Seriously? I went and took a nap because that game was so boring! This is why I love bowl week.

This is the first time I've gotten a chance to see Miami play, but they have got to fire Al Golden. I know that Duke Johnson is a fantastic player, but his conservative play calling ran him into the ground, and ultimately lost the game. Brad Kayaa can be a great quarterback, but there they put such a tight leash on him that he couldn't be himself. Pounding the ball up the middle isn't Miami, and I hope somebody realizes that.

Question. Historically is Penn State vs Boston College a rivalry? I'm watching the Pinstripe Bowl and get the feeling that some type of northeast bragging rights are on the line here.

I don't have any hatred towards Penn State, and I understand that these kids had nothing to do with the whole Sandusky thing, but it still makes me feel a bit uncomfortable to see Penn State win a bowl game. Something about it just kind of feels wrong.

Even though I'm a big FSU fan, I hate seeing Miami struggle. And I like Al Golden, but he doesn't have the fire and aggression that a Miami coach needs. I wish they'd go back to "The U" days.

And boy was that a heck of a game. Not the greatest year by any standards, but what a way to finish it for Penn State. It's great to see them just go to a bowl, but to win the bowl for the people who stayed with the program, it feels so much sweeter. They're a bunch of fighters, and they played their hearts out every game this year. I look forward to them being even better next year. WE ARE...

At least Miami did not lose the game by double digits, as they have in 9 of their last 11 losses.

With that loss, Al Golden is now 28-22 after four years. That is the same record which got Randy Shannon fired. Also, last season Miami started out 7-0.

That said, Al Golden took the Miami job BEFORE the Nevin Shapiro story broke and did win an ACC Divisional title in 2012, but the school decided not to play in Charlotte to avoid additional NCAA penalties to their self-imposed scholarship losses. Regardless of that, his teams struggle in the 2nd Half of games. Some of that is/was due to not having 85 scholarships, but some of that is still Strength and Conditioning. But that is also not really his fault as an athletic department, Miami does things on the cheap and really does not have as many boosters/donors as one would think (hence easily accepting Nevin).

The use of Duke Johnson today looked a bit puniative since he is leaving, according to his Mom, but in reality, both Dorsett and Coley cannot catch the ball and while fast, are late round picks. TE Clive Warford can catch everything, but he is so slow, he cannot stretch the field at 6'4" and at least 260. OC James Coley was not looking to use Kayaa when the season started, as Greg Olson's brother was to be the starter before he was kicked out and Jake Heaps was underwhelming.

Bottom line is that Miami coaches generally last only four years, ADs who are not Miami "lifers" stay even shorter as they see the school as a "stepping stone" location. The late Paul Dee was AD so long because he started with another admin role with the school. Golden has had three ADs in his tenure (Hocutt went to TX Tech; Eichorst went to Nebraska; and now Blake James). Plus, AD James is now at Miami for a THIRD time.

The bright side is that a new president will come in for next year. Hopefully he or she takes no ish, and fires Golden, then hires Butch Davis back. He's made it clear that he would come back to Miami if the job was open. That would surely revive the program right there.

Sure. Because by hiring a then 64 year-old man, who has a legacy of having John Blake on his UNC staff plus the UNC scandal is appropriate. I like Butch, but he is essentially a show-cause in waiting. If you go that old, hire someone who is a better recruit "closer"...college football's nicest man....63 year old Mack Brown.

Sorry, 'Griffinmarlins', you don't understand. You really like Miami Football, but you basically have only been alive since when Ken Dorsey was QB...you REALLY have a lot to learn.

While a new president will bring stability, there will be another AD within the next 30 months since Blake James will look to move up.

Again, regardless of who is hired, most likely they will not be as a good total fundraiser as Dr. Shalala.

Holiday Bowl with a great ending. Looks like Nebraksa won't be able to complete the comeback. The Huskers went for it on fourth and medium two separate times, both within field goal range, but unable to convert either time. Looks like Nebraska will lose by a field goal.

Final play of the game had Riley for Nebraska getting severely held on the Hail Mary play. Hate to see a game end with a penalty, but some penalties are so egregious they should be called. Not sure this is one of those plays, but that was some heavy, heavy holding/pass interference.

USC/Nebraska (or was it Wisconsin?) ended up being A LOT closer than I anticipated. Nebraska always seems to do well in bowl games these last few years. But USC just couldn't move the ball in the final quarter. Oh well, pretty good bowl day for me. Lots of excitement. Hopefully the rest go down to the wire as well.

I heard they were Big 12 refs, and I wouldn't deny it. They even took away a fat guy touchdown that shouldn'tve been taken away. Anyways, far better results than I would have expected with Barney Cotton father of 3 (but seems like 300) former and current huskers some who can't even stand up without falling on their henies lost to a ranked team by 3. Not too shabby.

But base on Mike Riley's comments in game and the fact the shoved so much husker stuff on him (seriously huskers hoodie, jacket, hat, shirt, presumably pants on, if he weren't the now current HC you'd think he was a fan) in ready for a new era.

i have unquantifiable corpses on my conscience

I was out during that reversal of the LT touchdown. From what it sounded like, it should have remained a touchdown. Not sure why it was overturned. Ineligible man down field? But it was a lateral?

Yeah you're right. I'm a super fan, but haven't really experienced the glory days. I'm just so sick of hearing of all these successful teams, but never getting to see one in my time watching college football. I want to see the Canes succeed, because it can be done. I'm just impatient y'know. I want to see a winning product because I love my team.
