IanC
Germany players hit by fluGermany coach Joachim Loew has revealed seven of his players are suffering with flu symptoms.Loew's side face France in the first of the World Cup quarter-finals but without naming the unfortunate players, he revealed most had "throat aches"."As a result, it's too early to make any final decisions about the line-up," Loew added.Defender Mat Hummels missed Germany's round of 16 match against Algeria on Monday due to a fever and has suffered a "negative setback" since, according to his manager.Despite a few players being caught under the weather they are doing better than I expected. To me it looked like France were suffering from flu more than the Germans. Very dissapointed with the lack of urgency France showed in the game. dbadefense1990
Hard to believe that based on those fishy, pretty much meaningless world rankings, the Netherlands are the weakest opponents that Costa Rica will have played come tomorrow afternoon. Uruguay, Italy, England and Greece all ranked higher.... When a world football ranking system puts Greece over Holland, then you know that system is fatally flawed. The_Admiral
As for Major League Soccer, there are a series of things that inhibit it in terms of its success level, and which probably have done so permanently. Another problem is that American sports culture celebrates pretending you're healthy when you're not in order to win (Flu Game, Kirk Gibson, any Stanley Cup ever), whereas soccer culture celebrates pretending you're hurt when you're not. ♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫
Needschat
And now that the USA lost, people come out of the woodwork on social media to remind us all that soccer sucks and no one cares between World Cups... Whatever.Ride, Soccer White Knight!Honestly though I am ing exhausted from soccer facebook crap this evening. Un-friggin-real. Nobody wanted to argue for the sport, all they wanted to do was opine that it sucks that people are reacting negatively to soccer enthusiasm.I've been doing this crap for years about the Cardinals, the Cowboys, and Miami Heat, yet the first time I dare mention my pleasure at soccer's inevitable return to the background, it's as if I've set the American flag on fire or cut a bald eagle's head off. I figured it would get ignored sans maybe 1 or 2 snide comments from people who, ya know, actually like soccer. Twenty-something comments later it's like I'm crawling out of a spiderhole covered in mud and text-bruises.I felt my responses made sense as did yours (or anyone who chose to respond with anything other than middle fingers or "why you gotta hate bro?"), but good lord. It was never worth the energy. So don't watch it and ignore all the social media about it. Sheesh, it's that easy. Oh what could have been.... Can you find any Celtics fan denouncing what Paul Pierce did? Can you find any Heat fan going against the actions of LeBron? Can you find a Coyotes fan who would openly call Mike Smith's dives "dives"? Is there any New York Giants fans who didn't like Deon Grant faking a leg injury to buy his team more time? Most of us despise the practice of American players faking, diving, flopping, cherry-picking...any acts of gamesmanship, except when it helps our favorite teams win. Germany will have everybody, unlike 4 years ago when Muller got suspended for the very weak handball against Argentina. This is gonna be fun on Tuesday.
