Minor League Hockey Shake-up...coming

I'm fine with sticking to Admirals, for Norfolk. If they have to change, the only suitable alternative would be Destroyers.

Just rename the NHL club "Nashville Admirals." The city's already got Commodores.

The nickname (Commodores) is one that the school's namesake, Cornelius Vanderbilt, had, as a shipping magnate. Nashville has no significant military maritime history, of its own. Couple that with the fact that UT may still be more popular, in Nashville, and Admirals makes zero sense.

If Milwaukee could get its name from a refrigerator salesman, Nashville can get its from the affiliates.

That is some Charlotte Bobcats logic, there. The days of names coming from an owner or benefactor are long gone.

Highlights of the AHL's 2017-18 Alignment:

*Belleville, Laval and the B-Devs remain in the North division.

*Charlotte moves to the Atlantic division, leaving the Central with 7 teams.

*No change to the Pacific.

Interesting to see they decided to forgo a West Coast team (Reno would've been a perfect location, but how do you put an ice plant in the Events Center?)

Wondering who #31 will be for the AHL (if they even do expand?)

The AHL and Blues have confirmed that there will be no expansion, this upcoming season. The Blues will continue to send the Wolves players, though I assume they'll work out a deal with one or two other teams, as well.

True, it's probably not at the point that Vegas needs a squad of their own just yet.

It should be so hard to get players to Vegas from the enormous international airport literally across the street from where the Wolves play.

A deleted tweet from the Quad City Mallards says they'll be the affiliate of Vegas this season.

So Vegas > Chicago (Wolves) > Quad City

Not sure where else to put this. I was sent a promo code, to watch the Calder Cup Finals, for free. Griffins and Crunch.

The code is: FINALS17

Rumor is that the Colorado Eagles are looking to join the AHL.

The Avalanche might move its primary minor-league interests from San Antonio to less than an hour drive north of Denver, to Loveland, joining forces with the Colorado Eagles, who could become the Avs’ American Hockey League affiliate as early as 2018-19.

Looks like what is left of Alaska is moving to Portland, Maine. Only fitting they become the Pirates?

Might be named the Maine Mariners. That was the name when the Flyers were first involved with Portland.

It looks like we'll have another new logo for minor league hockey in Columbus, Ga., starting in 2018-19.

This article makes it seem as though this is the same franchise as the Cottonmouths but that the now former owners do not wish to give up the branding.
