Browns fire head coach

I don't know whether Coach Chud was good or bad; I really couldn't have been bothered to watch a whole ton of Browns games this year (though they certainly looked awful today against the Steelers) outside of having a desire to see Josh Gordon obliterate DB's, but at this point, the better idea is probably just to contract that franchise and start over with a new Cleveland franchise that will stop tarnishing the legacy of the original Cleveland Browns.

Hell, I'm going to dfwabel this post and just list any and all coaching vacancies and hirings for easy reference.

Truth. They fired their coach after one stinking year. It's like they thought they had some type of all star team and was in Super Bowl or bust mode. They had to know they were still rebuilding right? Doesn't matter because they will be right back in this spot next year. New coach, new playbook, and no consistency is a recipe for disaster.

Frazier, Schwartz, and Shanahan are all awaiting pink slips from what I read today -- but knowing Ford Sr., I'm sure Schwartz will get an extension for even more money than we already pay him. It's just the Lions way.

Interestingly, Schwartz's salary is $6 million (!!!) a year as it stands, which puts him with 8 other NFL coaches in the $6M+ range -- none of whom he belongs in the same discussion as: Payton, Belichick, Reid, Carroll, Fisher, Shanahan, Coughlin, and Kelly.

Apparently, there's discussion that Penn state may be pretty interested in him if O'Brien leaves.

Actually... I don't think that would be too bad of a fit for them. Schiano was WAY out of his league in the NFL (no pun intended), but his authoritarian style and propensity to micromanage EVERYTHING seems like a pretty decent fit for for a school that still faces several years of probation and bowl bans.

As for what the Bucs will do? Pfft. I have no idea. But neither do the Glazers. They might as well throw the kitchen sink at Gruden to come back at this point. Hell, bring along Monte Kiffen too for old times sake. Maybe sign Trent Dilfer to man the offense again too.

Redskins: As long as Dan Snyder owns the team he's going to be the equally stupid yet somehow more controversial equivalent of Jerry Jones. Franchise has pieces but if Shanahan can't fix Snyder's mess, who can?

Texans: In dire need of some new blood. Have a couple guys here and there but they shamefully squandered the best years of Andre Johnson's career. Lovie Smith will be their guy, no doubt about it.

Lions: Lots of talent but if Schwartz stays, so does the status quo. Lions are vying with the Bears for innovating new, creative ways to break their fan's hearts.

Bears: Fire everyone, coach or player, associated with defense.

The Steelers have had three head coaches since 1969. The Browns will have had three since 2012.

The Browns have won 5 games or fewer for 6 consecutive years. The last time they didn't they went 10-6 and still missed the playoffs.

There's gotta be something going on behind the scenes where Chudzinski just wasn't working well with Haslam because that's the only way this makes sense. It's not his fault his offensive personnel is lacking (I say that because the defense is a playoff defense), and it's not his fault that the team hasn't had a franchise quarterback since Kosar.

I was worried when Haslam bought the team that he was going to be a Robert Kraft type and that the Browns were going to become a competent operation. I'm glad those fears have been put to rest.

I think their coaching carousel is one of the top two reasons they've been so dreadful. It's hard to win when your players have to change systems every year and it's hard to win and get the most out of your guys as a coach when the players don't trust that you'll be there in two years. The other reason they've been so dreadful is the complete dearth of good players.

I feel for Browns fans though. I really do. That's where I'm at. I don't hate this division rival, I just feel bad for them. There isn't a fanbase that deserves this less.

You also will have to change your GM, because Mark Dominik's record is 28-52. That is a record which does not deserve hiring his third HC since 2009.

Read a fun stat today: Jim Schwartz has the worst winning % in his first 5 years with a team at 29-52 since John McKay was 22-53-1 with the expansion Bucs in 1976-1980.

Schiano belongs at a basketball school where the football team sucks but can be coached up to Kinda Above Average by lots of yelling and screaming and gamesmanship. So, basically Rutgers, I guess. Does IU need a coach?

The old Browns did have a franchise quarterback in Kosar. The expansion Browns have never had a franchise quarterback. The only reason I say this, is because, the old Browns are in Baltimore, and are the defending Super Bowl champions.
