2014 NFL Draft

Surprised we didn't have a seperate thread for this. Since this is defenitely one of the most hyped-up sports events in sports, let's get the ball rolling on some draft talk.

So who do you guys see Houston taking with the first pick? This is one of the first years in a while where the first pick is completely up in the air it seems like.

As a draft nerd who doesn't watch college football, my favorite thing to do each year sports-wise is compile my mock draft. Nobody gives a rat's ass, I know.

That being said, I think trades into the top 10 will happen but the only one I can pretty much guarantee is the Cowboys moving up to take Manziel. They're drunk on him and Jerry Jones is no stranger to moving up for his guys. Jacksonville and Oakland are both like to trade down, especially Oakland, so don't be surprised if the Cowboys go there or trade with Tennessee for the 11th pick overall, should Manziel be available there.

Aaron Donald will probably go at 12 to the Giants. Jadeveon Clowney is the #1 pick but look for Houston to do an Eli move and use him as a trade chip with a team like Atlanta. Either way Houston profits.

Cleveland and the 49ers are both swollen with draft picks, so don't be surprised if they leverage multiple picks into the top 10/20.

For Houston, they would be stupid if they didn't take Jadeveon Clowney with the first pick. The last time they got the 1st pick, they selected Mario Williams and he was a star for them. I also see Chicago or Green Bay to take Calvin Pryor in the first round and wouldn't be too surprised if Bridgewater falls into the second round.

I know the Niners are interested in WR Mike Evans from Texas A&M

Pipe dream for me: Patriots trade for the first overall pick and take Manziel.

Oh, it could happen.

Here's a couple comments I'll make about the draft:

Houston's in a very weird position. Clowney is a once in a life time player, but their QB position is just so flipping weak. Not drafting one in the first this year is basically throwing in the towel. If they really wanted Clowney, they would've at least signed Vick or McCown early, or at least traded for a "two year starter" to hold the thrown till next year. I think they go Bortles.

Bucs are in a very weird position and it is practically impossible to come up with a logical solution on what they should do because of how wide open this draft is. I want Manziel, and that's my overall dream pick, but I'm not sure he will be there, or if the Bucs want him. I also like Watkins, but It's very unlikely he will be on the board. We should not consider trading up, unless it only means losing a 3rd. (unlikely). As long as they don't draft Derek Carr or a defensive player, I'll be happy.

This QB class is so goofy. I honestly have no idea if any of these quarterbacks will make it in the NFL. Bortles seems to be on a hype train, Carr is a joke, Manziel is hit or miss, and I've always thought Bridgewater was overrated.

Next years class is even weirder though, the QB position is going to be really shakey the next two years. I don't think we will be seeing any Flaccos, Ryan's, or Lucks in any of these classes.

Dude. Two words. Marcus Mariota. That guy is going to be one hell of a player in the NFL.

I like to do a fun little thing every draft as well. Ten bold predictions and 5 sleepers.

1. Derek Carr is the first QB off the board at #4.

2. Houston trades the number one pick to Atlanta, who take Jadeveon Clowney.

3. Dallas trades Romo (yes I know, but they bite the bullet on his cap casualty) and the number 16 pick to Oakland to select Manziel before Houston (who now sits at 6)

4. Blake Bortles is the second QB off the board at #8.

5. Teddy Bridgewater slides to the second round before Arizona finally picks him up.

6. Aaron Murray to Houston

7. AJ McCarron to New England in the second round

8. Tom Savage to Jacksonville

9. D'Anthony Thomas to Denver in the third.

10. LeBron James will be Mr. Irrelevant (not as crazy as you think)

My five sleepers:

Aaron Murray QB UGA. By far the most pro ready QB in the draft. Shades of Drew Brees coming out of Purdue.

Jeff Janis WR SVSU. Pretty much an Eric Decker clone.

Weston Richburg C CSU. An absolute hoss who can start at center day one in the NFL.

Tom Savage QB Pitt. This guy reminds me so much of Joe Flacco.

Zac Mettenberger QB LSU. Some team is going to roll the dice on this kid in the sixth round and we'll be talking about it for years and years to come.

Not going to lie, I spent at least 10 minutes trying to find a thread. I even searched it and nothing came up.

I'm surprised you are so high on Murray. I loved Murray in his first two seasons starting for Georgia and thought he could be a stud, but he never lived up to his potential. Not only that, the injury is defenitely an area of concern.

It'd be very interesting to see Romo get traded, though. It's possible, but difficult to "predict".

I feel sorry for any team that takes clowney or manziel they both scream bust to me, clowney because of work ethic, manziel because coaches wont put up with his antics off the football field

Like signing autographs and sitting courtside at basketball games?

If Sammy Watkins is available at #7 and Tampa picks a freaking OLB, I think I'll probably throw my TV out of the window.

They need a receiver SO MUCH MORE than they need anyone on the defensive side of the ball (especially Anthony freaking Barr. Uggh). If they go defense they're the dumbest team in the NFL.

So they'll probably go defense.

If Watkins is on the board, I can't see them not taking him. You have to remember that this coaching/management regime we have now is light-years better than the last two regimes. If he's off the board, Your guess is as good as mine.

CJ Mosley. That is all.

Also, Teddy Bridgewater is going to make it to Friday and the team that gets him will be a helluva lot more happier than when the Jets got Geno Smith last year.
