Lights Out
People need to stop running with that narrative. Jim Buss and Mitch Kupchak were making decisions in the front office when we won two championships. The only thing that has changed is that the Buss children now have the additional titles of being owners. While it's unfortunate that certain members of the media have chosen Jim Buss as the scapegoat for the franchise's current troubles, it's even more unfortunate whenever people actually buy into those opinions. There is no need for all of this hate, for the Lakers are simply rebuilding. It happened in the mid-1990s, and again in the mid-2000's. Ehhh.... Jim Buss deserves some criticism at least. This is the guy who fired your entire scouting staff during the lockout, proclaimed that "anyone can scout players," and hired a bartender named Chaz as a scout (not even making this up), after all. Ateles fusciceps
If you value him so much, then you offer him more money to stay. Isn't it obvious? They can't offer him more than they have. Bird offered Stephenson every single penny he could without going into the luxury tax, which the owner would not allow. Indy couldn't afford him because Bird is paying George Hill & Roy Hibbert's bum asses nearly $24mil per season.

ESTONES6
That wasn't Bird's full quote. "It's just disappointing,'' Bird said. "When I'd go to practices, when he was on, he was by far our best player. And he worked. If you work as hard as he does, you're going to get better. I'm going to miss the kid, no question. And he's growing up. That stuff he pulled in the playoffs, that was out of the blue. But I knew how good Lance was and the value he brought to our team.'' This is a microcosm of mass media in America.Anyway... Lance - or his agent - totally blew those negotiations. The bum with Kwame Brown numbers, as you so put it, was coming off a trip to the all star game when he was offered that contract. Which is one more all star game than Brown can claim to have played in. alxy8s
Quick question...Reading that Andrew Wiggins being signed by the Cavs means he cannot be traded for 30 days. Could the Wolves and Cavs agree in principle to a trade involving him but have to wait to execute it until the moratorium has passed?

alxy8s
(Doubt there's enough interest to warrant a Team USA Basketball thread)Kevin Love is pulling out of the FIBA World Cup due to his "current status with the Timberwolves." Kawhi Leonard, Blake Griffin, and LaMarcus Aldridge have also withdrawn their names. LeBron James doesn't play in FIBA tournaments anymore. It's frustrating that the team is so often unable to field USA's best players. It'll make for closer games, which is all well and good, but an absolutely dominate basketball team easily steals the title of "the beautiful game" from soccer IMO. I'm too young to remember the '92 Dream Team, but the 2008 Olympic team was a joy to watch.

I'm too young to remember the '92 Dream Team, but the 2008 Olympic team was a joy to watch.Well remember, in 2010 it was fairly trim as well comparably. The squad didn't have LeBron, Wade, Bosh, Howard, Paul, Kobe, or Melo from the 2008 Olympics. But it gave a chance for the younger players like Durant, Westbrook, and others a chance to shine and ended up getting it in the end. This year the squad's still going to have the reigning MVP, the Splash Brothers, Harden, Davis, Paul George, Lillard, Wall...the only issue is just our size but we are going to be one quick, fast-shooting high-speed group. alxy8s
Size is a very real concern when Spain still has the Gasol brothers and Ibaka, and the tournament is being played in Spain. I'd bet on USA winning. It remains frustrating that it's so rare for USA's best to represent USA.
Lights Out
Blake got injured at the Olympics, so it's tough to quibble with his cautiousness this summer. He's better off working on his game instead of expending energy and risking injury in a meaningless competition anyway. crownking30
The Spurs should be proud They may repeat in 2014-15. 5 NBA titles, 6 Western Conference titles, the 2014 championship does erase that painful and horrific night of Tuesday, June 18, 2013, NBA Finals Game 6 which probably still lingers, but it has been eased by the 2014 championship.
