Hire Dusty Baker and you can look forward to him leaving Kershaw in one batter too long and him giving up a grand slam to either buster posey or Matt Holliday in game 7 of the nlcs.

Also, he'll let a pitcher hit and then punch run for him when he miraculously gets a hit because he doesn't think.

Yeah, it's insane that they're even considering him. He's one of the worst in game managers I've ever seen. He looked so ridiculously overmatched in that 2012 NLDS it was almost sad. He blew a 2-0 lead with all three games at home with IMO easily the best team in the league that year because he has absolutely no idea how to manage a bullpen. He did it in 03 with the Cubs before that, And with the Giants just the year before that.

The Dodgers already struggle with the makeup of their pitching staff and how to transition from using starters to relievers, and they wanna consider Dusty freaking Baker for this job? Who are these idiots?

Dodgers and Don Mattingly "mutually part ways."

Yeah, he was totally their biggest problem.

As a Dodger fan, I'm not surprised by this. But the NLDS loss really wasn't his fault. The team just didn't get the hits when they needed them.

I do like that whoever wins the WS will be a team that's got a starving fan base and will be grateful for the title. Now that I've had a night to kind of sleep on the heartbreak, it does help that the Cubs have a bright future. Things are pointing up in a big way.

Yup. You fans of the lego-headed left fielder should be very proud. You played with house money and showed the Cards that this division is likely changing guards next year. Ain't no reason to hang a head in shame.

And now, ladies and gentlemen, Mr. Tom Petty.

"And then I remember to relax, and stop trying to hold on to it, and then it flows through me like rain and I can't feel anything but gratitude for every single moment of my stupid little life... You have no idea what I'm talking about, I'm sure. But don't worry... you will someday."

Who are these idiots?

One of the richest families in human history, I think.
And that's great, but they still kinda run the Dodgers like they hadn't ever actually watched a baseball game before they bought the team. I assume that people as financially savvy as the Gugenheim Group understand how to efficiently use their assets, but there have been quite a few examples of them basically taking large stacks of cash and essentially lighting them on fire.

Look at the Giants, for comparison. They're not a small market team by any means (3rd highest payroll, I think), but they've won three championships in the past five years for about a third of the price the Dodgers have paid for a couple division titles. That's crazy no matter how much you have to blow. And eventually it's gotta level out. That kind of money can mask just about any number of mistakes. But how long is that going to take and how bloated is their payroll going to get before that happens?

And it's so much stranger because it seems like they're doing everything form an organizational standpoint to bring in the right guys. They're progressive, know the game, and have had success elsewhere so it seems like they'll right the ship sooner rather than later. But then you get stories like they're considering Dusty Baker to manage this whole thing and start to wonder what exactly is going on there.

I'm actually starting to wonder how long it's gonna take them to realize that Major League Baseball isn't the Bundesliga. They may have been better off buying the Clippers or Lakers.

They paid nearly $100 million to guys who aren't even on the team this season. And correct me if I'm wrong, but weren't those two pretty heavily involved in the Matt Kemp trade? And I know they were involved in that absolutely crazy Matt Latos and Mike Morse pickup. Latos pitched, what, five games for them this year?

*Wood was the centerpiece of the Latos deal.

*Kemp had his average drop and he yielded an all-star catcher in return. Plus in Molly Knight's book Kemp was revealed to be a clubhouse cancer.

*If you have a multi-billion dollar TV deal you can eat salary.

I'm not sure where these Dusty rumors came from. The Dodgers' next manager is going to be Gabe Kapler. He's a young hotshot who's going to be onboard with all the fancystats Zaidi can bring him. The Dodgers' MO has clearly been to hang on to all their assets and fill out the roster with whatever they can get. If they strike out and get Latos'd, no big deal. Money means nothing to them. When the guys like Pederson and Seager can produce consistently, then you'll see Friedman's plan come to fruition.

I guess the Dodgers are doing it the Yankees way. Just keep throwing money at your roster until you win. You will eventually.

I kind of wonder what could have been, though. Had the Dodgers gotten a few well-placed hits in Game 5, it's entirely possible they'd have played the Cubs. And seeing how the Cubs turned out in the NLCS, maybe it would have been the Dodgers' year... Only to lose in the World Series of course.

Ah well. My team fell short but this has still been a great postseason and really fun to watch. And that's what's most important. And I'm really glad the Mets are giving their equally long-suffering fan base something to be happy for.

That's an awful high price to pay for Alex Wood (no matter his upside) and a catcher who had all of three hits in the month of September, all star or not.

I also wonder how long the TV deal is going to be enough to excuse bad deals. I mean, that deal can't stay abnormally high (in comparison to the rest of the league) forever. Other teams in other markets are going to catch up to that eventually.

Look, I dislike the Dodgers and voice that pretty regularly here. But despite that, I do want to see them as competitive as possible because I really do think it's good for the league when the Dodgers are as good as possible, and it really does spark so much into the rivalry that it makes it worth having to worry about them throughout the course of the year.

But the fact that they're paying more to guys in dead money than 5-10 teams (depending on the source) are paying for their entire roster is actually pretty alarming. That can't be sustainable, even for them.

Contracts will come off the books.

And Grandal was dealing with a shoulder injury the last few months and is having surgery this week. Still better than a clubhouse cancer in a crowded outfield.

I suppose. We'll see next season.

One question I do have though. Do the Dodgers plan to cut payroll fairly significantly over the next few years, or do they plan on operating relatively far above everyone else's heads as long as they can? If it's the first option and this is just a bit of an anomaly, then ok. They're lucky they can do that. If it's the second one, though? Well, they better find a way to quit falling short in the playoffs then.

They're planning on cutting payroll as the dead contracts elapse. The main strategy has been to spend quickly until the minor league system that Coletti and McCourt obliterated is brought back then to improve internally. Hence why Seager, Pederson, Urias, etc. weren't used as trade bait.

The Dodgers better hope that their minor league system is up to par, because I have a feeling that if the Feds approve Charter Cable's purchase of Time Warner Cable, Charter will move heaven and earth to get out of that TV mega-deal.

I agree that over the past few years this tradition has gotten way outta hand. Celebrating with champagne showers after winning the LDS is pretty ridiculous.
