dfwabel
From the Brooklyn Bolts Facebook page:"Brooklyn BoltsThe Inaugural Season of the FXFL is officially over. The league tried to put together a championship game for next week, but logistically they weren't able to make it work. The Bolts finish the season with a 4-0 record and in 1st place. Thanks to the over 8,000 fans who came through the gates and helped to ‪#‎BringTheThunder‬."So much for that Championship Game idea. "weren't able to make it work" = Out of $$$.Plus, trying to have a game over Thanksgiving weekend on such late notice illustrates stupidity for not realizing airplane are generally SOLD OUT during the holidays! Also doesn't help that the most recent comments are from the Omaha coach and a franchise, not from the league office/CEO. Some Omaha players still claim they haven't been paid for their last game. gosioux76
I love the idea of a developmental professional football league as much as anybody. And as much as I've hoped these efforts would succeed, I just don't see how it could ever happen, at least not without some direct affiliation with the NFL. dfwabel
$85 to try out for a league where your game check will probably bounce? They tried to charge $125 for tryouts in February for events in San Diego, L.A., Houston, Tampa, and Miami but none of those events took place. dfwabel
Youngstown? Uh... yeah. You can put the fork in them now. They're done. I hope for failure as well, however the endgame for the founder, Brian Woods, is to stay in business long enough to be bought by the NFL and when you're able to "sell" franchises to three minor league baseball teams, you limit your expenses and hopefully be able to pay players and staff owed last seasons's wages. I say three as Omaha is not returning as they were "bought" by the Hudson Valley Renegades. He has less expenses this year, but oddly keeps a "traveling squad" as the Blacktips. Brian in Boston
The Fishkill, New York-based team that is set to replace the Omaha Mastodons in the FXFL's lineup of franchises has settled on an identity. The Hudson Valley Fort will play out of Dutchess Stadium, home to the New York-Penn League's Hudson Valley Renegades.
yh
If only there was a embarrassing and juvenile nickname that fans of the Fort's arch-rival could call them.If only there were fans . . . or another team, for that matter.
Gothamite
That graphic is a perfect example of why the name is terrible. "Fort" is a passive noun. It just stands there, while the more dynamic nouns run around sacking or defending it. The Green Bay Packers Uniform Database! Now in a handy blog. dfwabel
Last year's players and support staff have yet to receive final game checks. Also, when this is your setup, I find it very hard that one would break even from paying a franchise fee. dfwabel
Youngstown? Uh... yeah. You can put the fork in them now. They're done.FXFL pulls team since the league cannot afford it. "We found out over the weekend and we've been trying to work on any way possible to keep a team," Taylor said. "It was 100 percent a league decision, not our decision. We are not owners of the team, we just have the venue and operate as marketers and promoters."
