It could be because the people who handle the contracts in my area are better than the ones who handle them in yours. That's all I was saying. Stand down. B)

Sorry, didn't mean anything by that and never thought of it as a put-down, subtle or otherwise. It was a genuine expression of curiosity/confusion about what you wrote. By "region" I thought you meant the Midwest vs. the Southeast and so on. There is some decidedly unsubtle bias on this board toward the South from time to time but that's not your thing so that's why I asked for clarification. I thought you maybe knew something I didn't about DTV's ops in your area.

What disappointed me about DirecTV was that I was a happy customer for years then moved and couldn't have satellite for a few years. When I moved again and went back to them, I raved to my then-girlfriend/later fiancee/now wife about how great they were. Our experience was a complete nightmare from start to finish.

I won't bore you with the details but they were such that when one of those salespeople DirecTV has at Wal-Mart now and again approached me, I told her some of the issues we had and added jokingly that she was lucky my wife wasn't with me. "That's okay, I'll talk to her about DirecTV," she said. "Well," I replied, "if you're that brave you should chuck this job and join the Navy SEALS." :D

As my esteemed BASS colleague, Mike, likes to say - no worries. Unfortunately for DTV, their use of sub-contractors makes their service pretty hit and miss. My understanding is that a contractor deal with DTV doesn't pay the greatest. As with anything, they get what they pay for. As a result, they're probably going to put up with some less than stellar contractors and that's a shame because they really do have a great product.

RE: the south - you're talking to a guy who's entire family is from either Kentucky or North Carolina. Even though I was born and raised in Ohio, I'm 100% pure hillbilly. You won't see me taking pot shots at the south. B)

I can't believe it! The Packers should've won this game! It's ends in a tie! I HATE TIE GAMES!!

'Murica.

Eh, not very creative... yet spot on for a large swatch of fans of NFC North teams.
